I see it more and more often in aibu.

"to of eaten this"

"to of gone out today"

To give a couple of examples.

Never seen it, or it I did assumed it was a typo.

It is horrendous.

Numberfour · 27/12/2010 12:13

I think you MIGHT just get an earful: for starting a thread about a thread and for criticizing someone's grammar..........

bellavita · 27/12/2010 12:14

I could not care less tbh!

ninedragons · 27/12/2010 12:14

YANBU at all.

I don't even click onto those threads.

SleepingLion · 27/12/2010 12:14

No, I'm with the OP. It's a really grating error.

yama · 27/12/2010 12:14

I dont click. Irrational I know.

Doobies · 27/12/2010 12:15

Probably numberfour but I am very bored....I do find it distressing though.

YABU for being annoyed only when mumsnetters do it.

I get annoyed when anyone does it

Grin
Doobies · 27/12/2010 12:17

I have only seen it on here but then I don't use any other forums Grin

OP posts:
BubbaAndBump · 27/12/2010 12:22

It is awful in real life and written down - but it's done loads and loads (one of my real bugbears - DH even does it and I am The Queen of All Pedants Xmas Shock

YABU though to post about it here - go to pedants' corner and you will have everyone agreeing with you.

IHeartKittensAndWine · 27/12/2010 12:23

I can (just) forgive this in speech because it's "'ve" rather than "of" - lazy but not plain wrong. I want to vomit when I see it written down because it shows the writer doesn't have the sense of what they're saying. And no, this isn't elitisim it's thinking through what you put down on paper.

oldandgreynow · 27/12/2010 12:50

YABU- why do you care?

TrillianAstra · 27/12/2010 12:51

It's horrible.

You should probably go find a friendly ear in Pedants' Corner.

LeakMyWiki · 27/12/2010 12:54

YANBU at all.

sweetandtenderhooligan · 27/12/2010 12:54

YANBU. Everything Kittens said.

usualsuspect · 27/12/2010 12:56

Who cares ..its an internet forum ffs

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 27/12/2010 13:13

've/of confusion. Irksome, but not worth its own thread.

BringOnTheGoat · 27/12/2010 13:18

Should of put it in pedants corner Xmas Biscuit

Katisha · 27/12/2010 13:21

I care.
I don't open those threads.

I don't mind language changing and moving on for all sorts of reasons, but I object to it happening because of ignorance, which we are then apparently not allowed to point out because it's rude...

CarolSinger · 27/12/2010 13:24

YABU to of let it get to you...am I doing it right wrong? Xmas Grin

usualsuspect · 27/12/2010 13:24

No wonder some people think MN is smugsnet

Katisha · 27/12/2010 13:25

It isn't being smug FFS.

Why is it so WRONG to know something?

usualsuspect · 27/12/2010 13:26

Its wrong to point it out all the bloody time

pedants corner is over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

claig · 27/12/2010 13:29

YABU.
I of seen it hundreds have times and of now got used to it.

It's the fault of the people who voted Labour. They promised dumbing down and that's what they gave us. It is the result of their education, education, education fallacy.

BringOnTheGoat · 27/12/2010 13:30

It's not wrong to know or to say, bit pathetic to start a thread - IMO- but of course OP can start thread on anything and I can opine - beautiful thing MN
