to think Mothercare are threatening MNHQ ?

cumfy · 04/10/2010 17:12

There is a current AIBU thread which originally had the title:

to be absolutely furious with c&&&ing mothercare?? (sanitized)

Within an hour or so after I emailled their PR dept highlighting the poor customer service detailled therein, the thread title was changed to:

to be absolutely furious with &&&&&&& mothercare??

My interpretation is that Mothercare tried to get the thread pulled, but instead MNHQ agreed to amend the title
Coincidence:o

Note there are many <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/+intitle:cunting&num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=opera&hs=EvS&rls=en-GB&prmd=v&filter=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">AIBU threads with cunting still in the title; so seems unlikely this was simply a "language" issue.

MN may have changed it after complaints?

DanceInTheDark · 04/10/2010 17:14

(hoe do you do that mail to thing?!)

2shoes · 04/10/2010 17:14

what ever the reason, glad to hear it,

scurryfunge · 04/10/2010 17:16

It would be prudent to change the title surely if it offended. Gives the thread more publicity though so it won't harm your argument.

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 17:17

MNHQ was right to change the title. C*ing is an awful word.

Fluffypoms · 04/10/2010 17:19

Glad you noticed that too.
thought i was imaging things Smile

tethersend · 04/10/2010 17:20

What a bunch of cunts.

eugh swearing like that makes me think one is fick. thick and inarticulate

more likely a mn didnt like the post and complained than big bad corporate mothercare

I hate that word,it makes me think the op is being unreasonable whatever they are asking.
It's equally as horrible whether it comes out of the mouth of a male or female.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/10/2010 17:29

Grin It could be possible I suppose. MNHQ would of removed it sharpish if Mothercare had been made aware of it by your email and took offense. MNHQ dont want another GF-type scandal now do they!

cumfy · 04/10/2010 17:32

MNHQ dont want another GF-type scandal

Please elaborate ABF :).

I don't think it would look too good for MN impartiality if they allowed themselves to be pushed around by retaillers.

OP posts:
proudnglad · 04/10/2010 17:34

I agree with Scottishmummy. I didn't like the 'cunting' but didn't comment as would not want to thwart posters' freedom of expression!!!!!!

(Fwiw I don't mind the odd 'cunt', so to speak, within posts, but in the title, makes me twitchy)

TrillianAstra · 04/10/2010 17:36

Conspiracy theory much? More lkely someone complained about that thread title because it popped up a lot more often than others. So MNHQ changed the title that had been complained about. People are not consistent.

scottishmummy · 04/10/2010 17:37

dont seek to curtail anyone ire, just wince when i see it

taintedpaint · 04/10/2010 17:37

Since Mothercare are almost certainly monitoring us now, might I suggest they revise their customer service policy rather than worrying about language on a website? I will be avoiding Mothercare until something is done and if any of my pregnant/mum friends happen to mention Mothercare to be, I will be advising them to do the same.

I am not advising them to avoid MN because of the 'c' word.

Hmm
taintedpaint · 04/10/2010 17:38

to be me, sorry

scottishmummy · 04/10/2010 17:47

you think mothercare "monitor" mn?why.

catherinewho · 04/10/2010 19:03

Most threads with that word in the title are unlikely to be that easy to come across by accident for example by googling.

JustineMumsnet · 05/10/2010 17:45

Hi cumfy - Mothercare did contact us and ask us very nicely if we'd mind amending it. We thought it would be rude not to do so.
(Nothing sinister though)

Cheers

GetOrfMoiLand · 05/10/2010 17:48

I love cunting in thread titles, I would never in a million years use the word out loud but to read it makes me laugh. CUNTING SAINSBURYS (have to have it in caps) was one of my best thread titles ever.

Yes I have the IQ of a ten year old.

GetOrfMoiLand · 05/10/2010 17:50

PLEASE don't let this thread run to 800s posts of X Files consipracy theories/'OMG Justine will sell MN to Nestle next' because MNHQ took cunting out of a thread title.

RubberDuck · 05/10/2010 17:55

ARGH please don't go this route.

One of the reasons I fucking love Mumsnet is that we can all be grownups and swear (okay, okay, be incredibly childish and swear Grin)

It's one of the few uncensored message boards on the internet.

And now Ocado thread has been censored too?

scottishmummy · 05/10/2010 22:02

am uneasy that corporate biggie asserts pressure and mn acquiesces. simeone should be allowed to express ire and subjective pov

dont esp like word cunting, would use it myself.but dont like corporate bullying of mn
