Stop trying to convince people that you have a shred of empathy in your body, Badenoch.

countrygirl99 · 07/10/2026 12:41

I heard Kemi's waffle about M&S and just knew she never ventures onto the Style & Beauty board

placemats · 07/10/2026 12:45

Tens of thousands of jobs to go within the civil service. Yet the Tories are the Party of employment. Bonkers.

LizzieW1969 · 07/10/2026 11:41

So why is she more popular than her party? I can’t understand it.

I find her strangely compelling. There is something about her performance that makes me want to keep watching her, despite disagreeing with the content. Her voice, vocabulary, delivery is engaging. And if I say this as someone who strongly disagrees with her, I can imagine what she inspires in those already on board with her ideology.

placemats · 07/10/2026 12:55

Can't stand listening to her. It's like having to eat a bowl full of sugar to help the thimble of medicine go down.

Thank you for that, @5128gap, that’s interesting. I suppose I do kind of get how she could be compelling, as she’s very articulate and can be personable.

But I find her irritating rather than compelling, as she’s very supercilious.

The Tories always cut the CS. Then discover they have cut too much and have to recruit again.

I'd agree with that. She delivers a speech well however repellant she and its content are.

placemats · 07/10/2026 13:02

IF is taking a lot of heavy lifting in the dire speech conclusion. Used 16 times.

"We have something for everyone.". Unless you don't agree with the ideology of the Conservatives.

placemats · 07/10/2026 13:05

Badenoch has a "Do you know who I am?" accent.

DuncinToffee · 07/10/2026 13:13

Is Paddington an insult now?

Yes. As opposed to Piddington, which is to be praised.

Davidson and Street are far more level headed but not on the front benches and centrist fringe players are not really heard

Edited

I’ll be very interested to hear Davidson’s take on it on Friday.

Andy Street was on Newsnight but you're always conscious that he's struggling to navigate the rock and the hard place.

eta Think Ruth Davidson was as well. However I was tired and went to bed. She struggles too.

Civil service expanded enormously because of Brexit - taking on roles previously covered by EU. I thought that was what she voted for?

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 07/10/2026 13:45

Her delivery is pretty good but the content is the same old Tory shit as ever.

DD2 was transferred, by choice, from her post in the Home Office to work with Brexit exit.

dontcallmelen · 07/10/2026 14:03

I know she can’t help her voice, too me she always comes across as hectoring & practically shouting very prissy & humourless, they have clearly learnt nothing from fourteen years of ruinous policies combined with utter self serving incompetence I would have a great deal more respect for them if even occasionally they admitted that austerity contributed massively to the state of services/resources that’s without the billions spaffed by Boris & his henchmen they sickened me then & they still do now, she is an over promoted ejjit.

Jonathan Miller was once asked whether he appreciated the voice training Mrs. Thatcher had to make her less shrill.

"Not really", he said "It's too much like a perfumed fart"

I'm here all week.

I reckon she's had a voice coach. I noticed the number of times she dropped her voice as if she was talking to an individual and even said "let me tell you a secret about".

That's alright then.

Maybe they can also tell us that Reform really won the 2024 election too.

Karistyleaftea · 07/10/2026 15:06

@LizzieW1969 Supercilious is indeed a word I would use for her, I just cannot bear listening to her voice.
She always sounds as if she is talking down to the person she's with.
