to think Mothercare are threatening MNHQ ?

cumfy · 04/10/2010 17:12

There is a current AIBU thread which originally had the title:

to be absolutely furious with c&&&ing mothercare?? (sanitized)

Within an hour or so after I emailled their PR dept highlighting the poor customer service detailled therein, the thread title was changed to:

to be absolutely furious with &&&&&&& mothercare??

My interpretation is that Mothercare tried to get the thread pulled, but instead MNHQ agreed to amend the title
Coincidence:o

Note there are many <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/+intitle:cunting&num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=opera&hs=EvS&rls=en-GB&prmd=v&filter=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">AIBU threads with cunting still in the title; so seems unlikely this was simply a "language" issue.

Still no clarification on whether Mothercare has actually dealt suitably with the complaint. Disappointing.

FWIW Mothercare, while you're reading, I don't shop in your shops because they are messy, dirty and the staff are often rude. The shops never have what I want in stock either, so I go to John Lewis instead...

BelieveInLife · 06/10/2010 13:57

So when I complained the other day MNHQ about the use of the C-word in a thread title - why did you reply telling me you don't censor swearing and some members use of language is "agricultural"?....

But if Mothercare find the C-word in a title offensive you remove it...

double standards or what?!?!

cumfy · 06/10/2010 14:08

Ahh Believe, but was it:

Juxtaposing your brand ? :o

MNHQ:
No threats, no pressure, no intimidation. Just a polite request as to whether we would mind removing the C word as it was coming up in Google in juxtaposition to their brand.

One more thing while Mothercare are reading. I am past the stage where I need to shop there, but for future customers, it would be nice if they had enough staff, especially in the larger stores. You are lucky if you can find 2 people on the shop floor. On a busy saturday, it makes shopping a PITA. Many is the time, I've thought bugger this and gone somewhere else.

BossIsWatchingNow · 06/10/2010 15:11

Dammit whoever got Mothercare watching us, I'll have to watch what I say when under my normal posting name, no more moaning about my job! Wink

DanceInTheDark · 06/10/2010 16:36

Olivia - that was nearly 3 years ago. Half of the ppl on this thread had probably not even conceived then Wink

(did i hear right and you are pg? is it the longest pregnancy in the world or number 2 already?!)

Casserole · 06/10/2010 17:21

So if we all type cunting mothercare in messages within the thread itself, it's ok, just not the titles? Grin

And will it still show up in the search engines? Grin

TBH I don't know anyone who shops in there unless they have to anyway. Customer service is always appalling, any feeding facilities filthy, stock low, assistants rude, equipment faulty...

... Cunting mothercare Grin

IMO there are two types of business.

  1. Those that are actually really good at doing something, and make money out of it because they're good at it.
  1. Those that just solely in it for the money, and really couldn't care less whether they're selling you pushchairs or ready meals, it's simply about profit margins / making money out of you.

Mothercare are the second sort.

OliviaMumsnet · 06/10/2010 18:35

BelieveinLife - can only reiterate that no double standards were intended. More a case of different strokes for folks - it was a jokey thread about fruitarians, no?

Danceinthedark - good point. And it does feel a bit like the longest preg EVER but yes this is DC2 Grin

BelieveInLife · 06/10/2010 19:45

No 'twas not a jokey thread, nor a thread about fruitarians - was one of many other thread titles using the c word. Whether jokey or not it is offensive to some people and you either need to ban it completely or have the same "we allow agricultural language" stance for everyone...

ZENZIZENZIZENZIC · 06/10/2010 20:06

He he SGM, not even close?

edam · 06/10/2010 22:30

Olivia I notice everyone at MNHQ is carefully avoiding the important point here - HAS Mothercare done anything to obey their legal responsibilities? Are they going to put the situation right?

Hi edam and all: just to let you know we have been in touch with Mothercare and are just waiting for them to come back to us with a response to this...

vbusymum1 · 07/10/2010 13:51

So Helen, despite you at MNHQ doing what they asked instantly they can't even be bothered to get back to you?

What a sorry bunch they must be, they're confirming all the negative things that people are saying about them

wonka · 07/10/2010 14:33

I say reinstate the cunting if you get a poor response!

wonka · 07/10/2010 14:34

Uhh I never use that word... feel a little soiled!

theskiinggardener · 07/10/2010 14:46

I love it! Now I need a situation to which " reinstate the cunting" is a suitable response

Oh, and hate cunting mothercare, example of how to run a business down.

GeraldineMumsnet · 07/10/2010 16:20

Hello, we were asked to post up this statement from Mothercare on the AIBU thread, so thought it might be useful here too.

"Mothercare prides itself on the service it offers to customers, but in the case of LacyLeggins we have not met those standards, for which we apologise.

"We have contacted LacyLeggins directly to deal with her complaint and rectify the issue."

ChippingIn · 07/10/2010 16:33

Funniest thing on this thread so far....

Mothercare prides itself on the service it offers to customers

REALLY???

It prides itself on completely shit service, dirty shops, rubbish staff (not all, but most), closing down bf facilities.... I could go on, but we all know how crap they are - why don't they???

MOTHERCARE try reading the thread - is this the service you are priding yourselves on??

vbusymum1 · 07/10/2010 17:09

Why do big companies never learn ?

It would seem to be Mothercare policy to provide rubbish customer service, do nothing to sort it out until horror of horrors someone calls them cunting.

If only this was a story that could be used by Watchdog or other consumer outlets to illustrate the power of a disgruntled customer and a bunch of women with nothing better to do than natter online.

Note that they haven't actually sorted out the issue (let's bear in mind that calling LL for her address and couriering a new pram could be done in a matter of hours). Oh no, this thread is in its 4th day and they haven't sorted out anything.

What a shower, I won't be shopping there again.
