Hi im posting here due to concerns about a local path way i live near.its a lovely community we have local dog walkers go down the path just a lovely little place for a walk.however we have some lovely cats who have pitched up home there to lol.now there was this one lady walking her dog i was on the bench down the path with 2 of the local cats the lady took the dog of the lead as if she was intitsing it to go for the cats .as i walked back then to leave the path she then does it again and winds tje cats up saying doggy on the lose cats watch out .the cats ran off in fear of this dog being let off the lead now this womans response to all this was"i have to do this or she wll have my arm off and pull me"well im sorry but if the dog can cause that much injury to you what the hell could it do to the poor cats.am i right in wanting to report this to my local council?

Very popular with dog walkers who i often chat with.the dogs and cats love it there but its no excuse for that woman to intentially take the dog of lead .the other dog walkers dont do it why dont they? Because they have this word called common sence.course some of the dogs run down there freely ajd the cats run off the path in to the woods but the owners do the rightful thing and say oooo come on leave the cats alone .they dont let them off the lead and intentionly go go on go get them thats just creul .

Costal path or a woodland path ?

as you state costal at 11.40am and woodland at 11.42am

Flowercandy · Yesterday 11:54

By letting the dog lose because of the power it causes this ladys so called arm shes inflicting this power on to the cats claiming the dog will rip her arm socket out if she doesnt why the hell inflict it on the cats .totally irresponsible and she shouldnt have the dog out in public if this is the case.not just the cats welfare but others to what if the dog got so wound up and excited the cat run in to the road t doesnt just cause distress it causes a hazard if the dog chases a animal to the point it goes in to bushes with barbed wire which this path does have in some of the bushes looking at the bigger picure this beahviour can cause all kinds of distress and worry.

Why has the lady got a ‘so called arm’?

Because she lets the dog off to protect it in the process of putting another animal in danger

OP posts:
Flowercandy · Yesterday 11:57

To save her arm well a cat is at risk of loseing his paws or legs or whatever the dog would do if it got the cat

OP posts:
chapstickandfibs · Yesterday 11:57

But then that just makes it an arm surely?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · Yesterday 12:05

' its a coastal path with woodlands around it ' with a colony of cats living on it...

Flowercandy · Yesterday 12:19

Similier layout like this footpath going along it.then loads of woods etc around it

'its a massive public land of woods'

so just how far away are the properties that these cats live in ?

DorsetKnobBiscuit · Yesterday 15:07

To sum up.

This happened on a coastal, woodland path in a massive land of woods, besides which there are bushes with barbed wire and roads..

The path leads to Tescos which is why OP is on the path.

Photos show the cats on a tarmac path but the actual path is like the example photo of a gravel path. There is a bench, but this isn't in the actual photos or the example photo.

On the path several cats sit in a row. The main boss is the tabby cat. Sometimes they're there for a few days then sometimes the tabby cat tells them to separate.

OP knows all the cats and the owners of the cats and their feeding requirements.

A lady with a so called arm took the dog of the lead as if she was intitsing it to go for the cats. She whispered at the dog and talked to the cats. The lady fears her dog will pull her arm off.

The lady has let her dog off three times now.
No cats have ever been injured.
The cats keep returning to the path.
The lady's arm has not been pulled off.

Not all cats are scared of dogs. I had a ginger boy who loathed them from when he was a kitten. We had communal gardens behind our house, and he would go for any dog that was out there, his tally included a Basset hound, a German shepherd and an Afghan! When my husband was still practicing as a vet , a man bought in two very sad Staffies, he thought that it was funny to let them off the lead to chase any cats that were around when he took them out last thing. One night a cat went for them, cats claws are very sharp, their faces were in a terrible state, I don’t think that they ever chased cats again

It’s quite hard to unintentionally take a dog off the lead, what with the various clips, and how do you know this is the only place she lets the dog off lead, do you stalk them door to door? That would be very weird.

So the cats hang out near a wood where they can predate on the small furry and feathered native wildlife, but dogs can’t be let off the lead there without local busybodies being hysterical and accusing her of the apparently criminal offence of potentially frightening cats. Not sure how that’s worse than what cats do to native wildlife….

Again, you are arguabky harassing this woman and should mind your own business.

How many times do you have to be told there is no colony of cats living on the path - they are all owned cats who meet up there during the day then go back to their own homes. Do you actually read all that anyone posts, or just have a scan function in your mind that only shows you things you can be picky about? OP has pointed out that they are owned cats, I know I've pointed that out on the thread, as have many others.

Are you sure you aren't the dog owner, or someone else who does the same thing? Because you're starting to come across as either that, or you have something personally against the OP.

Allergictoironing · Yesterday 18:46

OP has said that she has been sitting on the bench watching the woman walk towards her (and the cats) with the dog on a lead. As she gets close to the cats she takes the lead off. OP states she has seen this behaviour more than once - dog on lead, get to cat meeting area, dog let off lead.

Thank you yes i was sitting on the bench and the cats were around me and she come by the bench a bit further up wound the cats up let him off and said go get them.then she told me she has to do it or he will pull her arm off .but she happily walks up and down the path with her dog on the lead other times.soon as she sees the cats thats it

I really appreciate the summary above and OP posts.

One thing I’m not clear on is whether the so called arm is the left so called arm or the right such arm.

Can you confirm which one it is OP?

It will help me form an opinion on whether the so called arm is more important than the cat congregation or not.

Flowercandy · Yesterday 19:12

Thats 3 of them the one further up the tabby is owned and well feed ,the second black one lives by me and spends most times down the path thats the one who had the nasty bite, the 3rd black one is owend by a good friend that ive made.
