To think that this large supermarket chain should have refunded my money!!!

Was in a large supermarket that shall remain unnnamed with my 3 year old DS.

He has fed up about being dragged around the shops and I had bribed promised him a can of coke which he was stood in the queue holding.

Unbeknownst to me he had been shaking the can while we were paying. Just before I left the checkout I opened it for him and lo and behold it went everywhere!! All over the floor and DS and on me too. Checkout lady just buzzed someone to clean the floor even though DS was in tears as he could no longer drink his drink. I didn't have time to go and get a replacement but AIBU to think the shop should have gone and brought him a replacement instead of basically putting us into a situation where he had to go and get another one and then pay for it?!

One can of coke is nothing to them, am tempted to write to head office explaining how treating customers in this shoddy way will lose them business.

don't be daft, your child shook the coke. He's three, you should have realised. Watch him more carefully next time. Even better, don't give him coke to drink.

bubblecoral · 01/05/2011 15:17

Are you serious?

neverthetwain · 01/05/2011 15:17

DH dropped a crate of beer in the carpark of a different supermarket chain once and they replacded it no problem! I jsut think they shoudl be keeping their customers happy not being miserly over little things like a single can of coke.

Yabvu I don't see why they should pay for your error/stupidity!

catsareevil · 01/05/2011 15:17

Shock that you think that this was the supermarkets responsiblity.

Groovee · 01/05/2011 15:18

You allowed your 3 year old to hold it, which like any normal 3 year old would then shake it. Maybe having to get a cleaner to clean up the area cost more than your can of coke!!!

Mahraih · 01/05/2011 15:18

So, they should buy you another can, because your DS rendered the first undrinkable? Not their fault - suspect checkout lady was more concerned with the big pool of coke on the floor and whether someone might slip in it, rather than giving you free goods.

YABU.

Nando95 · 01/05/2011 15:18

Yabu It wasnt there fault that the can of pop spilt everywhere- it inconvienianced them having to clean up the mess- Why should they replace the can when it wasnt there mistake!

timetocallitaday · 01/05/2011 15:20

Why on earth are you giving a 3 year old coke in the first place? And what planet are you from to think the supermarket should refund it? It wasn't their fault he had shaken it up.

MarioandLuigi · 01/05/2011 15:21
Hmm
neverthetwain · 01/05/2011 15:21

I'm not saying it was their fault. But regardless of fault they should recognise that I'm a customer and assist me when it is easy for them to do so, which it would have been.

Don't be a knob.

peeriebear · 01/05/2011 15:22

I dropped a glass jar of golden syrup in Asda after I'd paid for it. It was my fault and I didn't expect them to replace it! YABU. And for giving a 3yo a can of coke too.

shushpenfold · 01/05/2011 15:23

Never mind the replacement....you seriously give your 3 yr old coke??!! Do you want him to keep his teeth for more than 2 weeks?

LilQueenie · 01/05/2011 15:23

Im sure they recognise you as a customer...a pain in the ass one at that!

turnitup · 01/05/2011 15:24

YABU

TheVisitor · 01/05/2011 15:24

I've just had a lightbulb moment, but I shall sit and wait. Grin

neverthetwain · 01/05/2011 15:24

What has giving him coke got to do with anything? Yeah, I bet none of you lot have ever given your three year olds coke, right Hmm

What would a replacement cost them? Pence, nothing in the grand scheme of things, why shouldn't I have one?

Get. A. Life.

Alternatively, go and spend six months volunteering in countries where people actually have real problems and get some perspective.

catsareevil · 01/05/2011 15:25

If they had given you the free coke you could have come on here and said "AIBU to be annoyed that a supermarket gave a can of coke to my 3 year old" And everyone would have agreed with you Grin
