I find them a bit like a secret I've not been let in on

Find the music tres dull

I get the cultural significance etc but fucking hell, it's been 40-odd years...

OP posts:
southeastastra · 20/11/2010 22:12

i think they can all be relevant to a time in your life,- we should be proud of them a bit more imo

though british music has been really shite for the last ten years or so

BlueHerring · 20/11/2010 22:12

Wow! Loads of posters love For No One too - maybe I should start hating it then... Wink

ZZZenAgain · 20/11/2010 22:13

it's true they made so many songs and often very different

Quite like In my life in parts but I don't think I'd be buying it to hear over and over

Hassled · 20/11/2010 22:13

Well fair play to you for having a listen, at least :).

I used to love Dylan. I've gone off him a bit in my old age - now I just find him a bit irritating.

nameymcnamechange · 20/11/2010 22:13

Back In The USSR, I'm Only Sleeping, The Ballad of John & Yoko.

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 22:14

Can't love the Beatles without knowing the Stones I reckon anyway. And I love Mr Dylan.

2shoes · 20/11/2010 22:16

yanbu
I hate PM like ringo as he did TTTE
john Lennon was good though
the rolling stones were heaps better

ZZZenAgain · 20/11/2010 22:19

listening to When my guitar gently weeps atm

A lot of their music is ballads really, isn't it?

WestYorkshirePudding · 20/11/2010 22:20

Love X Factor - hate the Beatles

tethersend · 20/11/2010 22:21

Helter Skelter

Don't let me down

She came in through the bathroom window

BlueHerring · 20/11/2010 22:22

Try Helter Skelter if you want a non-ballad example...

retiredgoth2 · 20/11/2010 22:22

ZZZ try She Said She Said.

No ballad there...

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 22:23

We can work it out. Lovely.

daftpunk · 20/11/2010 22:26

ZZZ; I don't like everything the Beatles wrote - but collectively and individually they were brilliant. Paul McCartney and John Lennon have written some of the best songs ever ( lots of examples given here ) and anyone who has an ear for music would be able to appreciate that brilliant creativity. You don't have to love them - but I'd expect you to appreciate them. To dismiss the Beatles as "overrated" and " rubbish" shows a massive lack of musical knowledge.

No big deal in the great scheme of things - but if I was chatting to you at a party and you announced your dislike of the Beatles - I'd roll my eyes and walk off to find someone more interesting...

ZZZenAgain · 20/11/2010 22:27

am listening to Tomorrow never knows at the moment but I'll get to it.

I'm working through all your examples!
Is Norwegian Wood not particularly good, isn't that one with the sitar? Think I quite like that one but none of you finding it worthy of mention!l ol

Kaloki · 20/11/2010 22:27

Oh god I hate them, I'll listen to loads of stuff, but beatles songs are like sandpaper on my ears.

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 22:29

YY daftpunk.Quite.

daftpunk · 20/11/2010 22:31

Norwegian Wood is beautiful

Hassled · 20/11/2010 22:33

I read or heard something re Norwegian Wood where John was saying he was trying to write about having affairs with girls without his wife realising that's what he was writing about. I can't imagine he did a very good job at it. Great song, though.

Helter Skelter and Back in the USSR I do like

southeastastra · 20/11/2010 22:37

you don't like them now, but one day you will like them

if you like music you will the end,,

ZZZenAgain · 20/11/2010 22:38

sorry about blabbing all over the thread. I like the faster ones. Ballad of John and Yoko is nice.

Actually when I think "Beatles", I tend to think of the songs you are (I am) sick to death of hearing on the radio - Eleanor Rigby and Hey Jude and Strawberry Fields etc.

MsHighwater · 20/11/2010 22:40

I Will
If I fell
Here, There and Everywhere

would be my pick atm. There are others but those are the ones I come up with just like that.

Musical taste is subjective so it's OK not to like the Beatles but you'd have to accept that it puts you in the minority.

Kaloki · 20/11/2010 22:41

No chance south, I associate them with feeling hugely irritated. Mainly by people telling me who I should and shouldn't like Hmm I've had less hassle for blaspheming than I have for saying I dislike the Beatles. Like it's a crime to have different tastes
