I find them a bit like a secret I've not been let in on

Find the music tres dull

I get the cultural significance etc but fucking hell, it's been 40-odd years...

Jealous Guy is a beautiful song.

southeastastra · 20/11/2010 21:32

without the beatles you wouldn't have had most pop music now like it or not

daftpunk · 20/11/2010 21:33

#9 dream

Animation · 20/11/2010 21:33

For me it's love and hate. The hate bit is mixed in with the weirdness about the 60s era.

notnowbernard · 20/11/2010 21:34

But Paul McCartney won't let it lie, will he?

Pops up everywhere with that highly irritating peace sign

Oh please don't sully this alreday disturbing thread with the bloody Weddoes reference. I'm upset enough.

HaveToWearHeels · 20/11/2010 21:36

notnowbernard YANBU...I have never really got what all the fuss is about...I thought when I hit a certain age it would click, bit like olives...love olives now but still can't stand the Beatles.

retiredgoth2 · 20/11/2010 21:37

Given the merest hint of opportunity I sully any and all treads with Weddoes references.

saorachd · 20/11/2010 21:37

'Imagine' - The worst dirge ever.

YANBU

Rockbird · 20/11/2010 21:40

Fair enough SEA, but that doesn't mean we have to still listen to them :o Thank you very much Mr Beatles, now, off you pop.

PlanetEarth · 20/11/2010 21:41

Mostly I don't care much one way or the other, but as for "Hey Jude", songs don't get much better than that.

Sidge · 20/11/2010 21:43

YANBU.

I got utterly slated by a poster on a thread once after I said that I couldn't understand why The Beatles were such a big deal.

I mean, I know why they were socially and culturally a big deal, but the actual music is IMO nothing special.

retiredgoth2 · 20/11/2010 21:43

I think disliking the Beatles is simply wilful iconoclasm.

Now, I like to clast the odd icon as much as the next chap, but this one doesn't need, er, clasting.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 20/11/2010 21:44

The Beattles, as with many others before and after were compeltely overrated. .

southeastastra · 20/11/2010 21:45

overrated is just a stupid thing to say sorry

the beatles influenced american artists

like it or not

nameymcnamechange · 20/11/2010 21:46

Heh heh.

I guess its okay to really hate the Beatles.

But I do wonder who will still be remembered/listened to/downloaded and discussed in 10 years time - the Beatles or this year's X-Factor winner?

ZZZenAgain · 20/11/2010 21:47

I genuinely don't get why you are wrong if you don't like their music

Rockbird · 20/11/2010 21:52

They are overrated and this thread shows exactly why. It is a sin to say anything against them. If you do you either don't understand the history of pop music (which I do, thank you very much) or are a hopeless philistine. It was only a pop band. There was nothing special about them.

The drummer of my all time favourite band is a Beatles freak. He was always worn his hair like them, suits like them, skinny ties etc. And if it makes him a better drummer then fine, but it doesn't make me like them.

And you know, it's not a choice between the Beatles or x factor shite, that's pretty patronising.

daftpunk · 20/11/2010 21:52

You're not "wrong" - you just have no idea about music

I've actually gone off people I'd previously thought were ok because of this thread

Rockbird · 20/11/2010 21:53

And there I rest my case...

southeastastra · 20/11/2010 21:53

well you don't if you diss them sorry, it's just a fact Grin

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 21:54

The Beatles are amazing. My teenage crush to end all. It's easy enough to say that the Beatles or the Stones or whoever weren't worth the hype. But if you can't see that "You can't always get what you want" or "If I fell" that are amongst the most beautiful love songs ever then that's OK. Your loss Grin.

Hassled · 20/11/2010 21:54

ZZZen - it's not that I think you're wrong, it's just that I find it baffling. "Beatles music" is so indefinable - one song was not like another (Ok, maybe in the very early days) - it's like saying you don't like any music in a given decade. There's the same variation in the Beatles work that there is between Abba and Muse, say, or any other random pairing.
