What food do you purposely not buy?

Is there a food that you purposely don't buy because if it's in the house you'll scoff the lot?!

For me it's crunchy nut cornflakes. OMG I could eat an entire packet in a day, easy! It's like they call out to me "eat me"!!

So I very rarely buy them. What's yours?

We’re all about the carbs on here.
Everyone can trust themselves around broccoli and apples.

Broccoli & apples, no danger to them here!

lovethesunnydays · 20/10/2026 22:22

Tunnocks tea cakes. Somehow they all disappear within 10 minutes of arriving home 😳

DeftGoldHedgehog · 20/10/2026 22:24

Nice fresh bread. I'll only eat it.

weareallqueens · 20/10/2026 22:35

See these pink mallow biscuits with two strips of mallow, jam in the middle and coconut over the top. These. Haven’t had one for years.

Blame the cupboard mice.🐭

I purposely try NOT to buy snacks, chocolate, biscuits etc but having a 6 yr old and a husband who doesn't gain a pound regardless of how much he eats I'm stuck if I don't!

I do have to say though that I don't raid the cupboard for them very often and prefer to buy things that don't appeal to me ie NOT Cadburys!

I must add though that we live overseas so I like to think we have a fairly healthy Mediterranean diet most of the time 😍

Yuletidefelicitations · 21/10/2026 07:03

This thread has given me ill advised cravings.

notacooldad · 21/10/2026 07:09

Nobody should deny themselves Crunchy nut cornflakes, ever. One life, live it!
If I took that advice I'd be the size of a whale and have serious health issues.

TheThirteenthFairy · 21/10/2026 07:46

Loaves of bread. Weight maintenance is so much easier when I'm not always three minutes away from and toast and Marmite.

number1of7 · 21/10/2026 09:07

Crisps, chocolate, snacks basically anything in a packet. My kids eat it all within hours of its arrival so I only buy it for immediate consumption now.

Malasana · 21/10/2026 09:33

Does anyone think (like me) that banning certain food/refusing to buy it is a big contributor to not being able to just have some and put the rest away?
I feel like it’s basically telling yourself that these will never be available to you again so you must eat them all instantly that they are there.
It would be interesting to try and have some of whatever your banned food is available all the time and tell yourself there’s plenty left, you can have another tomorrow etc and it might help cut the cycle.
Is anyone game to give it a try?
I had to work hard at this and now I have all manner of lovely snacks available in the house all the time and can more often than not just have one and forget about them.

Cyclebabble · 21/10/2026 14:12

Cheese. I am ok with sweet things which I have a natural stop for, but cheese I will eat and eat

Packetofcrispsplease · 21/10/2026 17:42

From Costco , the Korean chicken ( in the freezer section) omg we can barely keep a pack in the house and it’s gone so fast ..the garlic one not the spicy one

villanova · 21/10/2026 21:44

Morrison's salt & pepper bloomer. The 'fresh bread' smell fills the car on the way home, then fills the kitchen when it arrives. It tastes much better fresh, so we just have to have a slice or 2 with butter, then suddenly it's gone. Similar with tiger loaves from supermarket bakeries, but the S&P is even better. It's the only time I eat white bread.

Macaroni Cheese 😬 yes I have a massive carbohydrate belly 🫣

Edited

Awww I’d love to know how you make this- watching American sitcoms when they make it, it looks soooooo good- but how da f do ya make it? Surely it’s not just pasta & a ton of melted cheese? Any recipe you would recommend I would love to try it 👍🏻👍🏻 cheers 🥰

FFSItsTooHot · 22/10/2026 02:40

Soreen malt loaf. I can eat a whole one, buttered,In one sitting. Chocolate peanuts or chocolate M and Ms,I can eat a family sized bag in one go. Mr. Kipling almond slices. Again, the whole pack would be gone in record time.

itsgettingweird · 22/10/2026 04:22

Biscuits!

one of life’s mysteries is why 1 or 2 aren’t enough - only the whole packet will do 😂🤷‍♀️

Funnily enough, I've got crunchy nut cornflakes in the house. I can leave it... but do eat 2 huge bowl fulls at a time.

Same, same. I've got Sainsbury's fake Special K at the moment, because it's crunchy enough but FAR easier to ignore. Crunchy Nut I can eat dry, by the handful - and do, if I've got them.

Also biscuits and Walkers Oven Baked (plain). I think I'm a saint if I manage to leave half a packet of biscuits or three of a six-pack uneaten.

And I'm just about to have another Lazy Day Millionaire's slice. They're ludicrously expensive, but quite gloriously enjoyable for this dairy-avoider.
... oh, just one? Could I count another one as part of breakfast ...?

Lazy Day millionaire slice? I’ve had to look these up and am now hungering for one!

For me it’s M and S ‘Loaded millionaire shortbread’. If you’ve not tried these @GarlicEverything I suggest you try them!

Shineonyoucrazy · 22/10/2026 05:38

Cheese - only buy it now for ocassional recipe or special cheeseboard. It’s easier now all my kids at uni as they liked it in for toasties etc
Crisps

Yello24 · 22/10/2026 05:51

I can and do leave sweet and salty snacks and treats alone as I’m unbothered about them but fresh crusty bread is impossible to resist.
If I buy a loaf I’m there in the kitchen with the butter dish and bread knife with my coat and shoes on cramming it in my face! 🤤

REDB99 · 22/10/2026 06:44

Sour dough with butter or a Tiger loaf, I haven’t bought tiger bread for about 10 years as I would eat the whole loaf!
Crisps with salsa dip, whole sharing bag easily gone.
Agree r.e Jaffa cakes, whole box gone in one sitting as it’s impossible to eat only one.

I am going to seek out the pistachio and cherry ice cream that has been mentioned as it sounds unreal!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/10/2026 08:23

bodgejob2 · 19/10/2026 23:12

Lurpak purely because i refuse to spend such an obscene amount on butter when you can get own brand alternatives for a fraction of the price.

Ditto, but also because I prefer to support our own farmers rather than Danish ones.

And ditto to biscuits, though about twice a year I’ll buy a packet of Garibaldis and scoff the lot within a few hours.

Crunchymum · 22/10/2026 10:28

M&S jaffa cakes. Oddly I don't even like any other jaffa cakes but these are gone the day they are opened.

Same with M&S milk chocolate sandwiches.

Thankfully both are so expensive, I rarely buy them.

Recently discovered Milka mini cookies on holiday. They aren't sold in the UK.... I am tempted to buy from Europe and have them shipped over as an Xmas treat to myself.

GoodLordMother · 22/10/2026 13:53

Fig rolls.

Sometimes my husband buys them for me thinking he's being nice (which he is) but I just think, 'oh no, I'm going to eat all of them in the next 5 minutes!'. I don't know why he thinks there might be some left for him too!
