My DH and DS (15months) were visiting the church where my father is vicar yesterday and as it was his 60th birthday there was fizz and cake after the service for all the congregation. My dad was having a great time and loved showing off his only grandchild to his flock (it was so lovely actually) but as he was talking to a couple of ladies from the church one of them had been coo-ing over DS and all of a sudden shoved a huge chunk of cake into his mouth!

I was at a distance looking on and wasnt able to get there in time to ask her what the hell she was doing but to say I was shocked was an understatement! I actually shrieked!

I have a few issues with this and tell me if IABU but surely having food shoved in your mouth when you're not expecting it (and even if you are) is a basic human rights violation! Also, what if he had an allergy she wasnt aware of. I let him have a bit of cake every now and again so thats not an issue but she even ask my dad if he was allowed any, she just shoved it in!

I'm sure DS didnt really mind although he was a bit taken aback! (He's BLW'd too so never really has anyone put food in his mouth for him!)

Maybe I've blown it out of all proportion but I was so shocked! She was an older lady if that's relevant? Is this just what they do!?

AIBU?

MarniesMummy · 18/01/2011 17:57

I rather like you too SmuddySmile.

verytellytubby · 18/01/2011 18:10

How loud was your shriek???! Grin

It's cake not crack. I'm amazed it's taken 15 months.

KurriKurri · 18/01/2011 18:21

Surely this is normal old lady behaviour?, I'm looking forward to the day (not to far in the future) when I can go out armed with cake to stuff in hapless toddlers mouths.

Smuddy81 · 18/01/2011 20:12

It'll take more than 'Gatueau-gate' to scare me off!

Thank you to my new fans! I rather like you guys too! Grin

Smuddy, you have redeemed yourself somewhat, but really, lighten up - or you are going to find the next several years very hard work Smile

JosieRosie · 18/01/2011 21:11

Oh leave her alone Santos! She's obviously a top gal and has been able to laugh at herself on here which took guts. I'm uptight too Smuddy and think the lady in question was WELL out of order - you know it's ultimately not the end of the world, but you have every right to be pissed off about it

Add me to your fan club Grin

SantosLHalper · 18/01/2011 21:17

The tone wasn't obvious in my last post...I like her too. Just friendly advice to chill out. It took me years to do it!

bestmamaderwelt · 18/01/2011 21:18

I think its a great thing to do, lived in spain for a while they do this thing all the time. And FYI most babies suffer allergies from being deprived of things ie nuts etc at and early age and off course this sort of thing is great for immune systems.

cookieraymond · 18/01/2011 21:21

OMG total PFB. Chill Out Grin you will hopefully laugh at yourself one day

Acanthus · 21/01/2011 17:16

Smutty you seem great, please stick around Smile

jessiealbright · 21/01/2011 17:43

I would just like to declare that I love ricecakes. They're lovely with a spread of margarine and tomato puree or marmite.

MsKLo · 21/01/2011 20:10

i dont think you are being at all unreasonable and i think this woman was totally fucking rude to do that. my ds is three and hardly ever has cake and if he does, i decide not some random woman! people like that really really piss me off! aghhhhhhhhhh!

trixymalixy · 21/01/2011 20:28

bestmamaderwelt what a load of claptrap.

Children do not suffer allergies because they are deprived of things. My kids are allergic to milk which they were exposed to within minutes of being born. Bang goes that theory then. Please don't make statements as if they are fact when you don't have the first clue.

OP you are being a bit precious, but the lady should have asked first. Both my kids would have projectile vomited it back over her if she had tried that with them as they are both allergic to egg. That would have made sure she didn't do it again !!

JumpOnIt · 21/01/2011 20:52

YANBU but it's a bit out of proportion. Just an instinctive reaction, I reckon. Nothing bad happened and long as some random woman doesn't try and do that every time you go out, no harm done!

If it's any consolation, when my DD was three months old, my DH saw fit to dip his finger in his Jalfrezi and let her suck it. He was genuinely surprised when I flew across the table in horror. No lasting damage though! :)

McHobbes · 21/01/2011 20:56

You actually shrieked??!!

Hahahaaaaa! Ludicrous!
