To be shocked on the way the girls are dressed on My big fat Gypsie Wedding

I understand that the Gypsie/travelling community have very high morals, why the hell are the little girls dressed like mini lolitas Hmm. Flesh everywhere, and dressed in a sexual manner. Its fine for the adults if they want to dress like that and wear those big wedding dresses, but not kids. They are just little girls.

Why should you be shocked at Traveller culture?

It might be a meat market - but they don't slut around and bed out of wedlock or have illegitimate babies.

If I let my 6 year old chose, buy and select her own clothes/shoes I think that's how she'd probably want to dress. Big, puffy ballgowny, princessy stuff.

I dont know, but surely its not right for a little child to wear hotpants and crop tops with heels. Its kind of hypocrasy to say that they are very strict but then to allow little girls to dress like that.

where do they find/buy cloths like this? the UK was in uproar when primark sold croptops/hot pants/'sexy' clothes aimed at 8/9yr olds....!!!! Shock

Not shocked at the traveller culture trois just the way the little girls are dressed, as I have been on another C4 programme a while ago about child stardom or something. Its still a child whether they are a traveller child or not.

Why cant I be shocked that a young child is allowed to dress in hotpants, crop tops and heels and dancing provocatively, cant be right wherever the child is from traveller or not.

Yes, you have a good point. I said this to DH last week when watching actually, that whilst they have such high morals I dont understand why they dress like prositutes (I wasnt talking about the childrent, the adults).

Completely respect the culture and each to their own but just very curious as to why.

The gypsy/travelling community have extremely high moral standards and certainly while their young girls might be rather extremely dressed they don't drink or sleep around.

Unlike a depressing number of similarly aged girls from outside the traveller community who go out wearing fanny-length skirts and add to their general air of elegance by vomiting in gutters and fucking in back alleys.

So of moral high ground, I think one has to be very careful before attempting to occupy it all.

The big dresses were fine. My dd would love one! Not my taste tho. The other pop star clothes were awful but as someone mentioned not purely travellers that dress like this. It was wrong to me but not my culture I guess!! So who am I to comment.

The message that their clothes give out though, certainly the older girls, is provocative sexuality, tarty, cheap, and gagging for it.

Whether they are or not, it certainly isnt a chaste image and really does look dreadful.

I also have very clear memories of travellers in the pubs around Epsom at Derby week, and the girls certainly dont have high moral standards then.

A person should be able to wear what they want, if someone thinks it sexual they should keep the thought to themselves.

Its not the communion dresses, its the ones that the little girls danced in at the party. Not all people from outside the travelling community get pissed, sleep around and end up in gutters. Who knows what the little girls will do in the future. And the little girl being stray tanned for the first communion! I think that these first communiions are more about show, and less about religion imo.

What about indigenous tribes who don't wear clothes in the traditional sense? Do we judge them as overtly sexual or just accept it's part of their culture?

no doubt I will be flamed here, but when women go out with a skirt showing their ass, and cleavage falling out of their top, with belly on display, they are hardly saying "dont look at me"...

yes, women should be able to wear what they want, but dressing in a provocative way that attracts attention IS asking for trouble.

Of course it doesnt mean that a woman should be raped for wearing those sort of clothes, but the message a woman dressed like a prostitute sends out is that she wants attention.. decent normal men will avoid a woman like that, some blokes will think she is fair game to treat like shit..

thats the way the world is..

That is totally different allatsea, the type of attire is different. The clothes that the children were wearing were minituriesed adult clothes which give out certain messages. Ok then all the girls should be able to wear what they want. Would you let your dd if you have one dress in that way!

it part of there culture, every one in the culture wears the same sort of clothes...to them it is normal way of life.

i have seen my nieces dance like pop stars ( in a sexual way) however this is behind closed doors.

these little girl live in carvan, which don't have the room like a living room

stilettos, hot pants and crop tops are not traditional to any culture.. as far as I am aware..

Traveller girls dont go out unchaperoned either ..... they go in groups, they dont leave each other, they dont drink before marriage... meat market it might by by 'our' standards ... but they are chaste and faithful - unlike a very large proportion of manstream society. They'd rather die than have illigetitimate children; yes, they should be applauded for their sexual morals.
