If my OP on the ADHD thread caused initial offence then that was unfortunate.
However, I hold to everything I later wrote, all of which was perfectly lucid and rational, irrespective of whether individuals agreed with my opinions or not.
I repeat that while many children today exhibit severe behavioural problems I don't consider that ADHD is a valid disorder. Some of the reasons cited by clinicians e.g. genetic or biochemical imbalances, are highly dubious, and the medical evidence to support such claims has yet to be adequately demonstrated.
There are psychological, cultural and environmental factors that should be considered first. Rushing to diagnose a child with ADHD, is, to my mind, too easy.
As a contributor on that thread remarked, in today's society it is much easier (and cheaper) to administer pills than seek more expensive and time consuming solutions.
Although many who responded to my thread informed me that their child was not receiving medication, it nonetheless remains a fact that large numbers of children and young people are being administered with these powerful psychotropic drugs, the long-term effects of which are, as yet, unknown.
