To be shocked on the way the girls are dressed on My big fat Gypsie Wedding

I understand that the Gypsie/travelling community have very high morals, why the hell are the little girls dressed like mini lolitas Hmm. Flesh everywhere, and dressed in a sexual manner. Its fine for the adults if they want to dress like that and wear those big wedding dresses, but not kids. They are just little girls.

iismum, yes I also wondered about leaving school at 11 - surely that is illegal? How can it be allowed?

All the 'cultural' arguments are making me Angry. Denying girls an education, encouraging them to see their worth as fully tied up in their physical attractiveness and offering them no choice other than being a wife and mother is misogyny, pure and simple

C0FFEE · 27/01/2011 19:08

It is not at all illegal to leave school at 11, it is perfectly legal to home educate at any age.

I have just arrived at this thread. Totally agree with Red panda. My cousins dc are champion dancers, been on TV etc. The girls dancing looked no different that disco dancers at competitions. Fake tan, fake lashes the lot- even the moves were comparable. Its not something I've encouraged my dc's to be involved in but I can't judge it as a culture as the outfits were for a certain occasion.

Do you think there's a thread on here where the traveling community are defending us 'gorgas' (I doubt it)Hmm...and if we're talking judging here there was certainly an awful lot of judging on the two programs I watched in this series from the traveling community about non-travelers including such comments as; we don't accept non-travelers (gorgas) into our community, it's the gorgas fault we have to move out etc..etc.. So I think in fairness there was an awful lot of judging coming from the travelers side as well. I went to school with travelers, witnessed my mother have vinegar thrown in her eyes in front of me aged 9 for refusing to serve a traveler man after hours drinks (she was a barmaid)I was meeting her from work, and seen my sister come home with chunks of her hair pulled out by a gang of gypsy women because her boyfriend went to the aid of a man being kicked almost to death in the gutter by traveler men Shockthe travelers that attacked my mum and sister were attacking 2 defenseless women Angry I make no apologies for judging them and not being terribly understanding of a bullying culture

Also forgot to mention that a friend of mine had travelers set up camp on a green near her, an elderly lady who lived a few doors down was tending her garden one day when 2 little gypsie children started chatting to her outside her house..whilst their older sibs/parents/adult friends were inside her house taking all her valuables and exiting over the back fence. A couple of days later my friends next door neighbour challenged some gypsies who were trying to get over his back fence (n/d neigbour stated that he is a true romany gypsie)....the next day n/d neighbour went out to his garden to find his dog dead Sad...
vet said the dog had been given poisoned meat. maybe if the traveling community have such little respect for non-travelers it's in their culture to act this way towards us or is it ok for them to judge and condemn us on live T.V and us just sit on MN and make excuses for their 'culture'? Hmm

angelgirlNatasha · 02/04/2012 18:53

well i dont know what to say but i agree that irish gypsy girls as young as the age of 5,6(5-17)dress so tarty they wear stuff that is not accurate for their age and they think there as different as everyone else im not trying to say im against them but they dont dress their age they look as if there all about, makeup, fake tan, long hair(hair extensions, hot clothes, nails, high heels etc also the way i have seen them dance is shocking i mean its alright if it was an adult but seeing young girls do that its really sad and shocking.they have time to be a woman and thats that.all they look as if they are about is attratcing men and gettin married i know thats their culture but they have enough time to be a lady.also some of them leave school early just to do all this sillyness so they are throwing their chance and education away for this.i mean i dont have a problem or dilema,or an issue with it but i just dont think its acceptable to dress like that.ive never seen a young girl dress like that since that show had come on.when me and my bestfriend found out that this show was coming on soon we thought that it sounds exciting and she was gonna cum to my house to watch it but wen we saw all of that we were shocked and just looking at eachother.they shouldnt also have them gypsy girls wearing them big big weighing 70pounds dresses.why cant the girls wear something thats comftable i mean i hav nothing against it but they just worry to much and its not good. thats my opinion

A village near mine experienced a lot of crime when the travellers set up camp there (years ago now) it was unheard of here before. Houses, sheds and garages were burgled. We got verbal abuse walking down the street.

We are expected to respect them but they have no respect for non- travellers. They wrecked to farmers field and left human waste all over it and their dogs killed the some sheep. Why won't some hotels accept their wedding parties? Because thet wreck the place.

They are strict catholics but turn up late for services and walk in and out as they please, where is the respect for God? They use violence in bear knuckle fighting which is not what the bible preaches.

The girls only keep themselves "pure" because of the mens attitude and are frightened of being left on the shelf so they marry young. They leave school young to keep house I didn't see much home education going on.

And why are the mens faces pixilated? I will leave you to guess.

Why did you resurrect such an old thread angelgirlNatasha - and resurrect it with a post that is so badly spelled and punctuated that it is as good as unreadable?

Jelly15 · 02/04/2012 19:20

Wow I didn't realise this thread was so old when I posted!

CountryMouse27 · 02/04/2012 19:22

With you Jelly15. Yes I know that not all are like that, but the truth is most of them are. Why do they live in caravans? Because its their way of life and they dont pay all the taxes that I do.

Once you step off the conventional ladder then that leads to other criminal acts, like not allowing your children access to education, flytipping, building without consent, the list goes on.

SodoffBaldrick · 02/04/2012 19:57

Why bump an old thread?

I am more shocked at the dreadful grammar being taught in schools these days......
