MN is quite happy to let innacurate thread titles be posted that could promote discrimination against disabled children and their famillies

BuzzingNoise · 24/08/2010 16:13

I can't say I have noticed.

loopyloops · 24/08/2010 16:13

??? Is it the ADHD/AS one?

hairytriangle · 24/08/2010 16:13

'says' not "say's" Wink

sorrento56 · 24/08/2010 16:14

Examples?

scurryfunge · 24/08/2010 16:16

What are you talking about? Explain please.

wasuup3000 · 24/08/2010 16:17

Yes the ADHD one and thanks hairy, also the swimming pool one.

OP posts:
katkouta · 24/08/2010 16:17

erm YABU! .....I dont know!...what? Confused

ShadeofViolet · 24/08/2010 16:17

What are you talking about?

sloanypony · 24/08/2010 16:18

If you are talking about the "to think ADHD is a load of nonsense" one, that is not inaccurate, as the OP does think it is a load of nonsense, which they are entitled to do.

Mumsnet are also happy to have thread titles "MN is rubbish" therefore at least they are consistent?

YABU unless you can come up with some specific examples...

sloanypony · 24/08/2010 16:19

Seeing as most thread titles on this board are worded as questions, how can they be "inaccurate"? Please do answer.

doggiesayswoof · 24/08/2010 16:19

MN isn't moderated, which is one of its many attractions.

If you think a thread should be deleted, then you report it by clicking on the "report" button on one of the posts within the thread.

HTH

scurryfunge · 24/08/2010 16:19

It is someone's opinion in the title and although I haven't read the thread I can't imagine that many would agree with their opinion.

Glitterknickaz · 24/08/2010 16:20

I'd say it's more "mumsnet is happy to silently condone disablist threads" personally as it's not generally the titles but the thread content itself....

sloanypony · 24/08/2010 16:20

I think its moderated, but its not censored or sanitised.

Stops it being too fluffy. There are pros and cons of non-fluffy, I guess you have encountered one of the cons?

I find it worrying that numerous people do agree with their unreasonable opinions, and that often the people who speak out against them are the parents of children with special needs - often with little backup.

YABU with regards the swimming pool one. Neither the title nor the OP was in any way discriminating against children with SN.
The OP didn't even know the child in question has SN and as the thread turned out many posters would rather takes their NT 10yr olds into the changing rooms with them. I think the fact that the child in the OP had SN was irrelevant to the discussion TBH.

Though, of course, each institution should provide disbled changing facilities and adequate family changing facilities to counter this.

NamedAfterTheBandActually · 24/08/2010 16:26

AIBU to think that the moon is made of cheese?

Well no, I can think what I want. It marks me out as thick but allowing me to post such a thread title, doesn't mean that Justine and Olivia are on their way to NASA dressed as Wallace and Gromit and waving a placard covered in brie.

Ignorant attitudes are better tackled with truth than swept under the carpet.

Giddyup · 24/08/2010 16:28

I think the vast majority of posters are able to see when some wanker posts complete wankery and not let that change their view.

When aforementioned wankers post disabalist or whatever other rubbish they are ripped to shreds by posters far more informed, intelligent, and eloquent than themselves anyway.

Glitterknickaz · 24/08/2010 16:28

Absolutely.
From memory, the opinions I can think of that have been expressed on here are (and I paraphrase):

Continence products for the disabled should be provided by charity - after all why should the disabled be given any dignity?

Disabled people should get changed in the toilet (niiiice given that lots of them have stinky nappy bins in them)

Certain mental disabilities are entirely ficticious

The disabled rake it in and get 'perks' and stuff for free, how very dare they....

I sometimes wonder if people realise that people with disabilities are actually human beings? Phrase any of the above with a race, sexual orientation or religious bias and it'd be deleted and/or the poster would get a ban!

WHY is it condoned around here?

Jabbathehun · 24/08/2010 16:30

Sloany said it really well.

Haven't read the AD thread (knew it would kick off) but would hope/assume that the many articulate and well informed posters who have direct experience of SN were able to "answer" the OP and hopefully convince anyone who might have agreed with the OP?

ShadeofViolet · 24/08/2010 16:31

Now I understand

YANBU.
