AIBU?

To ask for help QUICK?!

We all know the score, quickest route to the collective knowledge of planet Mumsnet is AIBU.

So I just spent 20 minutes up the Lilac tree in my garden coaxing a dear little budgie down.

Its now in a cardboard box next to my bed with some wild bird seed and some water.

It has a small wound on its wing Sad
What to do?

I cant really get it to an emergency vet atm.

It it a case of hoping its ok till morning and then getting it looked at? s/he is fairly perky and pretty tame. s/he let me hold it and only bit me a couple of times.

Its got a blue thing at the top of its beak - does that mean boy or girl?

Is there such a thing as wound powder for a budgie? Can I get something from the late chemist?

if said budgie has already said his first words after only being with you for one day you obviously have an affinity for teaching birds.I would get him signed up with MENSA right away Grin

If he's talking already you need to ask for advice on the G&T thread you don't want to be stunting his development...perhaps there's a support group available, ask the Vet?

Aw bless, MrsDeVere, "Mummy", indeed. Grin

Admit it, you're thinking of all the things you're going to buy for him, aren't you? He does sound incredibly gifted, eating already.

:) Glad he's OK. I'm going with £43 from the vets, plus another £43 on stuff at the pet shop. Who's an expensive boy?

He didnot say "mummy" - it was just wind!

Report
Megatron · 20/04/2011 09:32

He could very well have said mummy, my DS said it when her was 3 minutes old and it was most definitely not wind.

I think this is my favourite ever thread, I can't wait to hear how the little fella is.

Vet said he was fine. The injury has healed over and he said it was about 4-5 days old (injury, not the budgie).

So looks like poor little man has been lost in the wilderness of outer East London for almost a week Shock

He is obviously a particularly resiliant bird.

The vet didnt charge me Grin He knows a special budgie when he sees one. Saw him just for the honour .

Baulked at the £60 cages on offer at Pets at Home. Currently looking for a second hand one.

I do believe its important to teach them that not everyone is well off dont you? I think a second hand cage is a valuable lesson.

He is eating again! So clever.

So I need a name. Should I start a thread in names.

What goes with Atticus and Hero? I dont want it to be too popular, a little unusual but no dodgy spellings.

I dont want one of those names that you shout in the park and like a hundred budgies look up.

Really glad he's okay :)

I love your vet, how fab are they not charging you when they can see you doing a good deed Grin -

do you have a local greencycle, freegle, or freecycle?? if so it might be worth posting a wanted ad for a cage on there, you'll likely get a freeby

& I'm still for calling him Sid - lol

Gordon is a good name for a budgie. Glad he's healing well, he sounds awfully clever. :)

Yay! Yellow is my favourite colour. /he must have good taste. Very pleased I was wrong about the vets bill.

Have you thought about something strong and daring, like Titus, Zorro or Braveheart?

You are hilarious x

You could call him Stinky's Mate - Stinky for short :)

I know it's not what you want to hear - but you really do have to try and find his real Mummy & Daddy who will be heartbroken right now...

Budgies are called Smiley. Then you can be Smiley's People.

Surely Finch would go best with Atticus? Though that might give him an identity crisis.

How about Jiminy Billy-Bob?

If you'd like said budgie to talk - it's best to think of a simple name like billy etc.

Our budgie used to bark - he learnt it form the dog Grin

My Auntie hasd a budgie that you could hold an actual conversation wiith, and it spoke in a broad Norfolk accent, lol.

If you look above his nostrils (blue bit ) on his head does he have 'stripes' all the way down to his nostrils- the nearer the stripes are to his nostrils the younger he is.

Glad he's found a nice safe home - they usually get killed quickly by wild birds when they get outside

I suggest you start all manner of stimulating activities immediately. We don't want his obvious genius to go to waste!

I know Ive got to try and find his mummy. I am going to contact budgie services or whatever they are called and local vets.

I had to get him a cage cos he cant stay in the cat box forever. Vet did say he had been injured for a while so he could be from anywhere.

I am worried about him. He looks depressed. He wants a proper house so he can sit on a proper perch. We just had a cuddle though.

I cant see any stripes Shock.

I am going to put a pic on my profile.
