The worlds most boring hen do ever....AIBU to pull out?

The highlights of the aforementioned hen do involve cupcake baking...and wait for it..a country walk with a treasure hunt. There are far more 'treats' along these lines involved, but dont want to post too much incase another attendee is a fellow mnetter.

My background? I have DC's, I bake cupcakes every bloody week. We are grown adults FGS, why would I want to spend a morning on a walk doing a treasure hunt? It is without a doubt the most boring weekend I have been invited away on?

I think that if I am going to be away for a weekend from my family, then it should be for something I enjoy. Whilst I accept that the bride comes first on the big day...I dont think the same courtesy extends to the hen party. The hen is not a close friend and based on that; I am 99% sure that I am going to back out. AIBU?

(Oh and no monies have been committed by anyone yet)

Well I'm a mum and would chose cupcakes over salsa. I haven't had a full night's sleep in over 11 years why would I want to stay up dancing with a bunch of shrieking women?

. I like your hen dos...

whomoved - I would be unreasonable if I sent this thread to the bride to be...AIBU wouldn't exist if people didn't post stuff like this on here. So I totally do not accept that I am out of order for putting it on here. I have actually remained deliberately vague about a lot of the details, so even if on the small offchance that another attendee sees this, it would be highly unlikely that she would see this.

Look - it is not my cup of tea one bit. But I am going. And I am going to be the life and soul of the party and bake my pretty (darned) socks off. I am actually leaving home early, and doing some stuff that i enjoy en route.

You're going now? I thought you'd decided against it.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 25/07/2010 20:37

Severely disabled child. Younger 2 sleep fine.

I did have a full night's sleep 2 weeks ago as I was at a conference. Had to get up at 7am though.

Drank - but no post midnight salsa dancing.

Post @ 15.25 this afternoon. I didn't just start this thread to get people supporting me. I posted to get opinions. Have mulled it over. And agree with what some people have said. And I absolutely promise no cats bum face at any point.

I'll be there as soon as I've sorted my lint collection.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 25/07/2010 20:46

Sounds good expat.

I don't think it's just lack of sleep tbh - I quite enjoyed clubbing when I was 18 (and clubs shut at 2am). That was in the 1980's. Been on few clubbing type hen nights since but they're not really my scene - and they weren't pre kids. Don't think there's anything wrong with it - just not for me.

expatinscotland · 25/07/2010 20:52

I'll bring my Joan Baez albums, hot cocoa and chocolate truffles.

Anyone want to bring their musical instruments? We can all sing Kumbaya.

LetThereBeRock · 25/07/2010 20:55

I'll bring my kazoo.

Won't the hairy-legged ones be those who have to head for the beauty treatments?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 25/07/2010 21:01

s'mores

expatinscotland · 25/07/2010 21:02

I do my own Brazilians. I've been doing them or having them done long before they were common outside of Brazil.

There's not much hair on my body .

Just don't fancy 'glammed up' and I'd rather have a barium enema than go to a salsa club.

TrillianAstra · 25/07/2010 21:24

Is barium enema on LeQ's list of beauty treatments?

whomovedmychocolate · 25/07/2010 22:45

The only brazilians going on at my hen do are the Just Brazil dark type

mistletoekisses you may be being vague but unless cupcake making was a euphemism, I dare say there are only a few hen events with this coming up.

There's something about weddings that brings out the worst in us all I think. Everyone gets so bloody arsey about them!

I do think it's rude to slate someone else's carefully thought out event to which you've been kindly invited. I can understand that it's not your cup of tea, but it's like sitting in the aisle muttering 'wow that dress is just gross' to your mates, you might think it, you don't say it. As there's always the risk the bride will hear and you will really upset her. And it makes you appear not very nice to want to take that risk.

And you did ask for views by putting this is AIBU. So ner ner! If it helps I think you are just sounding off and are probably more frustrated with a stagnant friendship than being horrible.
