Just wondering really, how long have you had your mumsnet name?
How did you choose it?
Do you get upset or angry if someone else has a similar name to yours or posters sometimes mistake you for another poster.

Do you feel that you "own" your name and no one should have one that sounds the same.
Do you blush if your name gets googled? Grin

Also are some names more stand out then others? And what happens when a few posters have the same type of name, Eg

Mummyone mommy1 sort of thing

Erm... why are you being unreasonable? What is it that you are being unreasonable about?

Needanewname · 05/03/2011 19:56

I've had this name for a couple of years now, my previous nanme sounded a bit twee and I liked the one before that but kept bumping into another member with a name that was shortened to mine and I got fed up of it (I was a bit annoyed but it really wasn;t worth it, lifes too short and I;m niot that known on here really).

Just haven;t got round to thinking of a better name snce really

YellowDinosaur · 05/03/2011 19:56

I have had mine for about a week. I have been on here for about 4 years previously, always with the same name apart from when I wanted to post the odd personal thing. My old name (and profile) was very public and I decided I didn't necessarily want to be easily identifiable anymore.

Quite like this name (and funny back story) but not sure I feel like it is me so this might not be the final change...

hidenseek · 05/03/2011 20:00

I've changed to this name quite recently. No huge reason, just fancied a bit of a change. That said, I was probably quite identifiable by things I had said before, so have decided to retreat to this new moniker for a while. :)

StealthPolarBear · 05/03/2011 20:01

I've had mine since early 2007 (I used to be Katy44)
I picked it after running into the kitchen to try to get chocolate out of the frisge without being picked up byu the alarm sensors wearing a huge white fluffy dressing gown at 9m pregnant.
There are a few of us bears, and recently strandedpolarbear has joined who has a very similar name and the same initials - I don't mind, it's entertaining. TBH I haven;t seen her around much.

Yes, some names stand out more than others - I like puns / plays on words, like valiumsingleton, and ones that I relate to, like mummydoit and getdownyouwillfall.

RevoltingPeasant · 05/03/2011 20:02

RevoltingPeasant - well, if you knew me IRL you wouldn't have to ask Grin

As for JohnHancock, good name. I am US-bred, and once I asked an English colleague to 'put his John Hancock' on something I needed him to sign.

He tried very hard not to look at his fly and said, 'Sorry....?'

Blush
RunAwayWife · 05/03/2011 20:02

This is my second mumsnet name, and Blush my mum suggested this one!!

It gets shortened to Wifey, or RAW I don't think there are any other runaways at the moment but I would not mind

squeakytoy · 05/03/2011 20:04

I was completely stumped for a name, and the dog was making a lot of noise with a rubber lamb chop... hence the name! Grin

blinks · 05/03/2011 20:04

good point belle.

could be unreasonable to discuss names when your first name is all in lower case, compared to your surname.

i notice such things .

backwardpossom · 05/03/2011 20:04

Nobody can spell my name right. Apart from one or two posters.

I usually get called backwardpossum.

ConstanceFelicity · 05/03/2011 20:05

Mine is a play on Constant Velcity. Physics nerd!

Namechange all the time to avoid detection, and then out myself every single time! :o

onlion · 05/03/2011 20:05

What is a possom then?

onlion · 05/03/2011 20:06

I have had about 20 names.

I like change.

SecretNutellaFix · 05/03/2011 20:06

There is someone else with a nutella name that I have seen. I like to think though, that people will know it's not me, iyswim.

I'm usually shortened to Nutella, or SNF, or Nutty by my nearest and dearest pals on here.

GollyHolightly · 05/03/2011 20:08

I've had this name for about seven hours Grin (but have been here under different guises for much much longer than that).

In the past when someone has popped up with a similar name, I will change mine, so far I haven't got particularly attached to any of my names and I want to stay anon.

doutzen · 05/03/2011 20:08

About 20 minutes
Before this my last was for about 2 months

notnowbernard · 05/03/2011 20:09

I've just spotted another Bernard! 1st I've seen since being here (nearly 4 yrs)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/03/2011 20:10

I frighten people with my tights

FoxyRevenger · 05/03/2011 20:11

I've never namechanged - I like this one too much, it is meaningful to me, although it's daft.

There are a few others on here with 'Foxy' in their name, but it doesn't bother me, apart from doing a double take when I think I have posted and then suffered a bout of amnesia....Wink

RunAwayWife · 05/03/2011 20:12

Waves madly at Nutty

chipmonkey · 05/03/2011 20:12

I have had this one for 6 years. I have tried namechanging but hated it when people I "knew" didn't recognise me.

backwardpossom · 05/03/2011 20:14

Don't think it's anything, onlion. It's not a possum though.

Teaandcakeplease · 05/03/2011 20:15

Couple of years I think? There is someone with a similar name to me, but I've only come across her once.

Can't really answer the other questions as I generally stick to threads I'm known on nowadays as I cannot keep up with the speed everything else moves at now with my 2 toddlers chasing rings round me in the day Grin

I do not feel I own my name per se though. But it is me to a tee Grin

thrifty · 05/03/2011 20:16

this was my credit crunch name, i kinda like it now.... its been a long recession

SecretNutellaFix · 05/03/2011 20:18
