I find them a bit like a secret I've not been let in on

Find the music tres dull

I get the cultural significance etc but fucking hell, it's been 40-odd years...

TheNextMrsDepp · 20/11/2010 20:58

YABU.

Superb songwriters; some of their early stuff is somewhat dated, but most of it still knocks spots off the rubbish that is churned out at the moment.

greentea72 · 20/11/2010 20:59

yanbu - always thought them overated

perfumedlife · 20/11/2010 21:05

Although I do have an original Hard Days Night album, was dads. Some of the ballads on there are lovely, And I love for, When I fell and so on.

Vallhala · 20/11/2010 21:06

Behave you lot!

What do/did they have going for them?

Hey Jude, Eleanor Rigby and Taxman! That's it!

What's more, Liza Radley is pretty much the bottom half of Eleanor Rigby and as good, if not better, as Eleanor Rigby, and Start! may be a bastardised version of Taxman, but it's an improvement on it too. :)

whoknowswhatthefutureholds · 20/11/2010 21:06

yabu - Sometimes is my favourite ever song.

southeastastra · 20/11/2010 21:15

Tortington · 20/11/2010 21:17

Rockbird · 20/11/2010 21:18

OK, I'll venture that Here, There and Everywhere makes me cry a little bit, but otherwise it's tosh!

ZZZenAgain · 20/11/2010 21:18

Hassled · 20/11/2010 21:21

I'm starting to understand how I would feel if I had a religious faith and couldn't fathom how it wasn't shared :o. You heathens are just baffling the hell out of me.

You are being VVVV unreasonable.

Yes the beatification (see what I did there?) can be irritating. Yes some of the most famous songs (yesterday for example) are a trifle ordinary. But the best Beatles music is the finest, most ground breaking music I know.

I was just about to start a thread (honestly!) about the Beatles. I've been listening to Revolver tonight.

It is perfection

No song longer than three minutes, each supremely crafted pieces of utter wonder.

And it is my belief that all popular music since 1966 owes it a debt.

notnowbernard · 20/11/2010 21:24

RetiredGoth are you Noel Gallagher

PaisleyLeaf · 20/11/2010 21:25
Shock Sacrilege! yabu What about 'Day in the Life', 'Strawberry fields', 'Something', Come Together', 'Dear Prudence', 'Because', 'While my Guitar...' - I could go on (and on) myself. I love so many of them.
DuelingFanjo · 20/11/2010 21:27

YANBU, they suck.

I also really can't understand why people thing Lennon was any good? That Imagine song is just awful!

Hassled · 20/11/2010 21:28

retiredgoth2 - at last a man of sense. I heard Tomorrow Never Knows the other day - hadn't listened to it for ages - and was just in awe.

woolymindy · 20/11/2010 21:28

Yes I hate them too, you are being entirely reasonable.

daftpunk · 20/11/2010 21:29

Is that the only JL song you know?

retiredgoth2 · 20/11/2010 21:31

Noel Gallagher?

I am, in fact, David Gedge.
