Hi im posting here due to concerns about a local path way i live near.its a lovely community we have local dog walkers go down the path just a lovely little place for a walk.however we have some lovely cats who have pitched up home there to lol.now there was this one lady walking her dog i was on the bench down the path with 2 of the local cats the lady took the dog of the lead as if she was intitsing it to go for the cats .as i walked back then to leave the path she then does it again and winds tje cats up saying doggy on the lose cats watch out .the cats ran off in fear of this dog being let off the lead now this womans response to all this was"i have to do this or she wll have my arm off and pull me"well im sorry but if the dog can cause that much injury to you what the hell could it do to the poor cats.am i right in wanting to report this to my local council?

Im bascially saying do you all agree that a lady lets her dog off the lead purely to attack and chase cats .and the reason for her doing this is because apparently her dog will pull her arm put her socket so she said.

I agree with you and think this behaviour is disgusting. What if her dog caught one of the cats and shook it to death? That is someone else’s beloved pet. Just what is wrong with people? I’d report to rspca. And I’d film the dog as well.

Edited to add, ignore the crazy posters who seem to think nothing’s wrong with deliberate animal cruelty. It’s MN, you often get these types of contrarian responses.

A week ago I looked out of my bedroom to see my large cat trying to attack two dogs on a leads walked by an old guy. I ran down to pick him up and brought him in. Animals are attacked in nature, but I agree op, no human should do this. I would report her.
Some cats are sociable, especially if they have lived in a colony. Mine had been in an outdoor group, so tolerates others. Saw him sat in a group of three, as if they were having a meeting. It made me think of Macbeth ‘When shall we three meet again…….’

Yes these cats all sit in a row sometimes its so funny i think they also get told off by the main boss the tabby cat i think he runs the path as sometimes there in certain spots and they stay around there for a few days like he tells them all right u all stay here for few days until i say otherwise!lol all seperate then theyll all be around eachother again lol

Hopefully the owners of the cats will see your Facebook post and start keeping an eye on their beloved pets instead of letting them roam? There are lots of nutters about after all! A poor cat was killed by a car outside my house recently, I just don’t understand why it is so common for people to let their pets roam.

'Her delibretly taking the dog of the lead to go and get the cats knowing that shes unable to control it proves that the dog isnt controlled om the extent to what it could do to the cats.if she cant protect herself and is worried about her poor arm then quite frankly other animals are at risk.'

and what if, once the dog is off lead and she calls it back
and it returns to her

what then ?

As I asked earlier - which By Law or Act of Law would you be reporting her to the Council for ?

and

'however we have some lovely cats who have pitched up home there to lol.'

'No there owned they just like walking up and down the path'

' The cats have been on the path for years '

Don't the cats ever go home ? You write as if they ( plural tho you've not said how large this colony of cats is )

and ' pathway ' / ' path ' where is this ' pathway ' is it a pavement beside houses and roads or an alleyway behind houses or what ? Does it lead to somewhere ? as you state it's a lovely place for a walk

and it has benches to sit on too.

Once again this owner is basically telling the dog to do it.we cant stop what we cant control but she can stop and control her dog by leaving him on the lead!

But wouldn’t that rip her arm out of her socket?

SoVeryVeryBored · 15/10/2026 23:54

Flowercandy · 15/10/2026 21:25

I get that but this woman it seems is doing it dilibratly the dog is being told go on go get them.its a bit diffrent if its natural but this woman seemingly is basically telling the dog go and chase them.if the dog supposedly pulls her arm so bad then why inflict that on a poor cat.if she cant control the dog then it shouldnt be going out for walks with her.

Dogs don’t speak English, so it doesn’t know what she is saying.

Feral cats are horribly destructive to wildlife so I can’t feel too sorry for them, and the dog is very unlikely to catch them, so no harm done. If you feel strongly about the cats maybe catch them, spay them and keep them as pets yourself.

You know literacy varies and has no relationship to intelligence. So why be rude? The post is perfectly understandable.

@Flowercandy

You quoted the wrong question.

No they dont speak english but the owner does and shes the one in the wrong as it states getting your dog to chase cats and god knoes what to them is a offence.and if she is scared of him on the lead and thats the reason she lets him off because hes uncontrolable if thats the case then dont take him out its a danger to us all.

Our cat was mauled by a horrid neighbours dog when we were children...she was just about to have kittens. They all died. The guilt my poor Dad felt in that he'd seen her sat crouched in the garden and thought she was preparing for birth...instead her leg was hanging off.

This dog walker is appalling and yes I'd try and find a way to thwart her cruelty.

You’re missed the point OP, the dog doesn’t speak English so how can the owner be ‘intising’ it to chase cats?

We get it, you like cats and think they are better than dogs. Those of us who understand the impact they have on wildlife don’t agree, they are horribly destructive and if people must keep them they should keep them inside or walk them on a lead (it is possible, I’ve seen it, but most people are too lazy and can’t be arsed to train for it, which is ironic given what yo are saying about the dog walker not training her dog).

In any event no harm was actually done so you have nothing to report. Get a grip.

A cat once chased my dog down the street.

I lost an arm.

Course i have something to report what she did is a offence and it clearly states that.its not about the dog as i chat to loads of local dog walkers and there dogs im not discrimanating dogs.its purely about her basically letting the dog run free knowing its gonna go for the cat and thats why shes doing it.she said herself hes uncontroable so if hes that uncontrolabe for her then how bloody uncontrable is he to the cats.completly irrisponsible and she shouldnt be allowed a dog if thats the case.

'Course i have something to report'

For the 3rd time - which By Law or Act of Law do you think the local council can take action upon ?

As for the RSPCA do you think they will send out an inspector to sit on one of the benches on this path to wait for this dog owner ever coming back in the hope that she lets her dog off the lead ( no offence committed yet ? ) and tells the dog to ' go get them '...

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · Yesterday 00:26

btw what is that on the ground in one of the photos - that the cat appears to be sniffing / eating ?

Would that not attract rats ? mice, pigeons or seagulls...

Animal Welfare Act 2006 (Section 4): Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is a criminal offence. If an owner intentionally releases a dog or encourages it to attack a cat, they can be prosecuted for causing or permitting unnecessary suffering to the cat (similar cases have resulted in convictions, unpaid work, and disqualification from keeping animals). 1, 2]
