I am so bloody mad! My Nan had a stroke last week, i went to see her today i thought telling the doctors who are looking after her that i have an hereditary thrombophilia, mutation that causes more blood clots, So i went to the nurses station.

The nurse said "hello can i help you?" i said "yes i would like to inform a doctor that i have a hereditary condition that causes blood clots, as my nan has just had a stroke

She sniggered at me!

Aibu to think she should be shot in the head for being such an idiot!!!!

No sorry i lost my cool, AIBU to think nurses should be professional and not laugh at people who are concerned for their relatives, especially when they are attempting to give them relevant medical background?!

The nurse said "hello can i help you?" i said "i would like to inform a doctor that i have a hereditary condition that causes blood clots, as my nan has just had a stroke"

Had you introduced yourself to the nurse as a relation of your grandmother?? Otherwise arriving at the nurse station and making the above announcement just makes you sound a bit strange.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 22:44

So what! i have got a condition given to me by someone in my family that my nan has displayed may be her! What is your point!

OP posts:
brimfull · 20/10/2010 22:47

I think you have other issues about this that are fuelling this anger .
Your stillborn child and anger at the treatment you got .
I hope you're nan makes a good recovery.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 22:47

They were not my exact words no! i said

"hello, i am Murial * granddaughter, she is with you after suffering a stroke, my grandfather has failed to tell you there is a genetic thrombophilia in our family, its type 2 gene mutation" She was already sniggering to herself, pathetically attempting to hide it. I carried on ignoring her pathetic display.

bigstripeytiger · 20/10/2010 22:47

If you didnt inform the nurse that you had a relative on the ward she might have thought that you were seeking help for yourself.

clemetteattlee · 20/10/2010 22:48

Are you sure she was a nurse? I only ask because I have been doing some agency work as a health care assistant (new name for auxilary nurse) and the range of attitudes I have seen amongst them has been eye-opening to say the least. What colour unifrom was she wearing?
I am not excusing her by any means, but expaining that you may have been talking to someone with almost no medical training at all!

bigstripeytiger · 20/10/2010 22:48

Sorry, cross posted.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 22:49

ggirl, no i tell you what has really got to me, i see thread upon thread of people on her being absolute cocks and no one says a word to them, i come on for a rant and i get attacked! that is why i am angry!

OP posts:
brimfull · 20/10/2010 22:51

aibu topic is notorious for it I'm afraid

bubbleOseven · 20/10/2010 22:52

This is the "am I being unreasonable" thread.

OnceUponA · 20/10/2010 22:52

I'm understanding this correctly aren't I- OP already has diagnosed condition which is herediatry. OPs Grandmother has had a stroke so OP was informing the hospital of her condition in case that was the cause of stroke.

I don't see the problem with what incrediblesulk did. Unless there is something I am totally missing.

DoraBelvedon · 20/10/2010 22:52

the point is that she may have been caring for a numer of other patients, within the same area, and didn't know you or your grandmother from madonna.
unless you specifically said to her. I am Mrs Sulk, My grandmother is Mrs Sulk-senior who is being treated for x, y and z. I'm wondering if you are aware that I have this condition, I understand it may afect her treatment if she is also affected.

otherwise what you said up there ^^ makes no sense at all. Sniggering is not entirely professional but erhaps she didn't know who you were or what you were talking about.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 22:52

clemetteattlee, she was in a white and blue striped uniform. I have no idea to be honest i hope so, that would be a good explanation.

OnceUponA yep! thats it all in a nut shell!

DoraBelvedon that is what i said, please see above post

clemetteattlee · 20/10/2010 22:55

I think different trusts have different colours. Here the blue and white stripey ones are the student nurses but it could well be that there it is the HCAs.

DoraBelvedon · 20/10/2010 22:55

OK strike what i just said.

still don't get what was funny at all. maybe she was doing something else.

But on the whole.

YANBU to be upset about your grandmother

YANBU to try to impart pertinent information

YANBU nurses should maintain a professional image

If you are absolutely sure she was sniggering at you complain in writing to the ward manager. but be very very sure that was what was happening.

ScaryFucker · 20/10/2010 22:55

AIBU to think she (the nurse) should be shot in the head for being such an idiot

I think it was that lovely statement that lost you your following, OP

TandB · 20/10/2010 22:56

ggirl - I am cringing reading your posts on this thread. Making a joke about the OP's condition, suggesting the OP has "issues" relating to losing a child, and then "oh well, it is AIBU". What? So all bets are off?
So it is OK to have a bit of a snigger over the clearly very upset and angry OP?
OP - I would write this thread off as a bad job and continue to do your best for your nan as you were clearly doing when you approached this nurse.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 22:56

Bubbleoseven, this is the only place i really post on here.

ggirl, i am normally not bothered, but today i just wanted a talk and a rant! should have stuck to wankmums, i mean netmums for this one!

OP posts:
Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 22:59

ScaryFucker well if no one has a sense of humor i cant be fucked with it all any way! did you read what i put after that bit?

"lost my cool there"

OP posts:
Theincrediblesulk1 · 20/10/2010 23:01

kungfupannda, i was not bothered by what she has been saying tbh!
but thanks for the pick me up chick! x

OP posts:
ScaryFucker · 20/10/2010 23:02

SOH ? was it meant to be a funny thread then ?

I must have missed that

btw, I am sorry about your nan

that is a given

but seeing hospital health workers as a soft target for abuse is something that, quite rightly, receives zero tolerance these days
