DP has got it on - every so often I look up at Mel Gibson's vile face and blowdry and hurl insults at the screen.

DP: shurrup getorf
Me: it's SHITE. I bet all the Scots in the world think it's SHITE as well

I really like The Holiday though (not generally a lightweight chic flick fan) not a fan of any of the actors in it though loved Lee Van Cleef.

Expat - everyone knows Terminator blows Terminator 2 pout of the water! all Terminator 2 had a huge budget and great special effects. Arnie being the good guy made me want to barf 0 especially at the end when it gave the thumbs up as he was being lowered into the molten metal - BARF! The kid (Edward Furlong) was obnoxious as well.

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 12:47

The Holiday = steaming pile of wank.

CaveMum · 13/02/2011 13:34

I shall see your "Braveheart" and raise you a "Matrix Reloaded" and throw in "Matrix Revolutions" for good measure.
Shame really as the first one wasn't bad.

On the Titanic front, whilst the story around Rose/Jack is pretty pants, the film is historically accurate 90% of the time. The suicide of the officer being the stand out dubious bit.

LongIslandIcedTea · 13/02/2011 14:15

Splice is the worst movie i have seen. Deeeeeply disturbing too!! Humans having it on with aliens, WHY?!

In our house we use brave heart to describe other shit films -

Gladiator - shitter version of braveheart with sandals
Troy - shitter version of braveheart with togas
300 - ...with more gay nakedness
Last samurai - ... In china

Tis quite effective!

CaptainKirksNipples · 13/02/2011 15:02

Almost forgot my favourite one LOTR - brave heart with fairies!

Saltire · 13/02/2011 16:33

I am one of these people who will avoid films if I am not keen on the actor. however, braveheart and the Last Samurai seemed to get through.
I thinkt eh things that annoyed me about the pish that was braveheart was the historical innacuracies (this annoyed me more than anything) and Mel Gibson -t ehre are hundreds of fab scottish/british actors who could ahve doen the role justice

Psammead · 13/02/2011 16:47

There were no fairies in LOTR.

And it was great from start to finish. An instant classic.

dawntigga · 13/02/2011 18:52

Psammead ityf LOTR it was awful in every way possible. I started chanting 'Kill the Hobbit' 5 minutes into the first one and didn't want to stop in the vain hope I'd get thrown out. No such bloody luck!

falsemessageoflethargy · 13/02/2011 18:59

Like they said in Clerks II about LOTR - 3 hours of hobbits walking. 3 hours too many of hobbits walking frankly.

LetThereBeRock · 13/02/2011 19:03

I'm a Scot, and I hated Braveheart. Mel Gibson was wrong for that part, and the film was far too long, and is vastly overrated.

However I do love Rob Roy,particuarly as it stars two of my favourite actors,Liam Neeson and Tim Roth.

300 is one of my favourite films.Blush

LetThereBeRock · 13/02/2011 19:03

As for LOTR I really didn't like the first one,it was tedious, but I rather enjoyed the Two Towers and Return of The King.

SarahStrattonHasNiceBears · 13/02/2011 19:09

Hell, nearly all my favourite films are named on this thread Blush

Spenguin · 13/02/2011 19:19

China?!

Japan!

However, agree 'The Last Samurai' was shit and you were reasonable to fall asleep and miss this detail!

CaptainKirksNipples · 13/02/2011 20:16

Details shmetails china/ japan, fairies/hobbits, you get the idea Grin

freerangeeggs · 13/02/2011 20:30

Braveheart is shite, and I LOVE IT

We used to watch it at my dad's house when we were young (yes you're right, it is an 18). I know bits of it off by heart.

It's not that it's historically inaccurate - it's just that it took history, and made it better.

Much like the Tudors. Ugly fat ginger people? No thanks. Jonathan Rhys Meyers? Umm yes please.

I especially love the naked outdoors sex scene. Damn right your nipples are sticking out!! Just think what had happened to his poor willy. I bet he didn't have to paint that blue.

Mirage · 13/02/2011 20:33

I am reading Joel Esterhas's book at the minute. He boasts of all the screenplays he has written, the millions he has made, and then boasts that he wrote Showgirls!Shock.Blimey,if I'd written that,I'd be keeping damn quiet about it.Dh and I tried to watch it about 3 times, but never made it past the first 15 minutes, and we love films based in Las Vegas. It really is puerile shit.

Almost as bad as Vanilla Sky-never managed to sit through that either and tried more than once.

Psammead · 13/02/2011 20:49

dawntigga

Maybe it was a bit above your head? It could be a leetle complex Smile

EldritchCleavage · 14/02/2011 11:06

300 is the Persian Wars re-imagined (as they say in Hollywood) as an L.A. fetish party. I loved it. DH nearly broke up with me because I skipped off to see that (he is very high-brow, culturally. It gets irritating).

Well she was clearly finished with it. But he made it have a JFL/dreadlock/ferret tail in the middle of the back of it. Very distracting, it looked stinky.

ellina · 14/02/2011 13:02

YANBU - can't stand it. Put me off Mel Gibson for life.

I'm English and had the misfortune of watching it first time with my Welsh dp, my Irish flatmate and her Scottish dp - oh how they laughed.

I wouldn't mind so much if it bore any resemblance to the truth.

Milngavie · 14/02/2011 13:05

I see your Braveheart and raise you...

The Worlds Greatest Dad starring Robin Williams.

Total and utter dross.

LittleBugsMum · 14/02/2011 13:11

Sorry, I know this has been going for 10 pages but I have to post!

This film is like porn for me. Mel Gibson, dirty, long hair & those thighs!!! Oh my. I don't care that he's a bit evil now - I still would. In a heartbeat.

That's my guilty little secret. I'm otherwise an intelligent and generally well-rounded individual.
