I see it more and more often in aibu.

"to of eaten this"

"to of gone out today"

To give a couple of examples.

"ScottishM- you do mean motto* don't you? Unless your family own the motorway service stations called MOTO.

scottishmummy · 29/12/2010 11:29

no i never amend spellings on posts, and dont expect anyone else to either

NetworkGuy · 29/12/2010 16:16

That's a bit naive sm - just because you don't expect something does not mean it won't happen. Others are unaware of what is going on in your head, and vice versa.

Of course, how one approaches a comment, and how one responds to it, will determine any further reaction about it.

I saw a post the other week and asked via a private message about what was meant, and had a rather OTT response about the person not needing to be harrangued via her inbox where my enquiry was polite and I thought gave a clear explanation of my question, and how it was unclear which posts on the thread had puzzled her (there were over 250 posts in the thread and that person complained about a lack of commonsense in the thread while there had been many and varied comments posted).

cabbageroses · 29/12/2010 16:50

lol SM - is that a rather funny way of saying you didn't realise that motto has 2 Ts, and MOTO is like Granada- a food/service chain?

Or are you saying you don't point out other's spelling errors?

Personally, I would find it rather helpful if someone pointed out kindly that there was an error, so I would not make it again, perhaps in circumstances that might matter more than an internet forum.

NetworkGuy · 29/12/2010 17:26

cabbageroses - only Moto I can think of is the shortened Motorola name in some mobile phone ads :)

scottishmummy · 29/12/2010 18:08

i never spellcheck on mn and not bothered about errors, and cannot see any intrinsic value in the mistake being flagged up.as i woint check or change posts for spelling

usualsuspect · 29/12/2010 18:09

scottishmummy · 29/12/2010 18:27

Stressed pre menstrual mumsnetters/pedants getting annoyed with you? :o

NetworkGuy · 30/12/2010 02:58

cabbageroses - thanks so much for that link, you really, really, don't know how useful that has been for me...

In fact, when I've made 100 K, you'll get a commission fee of 5% for the link. Just make sure you don't disappear off MN in the next 2 years, please.
