DP has got it on - every so often I look up at Mel Gibson's vile face and blowdry and hurl insults at the screen.

Me: it's SHITE. I bet all the Scots in the world think it's SHITE as well

IS IT ON? WHAT CHANNEL?

Chil1234 · 11/02/2011 21:49

YABU.... Titanic is the worst one, surely? Oh yes Leonardo Di Caprio's character really could spend half an hour wading about in North Atlantic temperature water and still have the strength and dexterity to tackle a padlock.... v realistic Hmm

GreenEyesandHam · 11/02/2011 21:49

I have a certain fondness for it, because it makes my husband CRY LIKE A LITTLE GIRL

Yes, really!

How could I not like that? Sheer entertainment

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 11/02/2011 21:51

Braveheart is ok. I watched Shutter Island today which I thought was rubbish. I switched it off near the end as I needed to do the school run, and couldn't even be bothered to finish watching it when I returned. That's two hours of my life I'll never get back.

FoundWanting · 11/02/2011 21:51

I see your Braveheart...

... and raise you Pearl Harbour.

hockeyforjockeys · 11/02/2011 21:52

Oh how nice it would be if Scots did hate it. It may of changed now, and I am sure there are many intelligent Scots on here who loathe it. However I lived in Scotland as a teenager when it came out and everybody seemed to love it. Sod the raging historical innacuracies and awful accents, it was all lets paint our faces blue and roar hatred at the English (great when you're 13, English and massively insecure). In fact I seem to remember there was a statue of 'William Wallace' erected at the Wallace Monument in Stirling soon after that bore more than a passing resemblance to Mr Gibson.

MavisGrind · 11/02/2011 21:53

Have you ever been to Stirling? The William Wallace statue at the bottom of the monument is Mel Gibson. Bet they're really pleased about that now.

The film is historically shite inaccurate but I suppose in some lights it looks purdy.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 11/02/2011 21:53

"vile face and blowdry" hahaha!

Also, Dances with Wolves, and all of the Lord of the Rings.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/02/2011 21:53

Oh yes I totally agree - Titanic wins. At least you can laugh at it though ('I won't let you go Jack' whilst she wrenches off his frozen hands with a thud and drops him into the atlantic)

And Armageddon comes a close second. Apparently when that was premired in Cannes everyone laiughed at the bit where Liv Tyler sobbingly said goodbye to Bruce Willis. Apparently Bruce Willis stalked off in a huff Grin

Mavis - funny that we instantly thought of it at the same time, although I seem to remember reading about a year ago that it had been removed.

Oh I LOVE Dances with Wolves, Alan Rickman is brilliant in it.

MavisGrind · 11/02/2011 21:56

I quite like Armageddon (when pissed of course). At least Armageddon isn't pretending to be The History Of Scotland. It's just buff Americans spouting shite. (actually, not that disimilar to Braveheart)

Mists · 11/02/2011 21:57

"I won't let you go Jack' whilst she wrenches off his frozen hands with a thud and drops him into the Atlantic)"

Grin

I like the bit where she plunges over the side of the ship and he catches her seemingly one-handed the puny little shit. As if!

cornsilk · 11/02/2011 21:58

Is Alan Rickman in dancing with wolves?

MavisGrind · 11/02/2011 21:58

Ahh, has it been removed? Used to give me many hours of pleasure (as a English person living in Scotland) that the Scottish tourist board had thought that this was a good idea!

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/02/2011 21:59

I like it when evil Billy Zane races round the ship trying to shoot Jack and Rose.

I mean - the fucking ship is sinking, isn't that ENOUGH action for you Hollywood types? Nah, let's have a gun fight as well.

I always chortle at when she chops the handcuffs off with an axe as well.

Lol Mists, I know, thought the same myself, what a little nerdy boy!!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/02/2011 21:59

lol at myself - no sorry, I didn't mean Dances with Wolves, I meant Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Blush

Is this a good time to raise the spectre that is Cold Mountain?

Hated it. could just be me

cornsilk · 11/02/2011 22:00
Grin
dobiegirl · 11/02/2011 22:00

Billy Zane (back then in 1998) could have shot me any day of the week Confused

hockeyforjockeys · 11/02/2011 22:00

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_Monument
I particularly like the fact that they tried to flog it to Donald Trump, but he wasn't having any of it (probably had far too much taste)

Maud2011 · 11/02/2011 22:02

YANBU Braveheart and Titanic - both of them indeed wankingly awful
