to think Mothercare are threatening MNHQ ?

cumfy · 04/10/2010 17:12

There is a current AIBU thread which originally had the title:

to be absolutely furious with c&&&ing mothercare?? (sanitized)

Within an hour or so after I emailled their PR dept highlighting the poor customer service detailled therein, the thread title was changed to:

to be absolutely furious with &&&&&&& mothercare??

My interpretation is that Mothercare tried to get the thread pulled, but instead MNHQ agreed to amend the title
Coincidence:o

Note there are many <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/+intitle:cunting&num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=opera&hs=EvS&rls=en-GB&prmd=v&filter=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">AIBU threads with cunting still in the title; so seems unlikely this was simply a "language" issue.

Plus, there's a thread on Active Conversations about the Durham meet up with lots of stars in front.

I'm now reading it as Cunting Durham every time I see it now and I'm fairly certain that isn't one of the censored threads Grin

Stretch · 06/10/2010 10:17

Aaaah, thanks Rubber!

vbusymum1 · 06/10/2010 10:24

Oh, and if I google "Mothercare" and "mumsnet" together the thread still shows up with "*" in the title anyway.

Someone will much more knowledge of search engines will know why but at least for now nothing's changed (I'm guessing it will change over after a period of time)

RubberDuck · 06/10/2010 10:26

HAHA yes, the cunting is still in the URL so it'll still rank high in search engines.

Grin
lowrib · 06/10/2010 10:28

Hiya catinthehat2 and RubberDuck it's Lowri B, but I know people read it as low rib.

It's the username I use for signing up to websites like ebay or whatever as it's usually available. When I signed up for mumsnet I didn't give it much thought as I was only coming on here to ask a couple of questions about pregnancy, I wasn't going to hang around so I didn't think it really mattered. Ha ha! Never underestimate the addictive power of mumsnet! Grin

I keep thinking I should change it but haven't got round to it.

I did actually have a dream that my mumsnet name was twofeethighandrising (if that's not a sign of addiction I don't know what is!) - and it would change to threefeet highandrising as DS got bigger. I think that's a pretty good name actually. But when I mentioned it here someone else said they used 3feethighandrising before.
I'm not sure if they still use it or what the etiquette is on using a name very similar to someone else's.
OK if they don't actually use it anymore maybe?

I also dreamt I was called "motherofallhangovers" in the same dream!

Oh dear, think I may be spending a bit too much time here Grin

Anyone on Twitter?

If this thread gets retweeted enough perhaps someone at Mothercare HQ will actually deal with the complaint.

lowrib · 06/10/2010 10:31

Nice one RubberDuck. I'm not on Twitter, but I'm thinking perhaps today is a good day to sign up!

edam · 06/10/2010 10:39

Justine please make sure Mothercare actually deal with the real issue. THEY have broken the law. It's appalling that they are more worried about swearing than putting the situation right and living up to their very basic, simple and well-established legal duties.

catinthehat2 · 06/10/2010 10:45

Smile @ Lowri

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/10/2010 10:52

I always that that lowrib was some kind of vague reference to Spare Rib!

lowrib · 06/10/2010 11:00

Sugar I've blown my cover! It did cross my mind that people might think it was a clever bible reference (like Spare Rib). But sadly not I'm afraid!

lowrib · 06/10/2010 11:05

I've joined Twitter and have retweeted. Nest task - work out how to get a few twitter followers else I'm just shouting into the abyss!

lowrib · 06/10/2010 11:06

I mean next. Doh.

RubberDuck · 06/10/2010 11:12

doesn't matter lowrib - all of them will show on @mothercareuk's 'replies' tab which anyone can see (additional bad publicity).

And they do to pay attention and reply to customers on Twitter, so hopefully this should get the attention Lacy needs to actually get a refund (though how daft that there needs to be a mini campaign just to sort a relatively straight-forward customer service issue when the company is clearly breaking the law)

DanceInTheDark · 06/10/2010 11:39

I don't like cunting in thread titles. Not because its a horrible world (and it is) but because its pretty boring now....kind of like yawn there is another one.

Do i think MN should have changed it? Well yes because its polite and MC asked but still makes me avoid them because they care more about what comes up on google than their customers.

ILovePonyo · 06/10/2010 11:50

Is anyone else really put off shopping at Mothercare after reading a few threads on here recently?

I certainly am, after seeing the c mothercare thread and the Worst Shopping experiences name and shame thread this week, plus others about bad customer service in the past.

We drove past local Mothercare the other day, dp said something like "we'll be in there soon" (baby due in Feb), I told him we probably wouldn't and regaled him with mn stories. He was a mix of Hmm and Confused

ILovePonyo · 06/10/2010 11:51

I don't know why I used **. The word cunting doesn't really bother me.

cumfy · 06/10/2010 12:01

Bizarrely it would appear that MC have already hired a An Award-Winning PR & Social Media Consultancy, who one might anticipate from their brief to be handling all this.

These are obviously very clever people who say:

Our campaign will .. look to develop a positive narrative for Mothercare in these important parenting blogs, forums and social network groups

and that,

Key objectives will be to use social media to emphasise Mothercares expertise and heritage in the baby and parenting space

recognising that,

Brands like Mothercare must take an integrated approach to their communication campaigns to achieve meaningful message cut-through

Seems to be going down a treat, just completely under my radar Hmm. :o :o

How much are MC paying www.diffusionpr.com ? :o

RubberDuck · 06/10/2010 12:11

Clearly too much Grin

cumfy · 06/10/2010 12:35

I did try to contact Ivan via his blog, but it appears to have

Hi Ivan,

How's the message cut-through coming along in parenting space ?

Can't see any posts there, from your "Mothercare" account trying to diffuse the situation.

Perhaps you are developing a more subtle approach to protecting MC's heritage ?

Lenin - if that's a guideline its either not very well known or not very well enforced Smile

RubberDuck · 06/10/2010 13:16

Guidelines don't specifically mention titles that I can see?

" Swearwords and offensive language
It's not our policy to delete swearwords (we are all adults, after all) but we do draw the line at obscenity and wording that is truly beyond the pale, so, if you're not sure which side of that line your swearword of choice may fall, it might be best not to use it.
We also have an extremely low tolerance for words that are offensive to those with physical or mental disabilities."

Hello
Just to clear this up, the last time we discussed this with y'all the consensus was that while we do allow the c word it's perhaps OTT in thread titles
