to think excess baggage charges are insane when you look at the size of some passengers?!?!?

Am sure I'll be flamed for this but......

I was charged for 1kg of excess baggage the other day. 1 fucking Kilo!! Isn't it about time airlines started weighing passengers and their luggage together and then charging excess weight rather than jusy excess baggage?!?!?

National average size 16 which cannot be true if average weight is 65kg.

Unless the average height is 150cm.

mayorquimby · 16/07/2010 13:21

Maybe just make sure your luggage is with in the allowed weight next time. You know what your allowance is before you get to the airport.

pranma · 16/07/2010 13:23

Which airline actually charged for just one kilo excess? Most are usually flexible up to 3.we weigh our baggage at home-its easy to fit a couple of kilos into hand luggage.I am trying hard to lose weight, have managed 2 stones so far-so I cant have a visit to my son and family unless I pay a surcharge?[I weigh 12.5 stones].

scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 13:23

toccatanfudge, you are so light, you don't need a plane

I don't understand how people end up over the luggage allowance anyhow, especially on international flights where it's usually slight bigger.

We went to Zim 4yrs ago, took 2 huge suitcases > one of them almost stuff to the brim with gifts for family members was for 3 weeks with one child in nappies (and we had to take the 3 weeks worrth of nappies with us). We were under the baggage allowance........

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 13:25

fair point Sapphireblue - evidently in my airtravel masterplan there would meed to be exceptions to the rule

Rockbird · 16/07/2010 13:26

Fantastic. As wherever I fly my 2yo dd flies with me and pays full fare that means I have a whole other person worth of weight for my arse. Perfect.

But to bastardise a Churchill quote somewhat, I could lose weight but you will always have personality issues...

toccatanfudge · 16/07/2010 13:27

what about women who are pregnant, or have recentl had a baby and so have put on weight due to the - do they get excused as well????

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 13:27

how do I have personality issues for that comment?!?!? don'e be so damn sensetive!

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 13:28

What if your obesity was due to too many airline meals as a frequent flier?

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 13:29

toccatanfudge - how about all the family getting on the scales together with their luggage and babies (inside or out) counting as an extra person?!?!?!

OP posts:
JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 13:30

LMAO at the thought of anybody actually eating too many airline meals. You evidently travel on a better class of airline then me, they're usually vile!!

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 16/07/2010 13:32

Good point

toccatanfudge · 16/07/2010 13:33

noooooooooo - that's not fair - DS3 is off the top of the centile at over 15kg and over a metre tall at just turned 3..........then I'd lose all my baggage allowance because I have strapping lads

That's only fair (re pg/previously had a baby) if it' a celebrity who gets back into their size 6's 2 weeks after giving birth - the rest of us usually have excess weight to shift

gorionine · 16/07/2010 13:34

"I'm not blaming other people for me going overweight on my luggage. I just don't see why my combined luggage and body weight of 76Kgs should incur a fine when a lot of passengers are over this without their luggage?!?!?"

I hope they will do it OP, but that they will start charging passengers over 65 kg combined body weight-Baggage so you will still have 10 kg excess to pay!

Ditto findingMymojo!

Curiousmama · 16/07/2010 13:34

Maybe they should put skinnies in the hold sitting on their cases and make bigger seats for the growing masses?

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 13:37

Nope - I'd have extra for my case. Average weight 65+20 for luggage = 85kgs - more space for shoes for me. Happy days!!

OP posts:
tethersend · 16/07/2010 13:38

What if I climbed into my case?

gorionine · 16/07/2010 13:41

Didn't you say combined weight of 76 kg?

I said combined weight of 65kg.

JustShaggingForNow · 16/07/2010 14:01

Ummmm. I said the average weight of a British woman was 65kg and that they should allow 20kg for luggage = 85kg. A combined weight of 65kg would be just silly!!! We'd all be going away on holiday with one outfit!

and this is nothing like a good bit of Friday afternoon debate!

FindingMyMojo · 16/07/2010 14:28

OP - this is "a good bit of Friday debate"? And you wonder why others here think you have personality issues?
