... to think this couple are extracting the urine?

I work mainly part-time, DH works off-shore. Two DC, no family nearby to help out but we manage. Our eldest DC is due to start Primary School and will only be in until noon for several weeks. To accommodate this I have used the majority of my annual leave or ensured that DH is home. Another couple who live locally and whose eldest DC will be starting school at the same time are now dropping heavy hints that we should help them out by collecting and looking after their child (This would be from noon until @5pm/or 3.30pm until @5pm when going in for full-days).

There has been no direct request (yet) but lots of 'it'll all work itself out' and 'we're all in the same boat' type comments Hmm. The DW of the couple has also commented to me that they could 'drop off their DC in the mornings' at another neighbour's house - a neighbour that otherwise they do not associate with or even speak to but who is a friend of mine.

The other couple are both Primary School teachers and have been off for the Summer Holidays (47 days) ...... so .... AIBU to think that the week before school term resumes in NOT the time to start thinking about childcare, far less make assumptions that other people should take up the slack?

Shriekable If I have learnt one thing in this thread, it is the beauty of 'No, is a complete sentence' At least you have the link of a familial obligation to your MIL, we didn't even have that with Mrs and Mrs Ming the Merciless! (Please start a new AIBU so we can help you!)

'They have probably chatted about it saying, oh don't worry, she'll do it and it will save us x amount not having to pay a childminder'. Oooooh, they obviously SO did and look where it got them.

And my Balls used to go from O to . when actually faced with this couple...NO more, it feels good Smile

Well done pol! Keep updating next week!

PreviouslyonLost · 27/08/2011 17:39

hairfullofsnakes Still love you madly...and look at my dot dot dots mastery under your tutelage! Now being accused (I think?) of Trollery on another post that I came across via a poster on here...but even in telling you that I may be flamed and cast down into the MN dungeons forever and ever Grin Will post link, once I figure out how to do it.

Whatever anyone thinks of this thread, I hope to the Church of High Fuckwickery, they can accept I had a problem and I now don't have this problem anymore...MNBallsrus.com.

If I keep posting ad infinitum on other posts I will be trusted as a MN regular?

As a wife, mum, daughter, daughter in law, sister-in-law, all round good neighbour, and registered Social Worker I have better things to with my time than come on here and lie! Hope I'm not coming across as defensive or any shite like that, you would tell me hairfullofsnakes wouldn't you?

People these days seem to get suspicious of fast moving threads that have a lot of detail and action, particularly if by new posters who seem to take to the board as if to the manor born.
Don't worry about it. Employ the balls!

Fabbychic In the end she stood her ground and isn't picking up OW's child from school. Made perfect sense to me, I don't understand what you don't understand

hairfullofsnakes · 27/08/2011 19:06

POL - you are one of my gave posters (along with the lovely lyingwitch and hectate queen of witches and the lovely ledkr) so of course I don't think you are anything but true - although you do love to be a bit flowery with the English language! Grin

You'll always find a few who shout troll but ignore em and give your balls a good feel and be proud!

Any more updates? They tried to come round?!

hairfullofsnakes · 27/08/2011 19:07

Fave not gave!

TheDailyWail · 27/08/2011 19:12

I wouldn't worry about it POL. I'm sure you'd rather not have experienced this but it's kept me entertained.

Grin

I'd be darned upset if you disappear into the ether after this; You're a keeper IMO.

hairfullofsnakes I was once described as a 'Motherly Elizabeth Bennet' in regard to my being a bit a bit flowery with the English language...major reader, but Jane? Austen not on my book list...update on that reference appreciated, I took it as a compliment should I have?! I love the English language for its descriptive power Smile.

If any poster on this thread feels they have been deceived or led up the garden path, I can only reassure them that not only are these weirdo's real but that I have treasured every piece of good advice and applied it to my family's benefit. Will have to MN far more regularly to prove myself to you all I think.

No further attempts at real evil neighbourly trolls coming to suck us dry...because of your help, and my new Balls!

Thank you (and if that makes me a trolly cunt so be it) Grin

DontGoCurly ooh, ooh, ooh, I LOVED the A-Team! and Airwolf (Jan Michael Vincent my dream lover at one point in life).

The ODC's anti-plan thwarting was created and given life by MN posters, it worked...I AM forever grateful for the practical help I received.

TheDailyWail Cheers for that link Smile My writing style is borne out of trying to get the main points across succinctly...see Austen retort above! I hope to prove my authenticity by ignoring DH and DCs totally and posting on MN constantly!

Fuck the doubters, I can't wait to prove you wrong Grin

FabbyChic To sum up...We have a pair of leeching me, me, me, neighbours (amongst a great bunch of share and share alike neighbours in a small rural location). They attempted to use my DH and I as unpaid minders for their DC1. I was upset as I was too overwrought close to a long-standing situation to stick up for myself. With a lot of help and laughter on this thread, I am no longer in that position. I grew some Balls and the problem is history. (If it's not I reserve the right to return to it Grin).

I showed my gratitude for the help and was accused of Trollery on another thread. I wish I had made it up...could have better spent my time worrying about something else Smile.

PreviouslyonLost · 27/08/2011 20:15

Totally fecked up my last post to DontGoCurly and TheDailyWail overwrought, moi?...probably.

KristinaM · 27/08/2011 20:17

so you are a power dressing, high heels and make up wearing social worker???? now i KNOW you are quite mad..........

Katisha · 27/08/2011 20:30

I want to know about the event tent...

PreviouslyonLost · 27/08/2011 20:42

KristinaM usually Birkenstocks and whatever the DCs haven't dripped breakfast on tbh...Power dressing only utilised for Children's Panels, Court, and entitled neighbours Grin

Katisha you are so much better than me at zipping across threads...taking me ages here! 'Event Tent' a doozy, and was other lovely neighbours that were seriously humped that time!

OP posts:
PreviouslyonLost · 27/08/2011 20:58

Now they're just being goddamn mean girls on other thread. But having learned life lessons here...I have the BALLS to bear it thankfullyGrin

OP posts:
hairfullofsnakes · 27/08/2011 21:07

Pol - ahem... Being flowery with language ain't good chuck! I use 'good' writing in my work (don't want to give too much away) and if you look at all the great writers they don't do flowery... Wink

But, in everyday life it is ok! Grin

Anyway - you are famous now I have referenced you in another thread! Have you seen it?! X

youarekidding · 27/08/2011 21:16

Eh I have 1 day, 1 day out, and it all goes mad here. Shock

This is the 2nd thread I've visited tonight where the T word has been hinted at.

I love this thread. Had me in hysterics for days. OK agreed POL writing style is interesting to say the least but it's made it even funnier.

vividgingerchilli · 27/08/2011 21:18

Did they help out with looking after your children in the summer holidays?
If not, then they are being very unreasonable and you can justifiably tell them to get lost politely decline if you are asked.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 27/08/2011 21:20

Don't worry about the other thread. Sometimes on here it seems as if you're only taken seriously if you've been posting since before the internet was invented, and can reference at least fifteen different in-jokes before breakfast.

fedupofnamechanging · 27/08/2011 21:20

Am back on line now POL. Am glad to hear they haven't been around today. Now they know you are not going to provide their free child care, perhaps the uninvited visits will tail off too. I hope so at any rate. Keep the doors locked for a while longer just in case.
