To think that this large supermarket chain should have refunded my money!!!

Was in a large supermarket that shall remain unnnamed with my 3 year old DS.

He has fed up about being dragged around the shops and I had bribed promised him a can of coke which he was stood in the queue holding.

Unbeknownst to me he had been shaking the can while we were paying. Just before I left the checkout I opened it for him and lo and behold it went everywhere!! All over the floor and DS and on me too. Checkout lady just buzzed someone to clean the floor even though DS was in tears as he could no longer drink his drink. I didn't have time to go and get a replacement but AIBU to think the shop should have gone and brought him a replacement instead of basically putting us into a situation where he had to go and get another one and then pay for it?!

One can of coke is nothing to them, am tempted to write to head office explaining how treating customers in this shoddy way will lose them business.

It's also very good for cleaning food that's been burned on pans.

doley · 01/05/2011 15:57

Well I have never been so delighted with a wind up post Grin

The olive oil seems to be dispersing as I type ...

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 15:58

Oh really, Goblinchild? Well that makes sense of course but I can't see anyone drinking a neat glassful of vinegar, so from the point of view of teeth damage, I guess the coke is still going to win. But I know phosphoric and carbonic acids are relatively weak, so it would take a while.

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 16:00

doley, especially for you Smile

gabid · 01/05/2011 16:00

I have given Coke to my 2yo on occasion to share with big brother (6) - rare occasion, but 2yo would would have a tantrum is she didn't get any.

But I wouldn't let her hold it and then open it straight afterwards Grin we all know what will happen.

Southcoastsarah · 01/05/2011 16:04

yeah, do you know what, i drank half a bottle of vodka while doing my shopping last week, got to the checkout and they wouldnt refund me cos i really fancied the bigger bottle

cheek or what! wont be shopping there again i can tell you

hic!

HerHissyness · 01/05/2011 16:05

gabid: WHY? Not even at 6 is it right! Tantrums are to be ignored.

doley · 01/05/2011 16:07

Thank you thumbwitch ~so many other things to try .

My 12 yr old will love that site .

Last summer, his favourite pastime was smashing things up with a golf club and posting it on youtube Shock

Finally, the only thing that stopped him(while smashing a computer monitor) was when the end flew off and nearly took his eye with it :(

Totally off topic ...but coke seems to much safer when you just play with it Grin

gabid · 01/05/2011 16:12

What is so bad about a bit of coke/fizzy drink as a treat now and then? In our house we drink water or milk, but I don't see harm in the occasional coke.

And I think OP is saying the coke was a treat.

Emmanana · 01/05/2011 16:12

Thank you thevisitor just told DH about the thread, and read him your comment. Don't be a knob!
He's been rolling on the floor laughing for 10 minutes Grin

gabid · 01/05/2011 16:13

southcoastsarah - ha Grin

ChaoticAngelQueenofAnarchy · 01/05/2011 16:16

This can't be real Hmm

Emmanana · 01/05/2011 16:18

OP - if you're going for compensation, then don't hold back. To get over the trauma you need at least food/toys/games for a party of 30 pre-schoolers, a complete summer wardrobe for yourself, a hot-tub, and a couple of cases of champagne. Don't be shy Smile

SauvignonBlanche · 01/05/2011 16:18

southcoastsarah that's bad - name and shame!

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 01/05/2011 16:25

this must be MN bingo??

For the record, I have a 4yo who has never had coke. and I know lots of people with DCs around the same age and I'd be willing to bet none of those have ever had it either.

But then I think this is a trick thread :o

MilkNoSugarPlease · 01/05/2011 16:26

lordy lord! this weather doesn't half bring out the odd ones!

gabid · 01/05/2011 16:29

Now, mine (6 and 2) have never had McDonalds or Burger King meals, so there!

icooksocks · 01/05/2011 16:37

Oh god, all mine had had at least one macdonalds by the time they were 10 months old Shock

gabid · 01/05/2011 16:39

Well, we don't really eat there, that's why.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 16:40

I've never drunk coke.

Do I win a prize?

icooksocks · 01/05/2011 16:41

We don't either, we do however travel alot and have had to stop for nosh.
(Disclaimer-we don't ALWAYS stop at mac d's, only occasionaly)

gabid · 01/05/2011 16:43

Anyone else want to play?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/05/2011 16:43

I really fancy a nice ice cold glass of coke now...

gillybean2 · 01/05/2011 16:43

Ds is 12 (that's years not months) and has only had coke once (as school while making 'cocktails' when he was 11). He wasn't impressed with it. I can't stand the stuff either.
I have offered him some lemonade a couple of times now, but he doesn't like that either.

knittedbreast · 01/05/2011 16:44

i can assure you i have never give my 2 or 5 year old coke. to give it to a 3 year old is very silly.

yabvu for giving coke and expecting the supermarket to supply you with another one when your child dropped it
