So she comes round and does the sweep and then takes her gloves off and goes into the kitchen to, I assume, put them in the bin.

She said "oh I cant see your bin so I'll just leave them here..."

Here, as I discovered after she left, was the top shelf/basket of my dishwasher that i was halfway through loading when she arrived. No, I am not joking, yes, she really did leave gloves that had been inside my vagina IN my dishwasher.

AIBU to make a complaint about her through PALS? Especially as this comes on the back of several other issues including her not returning urgent calls, not turning up for appointments and getting my notes wrong.

I have a friend who is a local HV and she says that this particular MW is v unpopular amongst them too and they want someone to make a complaint as otherwise nothing will change.

I think it was quite sensible really..considering all the germs were going to be washed away.

When I read the first few lines I thought you were going to say she left them on the work top!

Were they inside out?

I'm not sure if I would have been that shocked tbh. I mean, where should she have left them? I think I'd prefer dishwasher (which many people use as a steriliser because it get's so hot) than a food prep area?

OhBuggerandArse · 31/05/2011 23:23

Oh for goodness sake. What a spectacular over-reaction. Your vagina is not a health hazard! And the things in the dishwasher weren't even clean...

Hope the sweep works and you are cuddling your lovely baby very soon, that should take your mind off vaginal secretions in your dishwasher tray!

Chunkamatic · 31/05/2011 23:23

Could they have fallen off the counter and onto the dishwasher shelf? Seems a bit odd but I would think the other things you have criticised her for are more of a problem than strange housekeeping...

fearnelinen · 31/05/2011 23:23

Hear hear celadon. I'm not going to disagree with you - you're about to go into labour Grin

SockShitter · 31/05/2011 23:24

um not sure really. techinally worral is right. but still a bit grim really!

Really ? So how bad is your vagina that you would be worried about the gloves ?. At least it was 'too be washed' dishes.

LeChatRouge · 31/05/2011 23:25

Not sure about the feelings you have about her other behavior, only you can decide if it is worth reporting, but when I worked in hospital, I used to peel my gloves off so they became inside out if that makes sense, so no contamination possible.

bubblecoral · 31/05/2011 23:25

You want to make a formal complaint about a MW because she left some used gloves inside a machine that practically sterilises everything every time it's switched on?

That's just odd.

Just use a high temp setting on the diswasher if you are worried.

Your friend was being very unprofessional with what she said to you, and is way more worthy of a formal complaint than the MW.

fearnelinen · 31/05/2011 23:25

I am going to verrrry gently point out that your baby is about to come out of your vagina and you will very likely cuddle it immediately and maybe even want to kiss it - and that'll be before the hot rinse. Grin

GreenTeapot · 31/05/2011 23:25

If it weren't for your imminent childbirthing I'd give you a Biscuit for this.

YABU. And mental.

That's a good point too about them being inside out. It's almost impossible to remove those gloves and not leave them inside out.

QueeferSutherland · 31/05/2011 23:26

Any twinges?

TBH I think tiny a bit of (sorry) quim in with the denby is the least of your worries considering in a few hours you'll be awash with lochia & vernix.

Good luck though!

Maybe send a letter to PALs.

Bogeyface · 31/05/2011 23:27

You dont find it in the slightest bit disgusting?

She didnt actually know that it was being loaded as the stuff that was in there was clean (baby bottles hitherto unused, so looked clean!). And where they were the gloves couldnt have fallen in but would have to be put there.

Its not my "about to give birth" hormones at all, but the fact that I think it is utterly revolting and had the stuff been clean, I would have had to put it through another cycle.

Really, I am over reacting about that!?

Ok, but my HV thought it was vile too, so I do feel slightly vindicated, as according to her the MW should have taken them away with her, as thems the rules and she could have just said "oh, where is your bin?" and didnt, which has struck me as particularly odd!

TBH, the complaint isnt a complaint as such, more a "I am pissed off at having several appointments missed by her, no calls returned etc" the gloves/dishwasher thing just made me feel icky and was the tin lid on it I suppose!

It's odd I'll give you that but no, it's not disgusting to rest a pair of inside out gloves on the rack cos you can't find the bin.

The worktop would have been unhygenic but not a rack that's going to be repeatedly sterilised.

LordOfTheFlies · 31/05/2011 23:31

I am a HC professional (not a MW) but I do wear gloves and an apron. We have a duty to dispose of contaminated waste safely.I always carry small bags.
I'm not infallible so if I did something stupid I'd rather the patient said to me directly. Different if its dangerous practise in which case, yes complain( via the GP practise)
