It makes me cringe and also the word ''courting''

Any words that make you cringe?

OP posts:

Yanbu, frock is horrid, as are panties, almost as bad as purchase and beverage. Trousers are known as trossuks in our house, don't know why.

Tchootnika · 30/08/2011 22:24

'trossuks'? Are you confusing them with cassocks, depob - now there's a foul word.

(Must stop reading this thread - it's turning me into a masochist - or a cassockist.)

fit2drop · 30/08/2011 22:52

Reminds Tchoo that I like the word moist
MOIST MOIST MOIST !!! sticks tongue out then runs like fuckery Grin

mummylin2495 · 30/08/2011 23:15

i hate the words

sweat / sweaty
liar
pits

I think there are loads more but im too tired to think now.

WilsonFrickett · 30/08/2011 23:24

I like toot - as in 'a lot of old toot' (but that might be a LorSugarism) and 'marketing toots' - ironic word to describe female-type job where poster is pretty sure there's a man in the vicinity who is very pleased with himself for doing some engineering or similar.

CocktailQueen · 30/08/2011 23:38

Hate 'moist' - esp in conjunction with 'gusset'
Not keen on 'crouching'
Hate 'panties'
Hate 'dummy tit' -bleurgh
Hate 'serviettes' too!

Alisonjayjay · 30/08/2011 23:58

Hahaha, I love this post. Frock is indeed an awful word. Some other words which I hate - ghastly, gusset and gosh ( I've suddenly realised I seem to have an issue with words beginning with the letter g!)

KangaRue · 31/08/2011 00:18

Not so much a word as a made up term, but "chillax" makes me grit my teeth & shudder

thefirstMrsDeVere · 31/08/2011 08:52

My dad said 'toot' Wilson but I always thought it was 'tut' . I have seen it written 'toot' lots of times since so it must be the norf lardan accent. Smile

thefirstMrsDeVere · 31/08/2011 08:53

flaccid

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/08/2011 09:41

Remembered another one.

Matinee. Makes me embarrassed.

WilsonFrickett · 31/08/2011 14:30

Grin at DeVere

Shock at LadyClarice - but what about a matinee jacket???

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/08/2011 14:41

That's even worse because I'm not keen on the word 'jacket' either ... Grin

I've just booked tickets for Mike Leigh's play at the National Theatre. It is clearly very popular and all I could get were Wednesday-afternoon seats. At some point between now and the show night I am going to have to use the 'm' word and I am dreading it. I already thought my toes were going to curl up and drop off when I booked them and had to say to DP 'There are only matinee tickets left.'

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/08/2011 14:42

Cocktail, can you explain the reasons for not liking 'crouching'?

Reminds me actually, I don't like the word 'squat'/'squatting' very much.

Thumbwitch · 31/08/2011 14:52

I don't like the word tit. Or titty. Or teat.
Or nipple for that matter...

thefirstMrsDeVere · 31/08/2011 15:40

titty [bluegh]

It is a pervy word

Schnarkle · 31/08/2011 15:52

nutritious. Saying the word makes me shiver.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/08/2011 16:09

'titty'. Eeeew. Makes me think of a dirty old man.

WilsonFrickett · 31/08/2011 17:43

OMG Lady you are going to a Mike Leigh matinee????? You'll have to take your ear plugs. It will be full of frocks, gussets and do's. But hopefully no chuffs!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 01/09/2011 15:52

Wilson, you are right. I hadn't thought it through.

I'm not giving up my ticket to such a fabulous event though. actually I might be tempted to hawk it at a hugely inflated profit

CurrySpice · 01/09/2011 16:04

Belly and bum both make me squirm

Which is odd becuase I swear like a fucking trooper

People who say hubby or even worse, hubster, make me want to commit violence!

FellatioNelson · 01/09/2011 16:12

I don't like belly either. I was always taught that it was rather common and uncouth to say belly. I had to say tummy instead. Confused

Tchootnika · 01/09/2011 20:02

'titty' - OMFG, that's even creepier than 'panties'. It's sinister, actually.

CurrySpice · 01/09/2011 21:25

My DP calls them knockers and tbh I haven't had the heart to tell him that nobody has called them that in England since 1973 Hmm

FetchezLaVache · 04/09/2011 09:45

However vile the word "armpits" may be, it is infinitely preferable to "pits"- bad enough in any context, but actually distressing when used anatomically. But even that's better than "underarms". It's just bloody lucky I am rarely called upon to specify that area of my body.

Oh, and "alot". It's "a lot", FFS!! (See it on here with heart-sinking frequency- you know who you are, just stop it at once.)
