to think Mothercare are threatening MNHQ ?

There is a current AIBU thread which originally had the title:

to be absolutely furious with c&&&ing mothercare?? (sanitized)

Within an hour or so after I emailled their PR dept highlighting the poor customer service detailled therein, the thread title was changed to:

to be absolutely furious with &&&&&&& mothercare??

My interpretation is that Mothercare tried to get the thread pulled, but instead MNHQ agreed to amend the title
Coincidence:o

Note there are many <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/+intitle:cunting&num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=opera&hs=EvS&rls=en-GB&prmd=v&filter=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">AIBU threads with cunting still in the title; so seems unlikely this was simply a "language" issue.

Hi cumfy - Mothercare did contact us and ask us very nicely if we'd mind amending it. We thought it would be rude not to do so.
(Nothing sinister though)

Cheers

@cumfy

I think the principal issue is defamation.

In the eyes of the law MN is seen as a publisher, with ultimate power to edit content.

Basically, MC just need to whisper "defamation" and MN will have to capitulate or face messy law suit and legal bill.

My point is, it does seem likely (IMHO), that Clare Francis (MC) did in fact whisper this word to MNHQ.

No she didn't, honest. No threats, no pressure, no intimidation. Just a polite request as to whether we would mind removing the C word as it was coming up in Google in juxtaposition to their brand. To be honest we would feel v unreasonable were we not to comply. Cunting Sainsburys never got changed because they never asked! We did, of course, suggest they address the particular concerns raised by the thread in question.

@eventide

Do Mothercare pay to advertise on MN by any chance?.......

No

JustineMumsnet · 06/10/2010 08:08

@cumfy

Did Clare indicate whether they would look at the case ?

Am sure they would have but I'll check - I didn't speak to her.

@RubberDuck

Justine: can you please comment about the Ocado thread?

Pretty much the same thing happened with Ocado - they asked if we'd mind altering the title. Call us old-fashioned but would seem very impolite to not comply.

Hello
Just to clear this up, the last time we discussed this with y'all the consensus was that while we do allow the c word it's perhaps OTT in thread titles

HTH

BelieveinLife - can only reiterate that no double standards were intended. More a case of different strokes for folks - it was a jokey thread about fruitarians, no?

Danceinthedark - good point. And it does feel a bit like the longest preg EVER but yes this is DC2 Grin

Hi edam and all: just to let you know we have been in touch with Mothercare and are just waiting for them to come back to us with a response to this...

GeraldineMumsnet · 07/10/2010 16:20

Hello, we were asked to post up this statement from Mothercare on the AIBU thread, so thought it might be useful here too.

"Mothercare prides itself on the service it offers to customers, but in the case of LacyLeggins we have not met those standards, for which we apologise.

"We have contacted LacyLeggins directly to deal with her complaint and rectify the issue."
