to not 'do' santa?

I don't believe in Santa and refuse to lie to my child about it. The first year he could ask about it was when he was 3 and I just said that lots of people liked to believe in Santa but really he was just pretend.
I have yet to find a single person who has done the same, even if I can get them to agree in principle, no one will agree in practice. I'd love to hear what others think (other than that I am a Scrooge) and see if anyone agrees with me....

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 02/12/2010 20:14

its what she started the thread for imo

JoBettany · 02/12/2010 20:16

I don't think so.

pancakequeen · 02/12/2010 20:30

don't know if you are still around OP but please don't do it! My parents told me from day one that FC was a big lie "we don't lie it's wrong" etc It actually made me very sad as a child and now I go crazy at Xmas for DS and DD, I am trying to persuade them not to pass this on to my kids, I love my parents but I think that decision was wrong IMHO

Jumpty · 02/12/2010 20:31

JoBettany this isn't about the OP's original question. It's about the rude and high-handed way she dealt with the discussion and she was nasty to missmoopy for no good reason. I think casting aspersions on a complete strangers parenting skills over something fairly lighthearted is way nastier than being called

I have read the whole thread. I am not talking about someone being called a pompous ass!! I do think the OP is being U. Absolutely.

I do think looking around MN for other posts she is making is out of order. And the subsequent comments...just leaves a nasty taste.

The idea that she 'deserved' it in some way because she had offended another poster is not in anyway a justification.

Once again IMO.

usualsuspect · 02/12/2010 20:46

JoBettany you can always get our comments deleted Xmas Grin

JoBettany · 02/12/2010 20:48

Yeah right! Xmas Grin

Not a road I would go down!

Jumpty · 02/12/2010 20:57

JoBettany, you know I did think about that. I was looking yesterday to see if she was a first time poster because it came up a few times throughout the thread, not looking to spill this over into other threads. I didn't post it yesterday probably because I felt the same as you. Sorry for the nasty taste, I accept that was OOO.

JoBettany · 02/12/2010 21:10

Crikey, don't apologise! Now I feel bad. Xmas Grin.

usualsuspect · 02/12/2010 21:11

Hello. Please can we remind you all of our Talk Guidelines

Yes, we WILL delete posts that are a personal attack once they are reported to us.

We welcome robust and forthright debate but, as we say in our Note at the top of every AIBU thread: "Please bear in mind that whilst this topic does canvass opinions, it is not a fight club. You may disagree with other posters but we do ask you please to stick to our Talk Guidelines and to be civil. We don't allow personal attacks."

missmoopy · 02/12/2010 21:31

Ooops, naughty missmoopy.

(P.S I stand by every single post I have posted, so there....blows raspberry)

usualsuspect · 02/12/2010 21:35

Bit choosy on who she choose to report though

HelenMumsnet · 02/12/2010 21:37

missmoopy : it's fine to stand by your opinion; but not fine to attack someone personally. Trust you understand

HelenMumsnet · 02/12/2010 22:02

It's possible, maryz.

But equally posters have a right to be treated civilly - even on AIBU and no matter how, um, interesting their opinions Smile - and it's not unreasonable of them to report personal attacks. Especially if they are a newbie...

Jumpty · 02/12/2010 22:04

HelenMumsnet - the OP made a number of very insulting statements. Some applied to a large number of people (parents who tell their kids about FC are liars and don't value the truth as much as she does), a smaller number of people (telling her DS that his friends' parents are liars) and some people in particular (re missmoopy's parenting skills). These are all personal attacks and people's morals/values and their parenting skills. The only reason this looks like ganging up is that the OP threw out highly offensive remarks and no-one thought she was being reasonable so she ended up in a minority of one.
