To not bath my son in a month

He's 7 months old and it's too damn cold in here, (he is starting to get stinky tho).

Not sure if you are joking....

If not, I think you know yabu.

violethill · 11/12/2010 12:47

It won't kill him, but it may not feel very nice for him if he's getting a bit sticky or grubby.

When you say you aren't bathing him, do you actually mean not washing him at all? Or doing a flannel all over wash (which would count as a bath imo)?

I can't see the issue really. Get the room, or part of a room as warm as possible, whip his clothes off, quick all over wash, whether dunked right in or washed down with a flannel. Surely you can do that?

onimolap · 11/12/2010 12:47

My DS hated the bath until he could sit up firmly.

I used to clean him with a massage of olive oil with a single drop of lavender or chamomile oil.

Possibly not good in the cold - is there anything you can do to keep at least one room properly warm?

violethill · 11/12/2010 12:48

Presumably you clean him when you change his nappies? or have you left him in the same one for a month??

jooseyfruit · 11/12/2010 12:49

do you have a fire? can you stick him in a bucket or baby bath in front of it?

YAB a little bit U, but it's not the end of the world.

AllGoodNamesGone · 11/12/2010 12:50

YABU.

Could always do what my mum did when I was little - she would give us a quick wash down while we stood in a washing up bowl in front of the log fire in the living room!

Obviously at seven months he'll have to sit in the bowl!

Find the warmest spot in your house and as long as you don't leave him wet and nekkid for long he'll be fine.

QueenGigantaurofMnet · 11/12/2010 12:51

i don't understand how it can be too cold to bath?

surely the water is hot and you have towels to wrap him in when he gets out.

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 11/12/2010 12:52

My mum used to bath me in the kitchen sink when I was little.

Ryoko · 11/12/2010 12:53

I mean a bath, a baby bath of water and soap this place is freezing, I've got tape and cling film round the 70 odd year old single glazed windows and it's still freezing.

No wonder the rents cheap for the area and DF will not buy a fan heater so I can wack it on for a few mins to warm the place up (says it uses up too much electric) so I can give him a bath (for that matter DF hasn't had one for 2 weeks for the same reason and I haven't had one for a week because I'm waiting for a parcel).

Hmm
QOD · 11/12/2010 12:57

why can't you bath without your parcel?

scarletbegonia · 11/12/2010 12:57

Is waiting for a parcel some kind of euphamism ?

violethill · 11/12/2010 12:58

Why can't you buy a fan heater yourself?!

Still think it's pretty straightforward to bath a baby - you can be quick about it. And as many others have said, it's what we all did in the past. I grew up in a house with no central heating, crappy little electric wall mounted fires in the bedrooms and a coal fire in the living room, nothing in kitchen, bathroom etc and certainly no double glazing, yet we all survived!

blametheparents · 11/12/2010 12:59

Wouldn't matter how cold it was, I would have to have a bath / shower.

YABU, babies don't need bathing every day, but do need it once a week imo

Casmama · 11/12/2010 12:59

If its really that difficult why don't you take him swimming and have a good wash before you go in.

pooka · 11/12/2010 12:59

Yabu.

He's getting stinky. He needs a bath. A quick bath in warm water followed by a dry in warm towels in your arms.

Ridiculous.

onimolap · 11/12/2010 13:00

When you've got (or given up on) the parcel, perhaps you could all go swimming?

AlistairSim · 11/12/2010 13:01

Do you not have friends or family who could visit at bath time?

What's in the parcel?

ForFestiveSake · 11/12/2010 13:02

We have single glazing here too - it does get cold but I just make sure the door is shut then run the bath - hot water first. Which seems to warm it up quit a bit. then I dress DS in the bathroom too - the steam usually keeps the room warm enough imo.

He doesn't seem to mind.

doggiesayswoof · 11/12/2010 13:03

I think you are making this into a big thing in your head

Stop overthinking, just give him a quick wash then wrap him up warm

What heating do you have? can you wash him in front of the fire?

and yes buy a fan heater yourself. Is your DF this controlling about other stuff too?

doggiesayswoof · 11/12/2010 13:04

Explain the parcel thing?

Ryoko · 11/12/2010 13:04

If I get in the bath I guarantee the bugger from HDNL will finally deliver the thing, by the time I get out the bath he will be long gone with me to face another week of emailing and phoning and crap.

I'm worried he will get a cold, he takes awhile to bath because of all the wiggling about.

I can buy a fan heater but he wouldn't like it, because of the bills, I didn't mean he wouldn't buy one I meant he doesn't want one in the house because they use a lot of power.

OP posts:
doggiesayswoof · 11/12/2010 13:07

Oh I see - why can't you have your bath later on in the evening after they stop their deliveries?

I would say to your DF that you only want to use the heater for a few mins when you are bathing the baby. They are not expensive to run for a few mins.

do you have any heating at all?

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 11/12/2010 13:08

Parcel will only come in the daytime. You can still bathe in the evening or early morning if it worries you that much.
