It's very quiet on the Holborn and St Pancras by election.

I said that to DH.

I assume this means Labour will win.

Re land.

we had a huge housing estate complete with schools and GP surgery being built. It’s required a whole motorway junction to be reconfigured. Cheapest house was reported to be set at £500k.

they’ve currently ceased development as apparently the houses already built or being contracted aren’t selling.

All the agents I spoke to when looking at new houses (that were all shit without exception, but that's another matter) emphasized how there wad a limit on sales per quarter to ensure the values were kept high (and presumably the riff raff out).

Once again, any "crisis" in UK housing is purely an artificial creation. As ever, it should be asked "who benefits ?"

Odd how the police rolled over so quickly.

Not that it makes much difference. Evidence is evidence - lawfully obtained or not.

There's never a lot of reporting on polling day because it would be seen as bias. Although given that it's a by-election for the seat of a former MP, you would expect some reporting.

Usually the BBC has a "Voting is underway" as a front page story.

Was going to comment this morning that the by-election coverage had been particularly low key - but then I forgot

Labour won by election

Labour won by election

Comfortably.
The Lib-Dem vote was interesting at only 3%. Twenty years ago they were a challenger ending in second place there.

Llttledrummergirl · 09/10/2026 08:32

That was a good result for sanity.

Those claiming the right is on the rise can take this result, along with the other recent by election results and fuck right off back into their hole.

Young people form the largest group of voters there. That was a good result for a local Labour candidate who I think will serve the area well.

For the spreadsheet fans

NEW: Kemi Badenoch’s flagship party conference policy document, The Right Way, overestimated the cost of net zero by nearly £500bn, seemingly after someone accidentally double-counted figures on a spreadsheet.

Seeing the both Nazi parties in less than 3rd place is pleasing.

Quite the embarrassment for Badenoch considering her background in Computer Systems Engineering.

That’s a very low drop for Labour given last time they were voting for such a high profile MP - Starmer’s position would normally attracted quite a number of votes surely, alongside him having been the Mp for a while.

It’s a very good result for Labour, all things considered. And they appear to have elected a very good candidate, I was impressed.

It's within a whisker of Makerfield where the winning candidate beat all the others combined.

Which torpedoes any whining from the Reform about somehow gaining a moral victory.

Here (naturally) the non barking dog is the 61% of constituents who didn't feel voting was a good use of their time. Because even 100% of 39% is not more than 50% of the whole.

It would be an act worthy of Samson, bringing the temple down, but figures like that are a good reason to question the legitimacy of the result.

Sagal Abdi-Wali seems to be an excellent MP. Works closely with the community and the council. Was given refuge and is gladly paying back. Upstanding.

dontcallmelen · 09/10/2026 12:35

Really glad she has won, agree placemats she will be an excellent representative.
