We all know the score, quickest route to the collective knowledge of planet Mumsnet is AIBU.

So I just spent 20 minutes up the Lilac tree in my garden coaxing a dear little budgie down.

Its now in a cardboard box next to my bed with some wild bird seed and some water.

It has a small wound on its wing Sad
What to do?

I cant really get it to an emergency vet atm.

It it a case of hoping its ok till morning and then getting it looked at? s/he is fairly perky and pretty tame. s/he let me hold it and only bit me a couple of times.

Its got a blue thing at the top of its beak - does that mean boy or girl?

Is there such a thing as wound powder for a budgie? Can I get something from the late chemist?

Never trust birds, especially pretty ones. Harlots

Vallhala · 19/04/2011 23:11

Thanks Lying. I must admit that the RSPCA are top of my shit-list when it comes to rescue organisations. They have lost sight of their original mission statement, that's for sure.

Independent rescue's overall opinion of them is very low. The general view of the DT is a lot better but they are said to 'cherry pick' - it's considered that they can boast that they don't generally PTS because they won't touch the harder to home dogs in the first place, leaving them to independent rescue. How true that is, I don't know, but it's the widely held opinion.

Drop kick it.

CareyFakes · 19/04/2011 23:13

Throw it as high as you can in the sky in order to grab that winning prize of being the biggest bastard you know :o

gordyslovesheep · 19/04/2011 23:15

He loves you and thinks of you as his Mama now Mrs.

You can't betray him now. You can't turn him out. Your own little budgie-boy.

You've got to nurse him back to full health and keep him.

You know it. We know it.

Fish are friends NOT food Careyfakes - Budgies on the other hand - fair game!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/04/2011 23:21

Vallhala... That's interesting. I liked them because I asked them, at the start, not to waste money writing to me EVER. I said that the DD would continue only as long as they respected my wishes, and they did. I had previously supported Blue Cross and RSPCA but wanted to burn BC's mailing list as I had so much junk mail from them. I stopped supporting RSPCA as I reported an injured cat and they point blank refused to do anything.

The local councils here tend to send rescues in to the vet for check-ups and then they go to kennels for 7 days. Some get rehomed, some not so lucky.

I have a soft spot for German Shepherds, Greyhounds, Whippets and Jack Russells as this is what our rescue dogs have been various mixtures of. Our last, JR/Whippet cross I found in a skip when I was at a council tip.

I'm supporting a couple of small, independant rescue centres also but I feel like it's a drop in the ocean.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 19/04/2011 23:21

Thats better.

What if he dies?

I dont think I am going to get any sleep.
They are such a worry arnt they?
No one tells you what its really like.. I mean, its not like they come with a manual.

I'd take a wager on that bet!! I'm with fairycakes, lob it out the window to see how bad it's wing injury really is. It's probably faking for a free meal and bed for the night anyway.

gordyslovesheep · 19/04/2011 23:23

fucking freeloading budgie bastard

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/04/2011 23:24

Posted too soon....

Staffies are a huge problem here... such lovely dogs but I've heard that they're PTS immediately as deemed to be 'problematic'. My Mum had a Staffie cross, so gentle and intelligent. They're great in a family.

custardismyhamster · 19/04/2011 23:24

Hope tweety bird is ok in the morning, lucky thing ending up in YOUR tree (grin) where he's found a friend

custardismyhamster · 19/04/2011 23:24

Grin even!

CareyFakes · 19/04/2011 23:25

Fuck that Budgie and it's agenda.

hardhatdonned · 19/04/2011 23:25

Personally i'd adopt it as a friend for the cat :o

HairyBeaver · 19/04/2011 23:27

I'd sleep with one eye open tonight OP. It's probably waiting till your asleep to do you over. Don't say I didn't warn you.
