Can i just have a rant please? Guess what we did yesterday - we went to visit dh'S dad at the chapel of rest. Dh's birthday today - the first card he opened was from my sister. What was on the front? A fucking corpse. I kid you not. Some Edwardian bloked stretched out on the floor - the caption was something like "Jennifer didn't know what was worse, the fact that he was dead, or that he'd forgotten the corkscrew."

Words fucking fail me. It made him cry. I could fucking kill her

YANBU. Is she always crass about things or is this a one off?

Catsmamma · 21/08/2011 10:33

very crass!

SuePurblybilt · 21/08/2011 10:33

Oh dear. Any chance she posted it before she knew?

Mitmoo · 21/08/2011 10:33

Did she post it before your FIL died? Trying to find reasons to be nice here but struggling.

cherryburton · 21/08/2011 10:34

She is unbelievably self centred and awful but this has surprised even me. Am not blowing this out of proprtion, am I?

I know the card you mean, and have sent it to a friend...but in your circumstances, that is not appropriate.
is your sister prone to things like that?

hiltontribe · 21/08/2011 10:35

so sorry to hear of your loss. :(

Did she send the card after Dh's dad had passed away? if she did then YANBU.

Mitmoo · 21/08/2011 10:35

If she knew your FIL was deceased then no you are not being unreasonable.

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 21/08/2011 10:35

No not at all.

Could she have bought and sealed a while ago and forgotten?

AgentZigzag · 21/08/2011 10:35

I was going to say did she buy it before your DSs Dad died and didn't think before sending it?

But even that would be stretching reality until breaking point, you're right it's such a ridiculously insensitive thing to have done.

I can only suggest waiting to see what her excuse is though, because it's sad you think she will have done it on purpose as some kind of 'joke', is she prone to this kind of shite?

RebelFromTheWaistDown · 21/08/2011 10:35

It made me laugh.

cherryburton · 21/08/2011 10:35

Nope. He died on the 12th. She sent a condolence card. She posted the birthday card on the 16th. (I did think of this too, but no...)

OP posts:
BlowHole · 21/08/2011 10:36

Could she have written it and sealed it ages ago, then forgotten what the picture was?

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 21/08/2011 10:36

Are you going to call her?

AgentZigzag · 21/08/2011 10:37

X posts, if she's likely to have done it 'on purpose' then you're definately not being over sensitive.

takethisonehereforastart · 21/08/2011 10:37

I was just going to ask when it was posted.

Or is she a super organised type that would have bought and written it weeks ago and perhaps just didn't think about what was on the front of it now.

BlowHole · 21/08/2011 10:37

x-posted. That is inexcusable then. Is she normally so insensitive?

RebelFromTheWaistDown · 21/08/2011 10:37

I mean AT your sister's stupidity.
Sorry.

AgentZigzag · 21/08/2011 10:38

What was it about the situation that made you laugh Rebel? The DHs Dads death? Or the fact the DH was crying?

RebelFromTheWaistDown · 21/08/2011 10:39

X post zigzag

Katisha · 21/08/2011 10:39

What did DH say?

cherryburton · 21/08/2011 10:39

Rebel - I laughed too, in a sort of "ohmyfuckinggod" kind of way. DH crumpled. I could kill her. I don't have much to do with her (wonder why?) but even I am shocked. Dunno what to do. I could mention it to my mum and dad and they would defend her, because she can do no fucking wrong. Unlike me, apparently.
