Hi im posting here due to concerns about a local path way i live near.its a lovely community we have local dog walkers go down the path just a lovely little place for a walk.however we have some lovely cats who have pitched up home there to lol.now there was this one lady walking her dog i was on the bench down the path with 2 of the local cats the lady took the dog of the lead as if she was intitsing it to go for the cats .as i walked back then to leave the path she then does it again and winds tje cats up saying doggy on the lose cats watch out .the cats ran off in fear of this dog being let off the lead now this womans response to all this was"i have to do this or she wll have my arm off and pull me"well im sorry but if the dog can cause that much injury to you what the hell could it do to the poor cats.am i right in wanting to report this to my local council?

The dog didnt do anything because the cats run off .but the fact im making is she took him off to go and chase them.then claimed she has to do that or he wll pull her arm off.immature sadistic excuse if you ask me.if the dog can do that why the hell risk it run after cats.

Did the dog actually chase the cats. I say 'go on then' to my dogs when I let them off lead, meaning go and have a run.

No she was doing it directly to go get the cats

He chased them yes but she said go on go get them.intising the dog to go and get them.or is this maybe a bormal thing dog walkers do ove only ever owned cats but looking up today this isnt the case.

This isn't what you said initially.

You said, "the lady took the dog of the lead as if she was intitsing it to go for the cats" and then that she said, "doggy on the lose cats watch out" as though in warning and then "the cats ran off in fear of this dog being let off the lead now".

This is a different story.

What breed of dog is it.

We have a guy round our way whose dog kills cats far too regularly.

It seems from reading this that the majority of people think its pretty normal to let there dogs off leads to go and chase and hurt cats .

In a sarcastic way yes like she was getting off on it.enjoying the fact that the dog was gonna go for them.

It is abhorrent to set a dog onto a cat, or onto any other animal.

No there owned they just like walking up and down the path very friendly loving cats and approachable to the public

So the cats are allowed to roam freely in a public space but the dog isn’t? Surely that’s discrimination!

I get that but this woman it seems is doing it dilibratly the dog is being told go on go get them.its a bit diffrent if its natural but this woman seemingly is basically telling the dog go and chase them.if the dog supposedly pulls her arm so bad then why inflict that on a poor cat.if she cant control the dog then it shouldnt be going out for walks with her.

I tell my dog "go on go get them" with squirrels, because
a) he has never caught one in 10 years
b) he is just in it for the chase

if it was a cat, you could add to that list
c) the only time he's ever cornered one (neighbours cat in my garden) he came off worse.

Your making some big assumption that the women is goading her dog to physically attack the cats or that that particular dog has any interest in harming the cats.

I don't think that's the case at all.

You've said yourself that the cats have been in the lane for years with lots of dogs around. Cats are pretty switched on and will get out of the way of dogs or even stand their ground and put the dog in their place. Most people know that. These cats seem pretty street wise characters.

Course they are.but the fact that woman was dilibretly setting the dog on the cats defeats this.basically telling me the dog will pull her arm out her socket if it sees cats that she happily sets the dog on to them to protect her precious arm!

@Periperi2025 On the one occasion my dog was close catching a squirrel I watched her deliberately widen the arc of her run so she'd be in no danger what so ever of catching up with it. Likewise tactical sniffs when encountering cats on walks in the hope they'd stroll on by before doggo got in their zone.

Edited

Perhaps she genuinely knows her dog will not chase the cats - and in fact it didn't.

AndyouWILLATONE · 15/10/2026 21:44

Unless it was a greyhound or whippet it was unlikely to ever catch the dog. Chill.

My lurcher never caught anything he chased despite being an ex racing dog!

Flowercandy · 15/10/2026 21:46

This had happened to one of the local cats just few weeks ago.now please dont tell me that letting a dog of the lead to souly go chase cats is normal and especialy after tellimg me the dog will pull her arm socket out if she doesnt let him off what a immature excuse.

We had 6 sheep break into our garden, I let my dog out before i realised, he chased them round into the furthest corner from the gap they came in through (broke down the drystone wall) and then trotted back down the garden path looking super proud of himself.
I then donned wellies and dealt with the, totally unharmed sheep, problem!!

PuppyMonkey · 15/10/2026 21:47

If it’s a public footpath, there’s bound to be all sorts of dogs walking there. It’s a strange place for a bunch of cats to want to hang out regularly TBH. Confused

There’s no proof a dog caused that?

It did though lol they ran off petrified thats the whole reason she let the dog off the lead because he goes for them and pulls her precious arm out her socket.so to save her precious arm she just lets him off lead and gives him the heads up go on go get them .

He thought you'd want to keep them. Job well done.

neilyoungismyhero · 15/10/2026 21:51

@Periperi2025I regularly go to a local park with lots of trees, with my dog, who I keep on a lead. A woman there allows her rottweiler to chase the squirrels. I suppose she thinks it's amusing. I don't know whether he's ever caught one, hopefully not, but it's a shitty thing to do in my opinion, likewise your behaviour. I can't imagine the squirrels are having much fun

marvelousmarmaladian · 15/10/2026 21:51

Are they like a cat gang? Most cats are pretty solitary. I have images of Top Cat.

She sounds like a nuisance and you sound very concerned about this. Report her if you're worried.

Flowercandy · 15/10/2026 21:52

I think your all not getting the point tbh.this isnt just a woman walking her dog and it accidently chaseing a cat up the path.this is a woman who is delibretly taking the dog of the lead to go and get them knowing he is vicious enough to pull her arm out her socket if he sees one.
