To think that this large supermarket chain should have refunded my money!!!

Was in a large supermarket that shall remain unnnamed with my 3 year old DS.

He has fed up about being dragged around the shops and I had bribed promised him a can of coke which he was stood in the queue holding.

Unbeknownst to me he had been shaking the can while we were paying. Just before I left the checkout I opened it for him and lo and behold it went everywhere!! All over the floor and DS and on me too. Checkout lady just buzzed someone to clean the floor even though DS was in tears as he could no longer drink his drink. I didn't have time to go and get a replacement but AIBU to think the shop should have gone and brought him a replacement instead of basically putting us into a situation where he had to go and get another one and then pay for it?!

One can of coke is nothing to them, am tempted to write to head office explaining how treating customers in this shoddy way will lose them business.

My dd wont eat the peach little stars so I buy petits filous, she doesn't really like milk either so I see them as a good source of calcium, I don't think you can really compare fromage frais to cola!

YABU. Actually YAB Totally U.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 01/05/2011 20:19

coke
diet coke

HeadfirstForHalos · 01/05/2011 20:20

It would be nice if they did, but yabu for expecting it.

I took the dcs to macdonalds when I had 3 aged under 3, (that's as sinful as your ds's can of cokeGrin ) I was totally flustered bringing food from the counter and my drink tipped and fell all over the floor. I was totally mortified, but less than a minute later the manager came over with a replacement and a big smile (didn't even have to ask what drink i had!), and then the cleaning lady who had mopped up came over and ooh-ed and aah-ed at the dc.

It is very good business sense in the long run!

Not really up to the supermarket to replace it, sorry. If it was an error by a staff member, of course they should.

For drink related accidents I have to recommend the Coop. I bought a bottle of wine and it slipped out of my hand and it smashed just as I was leaving the shop. They cleaned it up and replaced my bottle free of charge (even though I said I would pay and apologised profusely).

This was exceptional customer service - however I didn't ask or expect this kindness. I do have a soft spot for Coop now.

OP - as discussed during this thread YABU - one to give your child Coke (my DD is 9 and is allowed it very occasionally and never when she was 3) and two to expect them to replace it.

Jaspants · 01/05/2011 20:29

OP gone AWOL then - no surprise there

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 20:37

OP's gone AWOL as it was a joke/game......

Jaspants · 01/05/2011 20:42

Ah ok, thanks for explaining boosmummie [thick emoticon] [cblush]

icooksocks · 01/05/2011 20:42

4.6g of added sugar per 50g pot of petit filous. Check it out here

15.9g of sugar per 150ml of Coke check it out here

I don't think thats like for like but just an idea of what they contain. Petit filous is not a good regular healthy snack-no matter what they might like you to believe.

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 20:45

Jaspants my dear, I also donned my thick hat for a moment. Had a feeling, but posted anyway. However I did enlighten someone to the rather handy trick of using coke to remove oil (of any sort) from the drive/steps/terracotta. That and the fact that it's marvellous for loo cleaning!!!

WereOffToSeeTheWizard · 01/05/2011 20:46

thanks gillybean

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 01/05/2011 20:47

Haven't read all the posts but the first reaction I had was get a grip, firstly your 3 yo shouldn't have coke and secondly they shouldn't be able to shake it around to make a mess.

if you're a troll - must try harder,

If you're not a troll - must try harder.

firstsupermum · 01/05/2011 20:48

so which type of yogourth do you give to your children? just for advice.
thank you icooksocks

icooksocks · 01/05/2011 20:53

The recommended is to give them natural yogurt flavoured with fruit puree. I haven't got the time for that, so in general I steer clear of yogurts. My kids are all fanatical cheese eaters (just like me) so they get their calcium from that and milk.
Sorry I couldnt be more helpful.

boosmummie · 01/05/2011 20:53

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend (but I wish he was mine...) to see how many posts it took to get 'or is it your sense of entitlement' or words along those line. If you read both threads it was quite amusing.

WereOffToSeeTheWizard · 01/05/2011 20:53

Just looked at Muller little stars and it has 5.8 g of sugar per pot so not much better.
Can't find how much in Yeo Valley.

RandyRussian · 01/05/2011 20:54

I was once really lucky. Went to pack a 4 pint poly of milk after it had been scanned but not paid for and dropped it. Milk everywhere.

Nice checkout lady told me to go and get a replacement while she paged someone to clear it up. Only charged me for one. Was Lidl.

firstsupermum · 01/05/2011 20:55

thank you icooksocks, i think i have to check more about that, as my DS 2 likes his yogurt.
