I don't bloody want lasagne

woofywoof · Yesterday 14:14

Due to things going on at the moment for me, I am in a foul/sad/unhappy/miserable mood today. I am due to go to my friends house tonight, but:

  1. she is making lasagne. I don't want bloody lasagne - no dinner put in front of me right now will cheer me up, I want dinner but couldn't tell you what I would want .. if anything
  2. she has told me her 2 teen DD will be there for dinner too. No disrespect to her DDs, they are lovely, but I can just as well sit at home with my DDs and have dinner, which I might as well do if her DD will be with us ? why would I want to sit with her DDs when I can play happy families at home with mine? no malice or sarcasm intended by that

I probably sound ungrateful for her inviting me and offering dinner. Imo, my friend just wants the adult conversation/company, rather than spend the eve with her just her DDs who just sit on their phones all eve, if not in their rooms - but that is not my problem.

You sound like a miserable cow. I wouldn't want you in my house.

As an side, I think it is weird to invite me over to have dinner around the table, with her family .. maybe that is just me though, but why would anyone do that ??

But surely this is absolutely normal — if I invite anyone for a meal it won’t be just me and them, DH and DS (grown up) would be there too. I’m not cooking twice!

whatanuglythingtosay · Yesterday 19:12

She wanted company. Isn't that why anyone ever invites anyone over? You aren't in the mood, so just tell her you're too tired/whatever tonight to do anything but crash at home.

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 19:18

Omg . While I agree having teens at the table rather alters the dynamic but are they going to be with you all evening? Where else would her kids be?
As for not wanting lasagna - that’s totally your problem. She is cooking dinner and can cook what she wants.

SquirrelGG · Yesterday 19:21

You do sound hard work. Your friend has done a nice thing in asking you for dinner and all you can do is complain about the food and her DDs, who probably will only be in the room for the meal anyway by the sound of it.

You actually don't sound like much of a friend, so I would cancel if I were you. She deserves better.

It's not normal to be horrible about someone who is supposed to be a friend. A natural 'down' would be:

'I'm in a really bad mood/unhappy and really don't fancy lasagne or having to deal with her daughter', not making a post that positions the friend as having done something wrong or substandard - cooked the wrong dinner, had the audacity to have invited her when her child would be there, wanting some company. That's what abusive people do: take their foul mood out on others and make it sound like they're the problem.

She absolutely said she was in a horrible foul mood and nothing will satisfy her, its a chat forum, in chat, its not meant to be taken literally like she thinks her mate is awful

She's having a vent and a down miserable day and finding fault with everything. On an anonymous forum.

wow … you sound lovely! Glad you’re not my friend.

pointless comment, then

Well, you're just determined to excuse OP for some reason.

I really do not think this reaction is normal about someone who's been nothing but nice to you.

I’d be happy if someone cooked anything for me!

SnowFrogJelly · Yesterday 19:30

Everyone is ‘hard work’ this evening!

Newsenmum · Yesterday 19:30

Is it one of those things where your mood will turn around if you go?

It's not weird, it's nice. But you clearly don't want to go, so don't.

Not sure what the point is here.

MeAndTheDoggo · Yesterday 19:33

For the sake of your friend, I hope you didn’t go

LOL. If that is what you are getting then you need better friends

My friends are awesome thanks. You sound ridiculously snippy for no reason.

I’ll gladly go in your place OP
I love lasagne and I’ve had a busy day at work and I really can’t be bothered to cook tonight

What time are we meeting? It's been ages since I've had a home cooked lasagne. (OH doesn't like it). I'll bring the wine and pudding.

Must be you as it seems perfectly normal to me.

I disagree.

Having a bad day doesn't generally turn people this nasty and if it does, they should probably look into it.

None of us know what shit OP has going on atm. Some days, I could argue in an empty room. I'm fortunate though, that the friends I have would totally understand, if I cancelled because I was feeling crap, and vice versa.

It's not about the friend, or the dinner arrangements though, is it? OP has been clear she's got some crap going on, and just wanted to vent. That doesn't make her a shit friend.

Startrekkeruniverse · Yesterday 20:12

MissJeanBrodiesmother · Yesterday 14:19

Why is your friend wanting company a bad thing? If you dont want dinner or ger company stay home. You sound very hard work.

Agree. Surely the whole point of seeing another adult is to get adult company 😂

Then she needs to cancel rather than spoil her friend’s night too.

It’s not rocket science and the reason the OP has chosen to post in such a petulant way is because she wants a reaction.
