to think excess baggage charges are insane when you look at the size of some passengers?!?!?

Am sure I'll be flamed for this but......

I was charged for 1kg of excess baggage the other day. 1 fucking Kilo!! Isn't it about time airlines started weighing passengers and their luggage together and then charging excess weight rather than jusy excess baggage?!?!?

They should also monitor the air they breathe and charge accordingly- some people use more than others.

scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 12:36

Yeah fat people should walk to their holiday destination.

I'm sure they would if they could, but they are still subscribing to the "all humans are created equal" vibe.

Pity you don't!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/07/2010 12:39

I completely agree with the OP - airlines should weigh passengers and luggage together, and charge accordingly

Sammyuni · 16/07/2010 12:41

So basically people overweight will be charged more?

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 12:44

Yup - or take less luggage.

Soapsy · 16/07/2010 12:45

I have had this thought myself before! But, as I am distinctly under average weight, I wouldn't be able to carry the extra baggage to make it up to the full me + bags allowance.

Not sure how you'd allow for someone of 6'8" but the correct weight for height, compared to someone of 5'8" and grossly obese (other than they might be so big they have to pay for two seats anyway).

scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 12:45

What about tall people who take up too much space? Or small people could have 2 for the price of one? maybe children could be stored in the overhead lockers?

cory · 16/07/2010 12:45

Just heard a fascinating lecture about a shipwreck off the Norwegian post in the 1400s: after a few weeks at sea in the lifeboat the survivors started arguing about who was producing most urine as that was all they had to drink. But then they were in a pretty dire state: I don't think having to pay for a kilo overweight quite excuses this mean spirited attitude.

FindingMyMojo · 16/07/2010 12:46

I'm puzzled as to how YOU going over YOUR luggage allowance is somehow the fault of overweight people? Luggage allowances have nothing to do with what people weigh. Its so they don't get 150 passengers turning up with 100 kilos each, PLUS nowdays it's used as a reason to squeeze a few more quid out of passengers.

Frankly if you can't charm your way out of paying for the one kilo (I can imagine how that would be dreadfully difficult for you) then pay it. Why blame other people?

scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 12:47

You should have just chopped your leg off at the gate, problem solved.

OrmRenewed · 16/07/2010 12:49

Nice .

Oh just put on some weight and then you won't feel cheated.

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 12:50

I'm not blaming other people for me going overweight on my luggage. I just don't see why my combined luggage and body weight of 76Kgs should incur a fine when a lot of passengers are over this without their luggage?!?!?

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 16/07/2010 12:51

Well, because they have no choice about leaving some of their weight at home. Presumably you do.

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 12:53

really OrmRenewed? I've been overweight and lost it. It's not that bloody hard!

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 16/07/2010 12:53

Yes but not in time for baggage weigh-in.

tethersend · 16/07/2010 12:53

How do you see this affecting pregnant people? Technically, they constitute two people...

scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 12:55

Long haired people are also taking the piss.

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/07/2010 12:56

Christ don't give O'Leary ideas.

OrmRenewed · 16/07/2010 12:56

And my legs are just too long.

Good thing I rarely fly

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 12:58

I also have long legs but I'm not really sure how this impacts the weight allowance?!??

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 13:00

Cut your fingernails and toe nails at the gate.

Run round the airport three times wearing a bin liner before you check in.

Have a massive poo before you check in.

Replace any fillings with lightweight plastic travel ones.

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/07/2010 13:02

I am 6 foot. Does that mean i should pay more than shortarses?

GeekOfTheWeek · 16/07/2010 13:02

By doing that it wouldn't just be fat people that got charged more, but tall slim people too.

I know, we could just stop those above 5'2" from travelling by air. Surely their legs will be long enough to walk and swin
