Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

I used to live near Roger Lloyd Pack. I worked in the local newsagent as a Saturday girl and he came in weekly to pay his paper bill.

Crispynoodle · 04/10/2026 22:45

I was driven away from a farm shop in Wiltshire just as a few range rovers were going in. It was the Prince and Princess of Wales who often shop there. My DD was driving and had only passed her test a couple of weeks prior so I couldn’t ask her to turn around!

She really is.

Each camp was 2 or 3 soap/reality type celebs, and the rest wood be tubby teens and young adults generally from incredibly wealthy families who's parents were effectively sending them to fat camp.

We were fucking good, people would lose over a stone in a week. It was very expensive, luxury accommodation, novelty celebs, but we really got results too.

Food was a big problem. Everyone was on a private chef strictly controlled eating plan. Day 4 people got two squares of dark chocolate and would covet them for about an hour. Craving certain foods was a really difficult part, hard to explain how your body fixates unless you've been through it. I guess similar to I'm a Celeb in the jungle when they've been in rice for 3 weeks then win a donut. People get through it by banding together as a team. It's actually very effective in forging strong support bonds between each other and strengthens spirits enormously.

Anyway, in the second week, Gemma Collins, who made a fucking ordeal out of everything, even the walk to the lawns for warm ups, decided she'd order pizza. To her room. And everyone in those bedrooms could smell it. She thought she was hilarious. People who had saved up and come to seriously lose weight were in tears. Literally. It's agonising when your body is in pieces from 10hrs of exercise and crying out for carbs.

She laughed in their faces. One of the trainers went fucking ballistic at her. She ran off, "no one talks to me like that". Skulked off in the middle of the night like a spoilt child. Awful individual.

No ! He was very quiet and had a curtain hairstyle, also called himself Patrick, not Paddy

I always felt he could benefit from an Irish accent, you know with his name and all.

I have a couple of controversial ones...
My kids went to school with Katie Hopkins kids, she is actually really lovely and her kids were too.
Met Saville and thought he was rude n creepy.

Best one was working for Alan Ahlberg ( children's author) he was the nicest, humblest man ever. He and his wife came to my wedding. I was so sad when he died recently.

Others.. Colin Jackson in Bath , he was training while my son did sports clubs. I was in a club and the Olympic swimmers Paul Palmer and Mark Foster were there, their shoulders were massive! I tried to squeeze past to brush up against them 😆

I worked in a Bath hotel when the east enders cast were doing panto. I went to clean a room and Phil Mitchell was still in bed. And Barbara Windsor wasn't there so they let me take home a huge bouquet of flowers that had been left for her.

My son met and has photos with Andy from cbbc and the Fonz!! I'm so jealous of that one. The Fonz is really small too.
I know many more too!

Edited

I've met Katie and thought she was vile!! Although maybe that's the persona she portrays while in work (it was at a UKIP conference).

Well he didn’t bother me at all just went on his way

I bumped into Jon Richardson with his mates at the Fringe. I thought I knew him, like actually knew him, as I was drunk, but that the issue was not remembering his name, so I overcompensated and said 'HIII!! HOW ARE YOU?!!' and proceeded to act over familiar i.e 'I'M GOOD THANKS'. Then as he turned away, his mate turned to me and said 'What are you, his long lost cousin or something?'. Still baffled, but realising that this interaction was not one where I was welcome, I smiled, nodded and turned away, while having the slow realisation that he was indeed 'off the TV' and not a guy I'd randomly snogged, or a mate of a mate. A hole in the ground would have been quite helpful.

Why didn't they go to the family's farm shop? Windsor Farm Shop - Windsor Great Park

Presumably because they were in Wiltshire. 😄

It's weird when you see people from TV out of context. I was at a graduation ceremony a couple of years ago and spent ages working out where I'd met one of the dads before. It was Steve Pemberton.

