... to think this couple are extracting the urine?

I work mainly part-time, DH works off-shore. Two DC, no family nearby to help out but we manage. Our eldest DC is due to start Primary School and will only be in until noon for several weeks. To accommodate this I have used the majority of my annual leave or ensured that DH is home. Another couple who live locally and whose eldest DC will be starting school at the same time are now dropping heavy hints that we should help them out by collecting and looking after their child (This would be from noon until @5pm/or 3.30pm until @5pm when going in for full-days).

There has been no direct request (yet) but lots of 'it'll all work itself out' and 'we're all in the same boat' type comments Hmm. The DW of the couple has also commented to me that they could 'drop off their DC in the mornings' at another neighbour's house - a neighbour that otherwise they do not associate with or even speak to but who is a friend of mine.

The other couple are both Primary School teachers and have been off for the Summer Holidays (47 days) ...... so .... AIBU to think that the week before school term resumes in NOT the time to start thinking about childcare, far less make assumptions that other people should take up the slack?

Valetude That 100 miles from a decent pub! and one that is not full of people that know everything about me, and me everything about them. Taxis thin on the ground, so there's always a stay sober and listen to drunken pishtalk driver required...usually me. Crap.

previously We are heading up again end September but as we are coming up for a wedding, sadly I cannot guarantee sunshine.

And I can only just about guarantee sun on the West coast of Scotland at the best of times. On the East, well you are on your own until I go back to Aberdeen which there are no plans for at the moment. Will keep you posted. Wink

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 30/08/2011 17:38

And we all learnt something too thanks PoL! I was at a play way down south from you in Edinburgh this weekend and when one character knocked on someone's door and the host said 'you'll have had your tea then' I was so excited! Thanks to you I knew exactly what it meant, which made it much funnierGrin.

CoffeeIsMyFriend I am hoping for a last gasp blast of sunrays...September can be lovely here. Have a wonderful time in the Granite City...but take your thermals just in case for those sneaky Nor' Easterly winds. Brrrrr Smile We are West btw...keep sending sunny thoughts.

WorkingItOutAsIGo I am a huge fan of the theory 'You learn something new every day'...hunted high and low for Lexilicious 's post, first mention of that delicious phrase 'You'll have had your tea then' I believe. It's such a classic Edinburgh (Trams anyone?) comment in my book, 'Weegie's' by dint of being born in the greatest city in the World are solicitious to the core...hence the free flowing wine!

Bless all your cotton socks, I'll be around long enough to prove my credentials I promise. A mahoosive thankyou to all who spared the time to listen, share, told me to 'grow a pair'...even those that doubted the veracity of my woes. You answered my plea, I am Balls, I am woman, I am MN AIBU through and through....see you in another thread sisters/brothers. Pol xXx.

oh well if you are West coast I can probably swing a bit of sunshine around the 25thish for a few days, at the very least it will be dry (ish)

PreviouslyonLost · 30/08/2011 20:25

CoffeeIsMyFriend Cheers...you'll be wanting a wee red wine in exchange for that promise of welly free weather? Grin

Brilliant thread from a fellow weegie Grin

ScarletOHaHa Loved the advice I received...it worked miracles on my 'urine-o-meter'. Thank you Smile

Doha Hope you're keeping that gem of a city in one piece, and leaving the Jolie-Pitts' to come and go in relative anonymity? Grin I MISS, MISS, MISS the banter...where else could you have so many random conversations with complete strangers and emerge laughing at the wisdom of their fantastic thought processes? It's a whole new ball game up here - and that's from a person who has 100% 'Teuchter' parents! I can only direct you to 'Overheard in Glasgow' on Feckbook...but bet you already knew that? Slainte Mhath Smile

PS I also have 100% Teuchter parents -- chan eil aon chanan gu leor Grin

Doha True...tho' sadly my Mother only taught me to swear in Gaelic Grin Can't prise her out of her lair in the West End to visit us very often but I recall her telling me about two old Cailleachs on the bus in Glasgow (late 1960's) having a right go at the very modern miss (Mum) in her very modern miniskirt...well, did my Mum not listen to every word and wait 'til her stop before turning and wishing them a very good day in Gaelic! (My Mum had huge Balls even then Grin ). Miss my city of birth, getitupye and all that when the going gets tough on here, thank you for the patter Doha much appreciated Wink.

amicissima...cheers for that. It was quite a nice visit actually. Drawing a line and not letting people cross it is a lesson well learned from MN. I'm still very grateful for all the help I received.

(and Mrs Fizz/door is still getting ODC dumped on her doorstep every morning)

Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

They're just softening you up for Christmas party babysitting.

PattySimcox · 14/12/2011 20:45

Xmas Grin Zachary

POL you did so well, perhaps you need to anonymously mail this link to Mrs Fizz

PreviouslyonLost · 15/12/2011 09:27

ZacharyQuack Oh noooooo, but you're probably right Xmas Grin Though they DID offer up Mrs UEN's mother as a babysitting service on NYE (The In-Laws are here for a visit)...'she LOVES children' said Mrs UEN! I don't think I would drag our DCs out on NYE and leave them with a stranger (to them) just so I could sit in the pub listening to Mr and Mrs UEN's dross. Thanks but no thanks.

PattySimcox Mrs Fizz/Door would know who I am from all the details in the thread, no anonymous about it...and I'm waiting for the day when it's BOTH of UEN's DC that are being dropped off, that'll bring her to her senses!

Merry Christmas Xmas Smile
