I know she can’t help her voice, too me she always comes across as hectoring & practically shouting very prissy & humourless, they have clearly learnt nothing from fourteen years of ruinous policies combined with utter self serving incompetence I would have a great deal more respect for them if even occasionally they admitted that austerity contributed massively to the state of services/resources that’s without the billions spaffed by Boris & his henchmen they sickened me then & they still do now, she is an over promoted ejjit.

They still insist that austerity was necessary because Labour had bankrupted the country. It’s their story and they’re sticking to it!

The comment about being the old Conservatives people 'know and love' was an odd one. Like people see them as a national treasure. I always thought that people either hated them with a passion or simply saw them as the tool to best further their own self interest.

It's a lie anyway. She's good at lies.

It's always puzzled my how some decent people insist they are Conservatives without any real ideological reason. Almost as if it somehow comes with the job. Even when they disagree with every policy going, they always conclude with "But of course I could never vote Labour".,

It's faintly sinister.

I find her strangely compelling. There is something about her performance that makes me want to keep watching her, despite disagreeing with the content. Her voice, vocabulary, delivery is engaging. And if I say this as someone who strongly disagrees with her, I can imagine what she inspires in those already on board with her ideology.

She always used to come across as quite intelligent and "feisty" (I hate that word especially used for woman but don't have a better one in this case) in a good way. She gave the impression of someone quite opinionated but also genuine in their options. In my opinion her biggest problem is that she spends too much time on social media and it's brain rotted her to the point that extremely online culture wars type issues take up way too much headspace. I know clever, somewhat opinionated people who have fallen into that trap. (I know there's an irony in criticising people for spending too much time on social media while using Mumsnet).

Just watching bits. To be fair, she really is angry about this definition of Englishness

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2026 18:06

But the cheer from the self interested about IHT stuck in my craw.

itsgettingweird · 07/10/2026 18:18

I’ve been listening to Kemi recently. She’s talk really well but I always note the edge in her voice when challenged.

She responds as if the interviewer is thick and doesn’t understand rather than able to answer the challenge.

She has a point on that

She did, and it was the only good point she made.

I read she mentioned Burnham about 20 times, he didn't mention her once.

There is only one thing worse than being talked about ...

placemats · 07/10/2026 18:37

Empty vessels.

Imagine for one minute you're a multi millionaire with no children and are female. Caveat, I have two close relatives who are exactly that. All that hard graft and work is going to be taxed by the government. No thanks Kemi.

Kemi isn't as clever as she sounds.

She mentioned footballers who suffered a lot from rascism online.

Yes she's of Nigerian descent and British. She no longer identifies as Nigerian.

Kemi Badenoch wears a white shirt and multicoloured necklace. There is a microphone clipped to her neckline and a red and purple background behind her.

Kemi Badenoch: I don't identify as Nigerian any more

The Conservative Party leader says she has not renewed her passport for the West African country in years.

Does raise the fascinating question of what if someone else identified her as having Nigerian heritage ? Could they have a visit to check their thinking ?

In fairness she hasn't said she doesn't have Nigerian heritage? You can Be British, have British nationality and consider yourself English but also know you were born in America or Nigeria or that your parents came from there. Boris Johnson was born in America but gave up his nationality there (in his case because of tax). He also has a Turkish grandparent but while I think it would be reasonable to point out he has Turkish heritage, doing it as a gotcha in response to him saying he doesn't consider himself Turkish/American would be unreasonable. I assume he doesn't "identify" as American. It's up to him

I am partially Irish but wouldn't identify as Irish because to me that would be weird and cringe (even though Irish people are great or that other people cant.) if someone wanted to say "Persephone has Irish heritage" then that's technically true.

I dunno, just feel a bit bad for her being nitpicked on this.

DuncinToffee · 07/10/2026 19:21

I am glad she said what she said.

And I don't think agreeing with Badenoch on this point will make me explode or see me chased off the thread Wink

And Boring Johnson has what to do with this exactly? He wasn't at the conference. Neither was John Major.

Partially Irish? Seriously that's a huge red flag. And you know that.

DuncinToffee · 07/10/2026 19:27

Oh look, billionaire who claimed he left the UK because of Labour was already a tax resident in Monaco since 2014.

That’s true. It would be like me identifying as Czech because that’s where my F came from, despite the fact that I don’t speak any Czech and have only been there twice in my life.

There’s enough to criticise Kemi from without nitpicking about her heritage.

They did that ages ago.
