AI is hiding under an electric blankie? 🧐

DuncinToffee · 09/10/2026 15:38

FT is reporting some unrest within the Lib Dems.

Charlie Maynard has resigned from the LibDem frontbench Treasury team to seek a leadership change. He has been the MP for Witney since 2024: a strong critic of Brexit with hawkish fiscal views on government debt

I know the explanation for my deletion.

Reform have decided to spend some of that £72,000,000 on hiring resources to scan social media for adverse mentions of their name.

So former in answer to a mildly cryptic clue on a CROSSWORD that highlights reform would be deleted now?

Piggywaspushed · 09/10/2026 15:50

I didn't see the deleted post but unless they referenced another thread or poster specifically it seems very odd.

DuncinToffee · 09/10/2026 16:16

In other by elections, Labour gained from Reform in Newcastle under Lyme and Greens gained from Cons in Kilburn, Denby, Holbrook & Horsley (Amber Valley)

Labour held in Myatt's Fields (Lambeth) and SNP held Rosemount/Midstocket (Aberdeen)

Pleasing to see Labour gaining from Reform.

Yn ysbryd teitl y drafodaeth: dim ond mynegi boddhad a wnes i fod y ddwy blaid adain dde eithafol (efallai fy mod wedi defnyddio gair sy'n cynnwys llythyren olaf yr wyddor) wedi dod yn is na'r trydydd safle. Bydd hi'n ddiddorol gweld pa mor bell y mae ein harchwilwyr yn barod i fynd yn eu dirmyg tuag at ieithoedd "tramor", ac a fydd y neges hon yn cael ei nodi a/neu ei dileu hefyd.

Careful ... it was my expression of that sentiment that got a deletion .....

Wtf!

Were these AI deletions, I wonder?

DuncinToffee · 09/10/2026 16:55

I was thinking the same,

I have now asked why they were flagged in the first place.

Seems the Lib Dem’s are moving against Ed Davey now. Presumably because of the poor showing yesterday.

Good. Well done Lily.

LizzieW1969 · 09/10/2026 17:14

Reform really don’t perform well in by elections, do they? It’s good news.

I think we can guess. They will have been reported. Obviously they won't say by whom.

DuncinToffee · 09/10/2026 17:21

I am not interested in who reported them but more what they were reported as.

Personal attack, misinformation, other?

Yes, it’s difficult to see on what basis they could be reported.

Yes, but surely the moderators should engage their brains when deciding whether or not to delete posts that have been reported.

I would like to know what process is in place to determine which posts break talk guidelines - at the moment, it seems that things are getting deleted on a whim and then potentially reinstated later.

Does that mean that the moderators have had insufficient guidance or training on what to delete and what to let stand, resulting in different mods arriving at different judgements?

Or does it mean that they only give posts a quick cursory glance when deciding whether or not to delete, without actually bothering to engage with the detail?

I can't see that either scenario is going to result in effective moderation.

MN moderation is focused on the site as a whole. Therefore the moderators have to think of the dim.

Much like your headmistress as school might say "I understood your point, Jane. But you have to remember not everyone can understand those words, and I can't help but think you used them deliberately to upset them".

my suggestion that maybe they should learn the words before being upset was rather lost.

It would be inaccurate to say "lowest common denominator, but I just have 😀

Agree. Especially as if one ever did report, they need to back it up with a non ai generated statement.

Got this reply from MN

Hi DuncinToffee,

The first post was deleted because we mistakenly read it as a personal attack - we went back to the thread, reread the conversation following the post and established that the post did not appear to be aimed at anyone posting.
The second post, we don't have a reason for - just human error on our side of things.

Best wishes,
Lily, MNHQ
