I don't bloody want lasagne

Due to things going on at the moment for me, I am in a foul/sad/unhappy/miserable mood today. I am due to go to my friends house tonight, but:

  1. she is making lasagne. I don't want bloody lasagne - no dinner put in front of me right now will cheer me up, I want dinner but couldn't tell you what I would want .. if anything
  2. she has told me her 2 teen DD will be there for dinner too. No disrespect to her DDs, they are lovely, but I can just as well sit at home with my DDs and have dinner, which I might as well do if her DD will be with us ? why would I want to sit with her DDs when I can play happy families at home with mine? no malice or sarcasm intended by that

I probably sound ungrateful for her inviting me and offering dinner. Imo, my friend just wants the adult conversation/company, rather than spend the eve with her just her DDs who just sit on their phones all eve, if not in their rooms - but that is not my problem.

I hope you ended up rescheduling, as much as last minute cancellations are frustrating you really don’t sound in a sociable mood.
I saw a saying recently “to have a village you must be a villager” and think it’s apt for this situation, sometimes we do things that are more for the benefit of our friends/family as it’s part of being in their village. Plenty of times I’ve done an activity/ate a meal that’s more their vibe than mine and that’s perfectly okay x

Lasagne with a mate sounds like exactly what someone who is feeling a bit sad needs.

As an side, I think it is weird to invite me over to have dinner around the table, with her family .. maybe that is just me though, but why would anyone do that ??

I can think of a word for you. But it’s not appropriate here.

Right back at you

Just stop at the offy on the way for a litre of vodka.

Right back at you

How do you justify that though?

sittingonabeach · Yesterday 18:22

You sound a delight. can't think why she invited you

Anarchy99 · Yesterday 18:22

Then don’t go.its not fair on your friend if you are in a shitty mood

OP is saying she is feeling sad and unhappy right now. She is not saying these things to her friend, because that would obviously be not very nice and OP knows this. This is a chat forum, you can talk about anything. She is venting here. Read between the lines, or at least her first sentence.

Why is it weird?

ChocolateCinderToffee · Yesterday 18:32

Honestly, I know the feeling. One of my friends has pissed me off, and it's me that's being unreasonable but I am so pissed off I daren't contact her because I'd say something unforgivable.

So here I am, comfort-eating cheese and sulking.

IntentionallyAsymmetrical · Yesterday 18:35

As my mum used to say "You'll enjoy it once you get there"!

BillieWiper · Yesterday 18:36

It's really hard to eat much when you feel bad. And lasagne certainly has its moments where you just think gawd that's too much. I've only just come round to eating it very occasionally!

I hope you can just try and have a nice convo and relax as much as possible x

YelliwFinnTuner · Yesterday 18:37

can you imagine being the friend?
your friend who you've invited for a nice home dinner and a chat, posts on the internet slagging you off.
fair enough if you’re in a shit mood, dont go, but you've slagged off everything about your friend making an effort.

I find this so strange, I often eat dinner with my friends and their families and vice versa. Then we put the kids to bed and crack open the wine. I thought that was quite normal!

She’s having a bad day.
That doesn’t mean she is the MN classic ‘hard work’ 🙄

Exactly the human condition is that sometimes we get days like this. Its normal

I notice another poster seems to imply she is 'nasty' and that she needs to get help

No, no need to pathologise the natural human ups and downs.

If this post is real, you need to evaluate your life and your personality. Because you sound like a spoiled ungrateful bi*ch

Actually I really love a good sulk. I think sulking has gone out of fashion. Not in my house though!!!

because she thought you might appreciate not having to cook, or getting away from the house but she still needs to cook and French er kids? then they'll go off to their room and you can talk

Really? To me she sounds like someone who is depressed/sad/unhappy. If she was that spoiled and miserable she wouldn't have a dinner invitation.

I'd have asked to bring my kids along so I didn't have to cook for them if hers were going to be there too.

I hope you're soon feeling better @woofywoof Flowers

LOL. If that is what you are getting then you need better friends

Probably because she’s your friend and she’s noticed you’re having a hard time.

It's not normal to be horrible about someone who is supposed to be a friend. A natural 'down' would be:

'I'm in a really bad mood/unhappy and really don't fancy lasagne or having to deal with her daughter', not making a post that positions the friend as having done something wrong or substandard - cooked the wrong dinner, had the audacity to have invited her when her child would be there, wanting some company. That's what abusive people do: take their foul mood out on others and make it sound like they're the problem.

PeasOff · Yesterday 19:05

You should cancel.

  1. You don't even know what you want.
  2. Because they live there and need to eat as well. They'll probably eat and as you say go to their rooms anyway.

I get you're miserable, but you do sound ungrateful and like a rather shitty friend.
