To think it's about time we could choose the sex of our babies..

Provided we already have one of the opposite sex. Horrible story in the DM (yes, I know)..about an Australian woman aborting healthy twin boys because they wanted a girl.

Yes, utterly vile and unnacceptable, but couldn't this have been avoided if she could have chosen the sex?

Like I said , only if you already have one of the opposite sex (or two maybe)...

It is your right to want a particular gender, but it isn't your right to do anything about it.

I do agree with sex selection when there is some genetic disease within the family. The question is where do you stop with this thought.

My dad and now brother have a spine condition that, whilst not life threatening, does have a significant impact on their lives. The condition runs down the male side. My brother and his wife have chosen not to have children because of the risk of this. I think that in this sort of case sex selection should be available.

Luckily I don't have to worry about this, being female I don't have it and am not a carrier, but if there was a risk I would defintely want to look into sex selection as I wouldn't want any child to have to go through what my Dad and brother have gone through.

I think the question is how far do you go with this.....who is to judge the severity of a condition which would mean that someone qualifies for sex selection?

I don't think that you should be able to select just because you want, but it is a very difficult line.

I think that was a bit rambling, but hope you know what I mean.