Hazel O'Connor in the bar after a gig. She was very pleasant and chatty and I couldn't get over how incredibly petite she was, big voice and stage presence.

[Google tells me she is 5 foot 4, I'm 5 foot 6 and TOWERED over her so not sure about that!)

I saw Ewan Bremner (spud trainspotting and other things) at Edinburgh airport just standing at arrivals, i was waiting on my parents, i felt weird seeing someone so well known obviously i didn't bother the guy but yes it is strange, seeing them doing ordinarily things.

I gave directions to Richard Harris. My mother later sat next to him watching a play (he must have been in town doing a play himself). She was Irish so they had a little chat. He wasn’t impressed by the play though as he didn’t return after interval. Walked straight past Joanna Lumley on Kings Rd and didn’t notice her but my friend did. I had Mark King (Level 42) put his hands on my shoulders at a charity dinner - a case of mistaken identity.
Went to the Petersham Nurseries in Richmond for lunch and double celebrity sitings: Anne Robinson and Richard E Grant - not together he was eating solo. He noticed us noticing and gave us a little smile and a nod.

I once passed Stephen Hawking in the street in Cambridge. I also once passed Richard E. Grant in the street in Bath.

I used to see Brian Clough sometimes in passing.

Madewithtea · 05/10/2026 13:46

David Haye with his family at the same hotel as us in Barbados many years ago, his baby son was in a high chair & as babies do, dropped a lot of his food on the floor. David & his wife just left it all there when they left. He didn’t look at all approachable so we didn’t bother him.
Another one, same hotel, an England cricketer, Graham someone (I don’t follow cricket), very friendly & approachable, DH & friend had a couple of drinks with him & talked cricket.

There was a cricketer called Graham on Strictly a few years ago. Graham Swann?

Years ago Bill Beaumont and Lindsay Hoyle and his dad Doug were regulars in our local pub.

Bill and Doug lovely, Lindsay not so much.

Kirk from Corrie lives locally. Also Marlon Dingle from Emmerdale. He and his parents live locally and its the funniest thing. I saw his mum without knowing who she was and straight away thought 'Wow that woman looks just like Marlon Dingle' then at a local function I saw her again, this time with her husband and Marlon. When I saw his dad I was gobsmacked at how much he looked like Marlon. Honestly he is the absolute image of both his parents.

Lifeomars · 05/10/2026 16:55

Quite a few as my ex BIL is a reasonably famous singer and there were often various "celebs" from the music world at his home when we went to visit. Also met a fair few backstage when we went to his gigs, far too outing for me to name any of them. What it taught me was that a lot of them are arrogant and unpleasant but some are delightful and pleasant people, bit like life in general. I had a really lovely chat with Danny Boyle once and he was even nicer than you could ever guess. One of my relatives used to live near Jessie Wallace and would see her out and about when they wnt for walks. Another relative dated a man who was mixed in starry circles and they went to dinner at Robbie Williams house.

I'm not even shocked. was she kicked out

The trainers were ex marines, and very unimpressed by people with no discernable talent who thought too much of themselves . One went and basically asked her what the fuck she thought she was playing at, there was a teenage girl who was being seriously bullied for her weight in the room next to her. She had begged her parents and they had signed up for 6 weeks to try and totally change her life . She was in about week 3 and doing amazingly but trust me, at this stage, whilst you love the results, you would also consider committing quite serious crime for one bite of a burger. I'm not remotely joking, the cravings have taken over every part of you. Mentally and physically it's horrendous. And there's this twat ordering pizzas for herself in the room next door. The marine didn't mince his words, about the level of disrespect she was showing to the rest of the camp and what he thought of her. She laughed in his face, assuming he must be joking as no one would ever dare speak like that to someone like her, being the A lister she thinks she is. When she saw everyone looking at her like she was a piece of work, suddenly she was the victim in it all, shouting on the phone to her agent, then fled under cover of darkness.

Good riddance.
