To think that this large supermarket chain should have refunded my money!!!

Was in a large supermarket that shall remain unnnamed with my 3 year old DS.

He has fed up about being dragged around the shops and I had bribed promised him a can of coke which he was stood in the queue holding.

Unbeknownst to me he had been shaking the can while we were paying. Just before I left the checkout I opened it for him and lo and behold it went everywhere!! All over the floor and DS and on me too. Checkout lady just buzzed someone to clean the floor even though DS was in tears as he could no longer drink his drink. I didn't have time to go and get a replacement but AIBU to think the shop should have gone and brought him a replacement instead of basically putting us into a situation where he had to go and get another one and then pay for it?!

One can of coke is nothing to them, am tempted to write to head office explaining how treating customers in this shoddy way will lose them business.

CommonerTrulyReigns · 01/05/2011 15:35

Anyone else want OP to name the supermarket, so that we can contact them to applaud their wisdom?

Grin
gabid · 01/05/2011 15:36

Are you joking, or are you having a bad day?

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 15:37

doley - apparently it does a good job on blood on roads/pavements as well; and is excellent for cleaning up old coins. Grin

bustersmummy · 01/05/2011 15:37

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 15:38

Grin Commoner

Doley I don't see why not! I have never been able to drink the stuff since watching him do just that. Needless to say my poor hard done by children have had many a lecture on why they WILL NOT DRINK COKE.

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 15:40

Also very good for loos! I buy the cheap cheap shit cola and pour a litre down each one, leave overnight and hey ho sparkly loos!

travellingwilbury · 01/05/2011 15:41

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 15:42

T'weren't me either miss, honest, no it was all some other person wot shall remain nameless who started the game, honest!

nannynick · 01/05/2011 15:43

The supermarket were nice, they didn't bill you for cleaning up the mess.

Sorry, I don't feel they should refund in that situation and I don't think it was wise of you to let your DS hold a can of coke, as it was bound to get a bit shaken. Why not put it in the basket/trolley and give once out of the store?

doley · 01/05/2011 15:43

Thanks for the heads up with the things it can clean ...DH has been farting about with washing up liquid and newspapers ...

As I am in the US right now ...I can summon up a large coke at the drop of a hat !

TheVisitor · 01/05/2011 15:45

Whereyouleft it - someone's playing Mumsnet bingo, and were waiting for the phrase 'sense of entitlement'. Grin

DontGoCurly · 01/05/2011 15:45

I'm still waiting for the punchline....Confused

WhereYouLeftIt · 01/05/2011 15:47

Thanks TheVisitor - I shall read other threads with an eye on that Grin

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 15:48

I've always wanted to try dropping a tooth in coke to see if it's dissolved the next day...

You should have stamped you feet and demanded that the large supermarket chain give your son a whole 2 litre bottle of Coke, some fruit shoots, some sugar in a pot petit filous and a whole host of Haribo Tangfastics in compensation.

Goblinchild · 01/05/2011 15:52

thumbwitch, it's one of our Y3 science experiments. Drop a milk tooth into a substance and record what happens. They dissolve in vinegar much faster than coke.

LadyKaraStarbuckofThrace · 01/05/2011 15:52

Oh I think you will find most people don't give coke to 3yos. Because it is spetacularly bad for them on so many levels Hmm

FabbyChic · 01/05/2011 15:53
