Aarghhh - all over the news and papers. No I am not excited that two over priviledged toffs are getting married. Don't really care and can't understand people who do really .

What does this mean for us - the people of Britain? Errr not much really.

The wedding will be escapism for some, just like watching a soap opera.

I will be watching. For those of you that won't and hate it then don't worry, it'll soon be over. Only another day to go!

They're not complete strangers to all of us though. They belong to a very social bunch of people, mix with other people from all sorts of backgrounds and pop up in parts of the country not everyone would think of spending much time in. They are far more approachable than many. And believe me Ninah, feudalism works in both directions.

In addition, I suspect a lot of people who have lost their own families gain a lot of comfort out of having the Royal Family as Heads of State.

I don't watch any soaps so wouldn't have the least interest in a soap wedding. I realise that I don't 'know' the royal couple but I at least know what they look like and a bit about them. Give me a quiz on a soap character and I couldn't tell you their real name, character name or pick them out of a photo parade or tell you the slightest thing about them.
