I voted Green once and that was in the last MEP elections. First choice was Labour, elected. The Green candidate was elected as well.

I’ve never liked Polanski. Self confessed populist. Populism is the problem, not the solution.
@Badvocthebad all of them? Really? I have more faith in most young people.

No, not all of them. A considerable percentage, though - almost 40%. Twice as many as would vote Labour.

Apropos of that, waiting for a bus with a friend who uses a wheelchair. Must have been around 4:30 so college home time. Two lads sporting some funky hairstyles and puffing the most enormous doobie I've seen in a while were also waiting.

They saw my friend and while we were waiting asked - very politely - if she needed any help. We declined, but it made us glad.

Then when the bus came, they stepped up and held the queue back so my friend could board and carried my shopping trolley onto the bus too.

The future is fine. Maybe we are the problem ?

And all the schoolkids I've travelled with always make a point of thanking teh driver.

Thank you for posting this. Too many people slate the young and don't appear to have met any. I spend time with a lot of young people and the vast majority of them are intelligent, kind, polite and helpful. They may be politically naive and idealistic, but that's a hell of a lot better than the 'I'm all right, Jack' attitude that is so prevalent on MN.

Many years ago, was with the same friend (I think I was picking her up from the local leisure centre).

As I was waiting in the foyer, there was a commotion at a pair of swing doors. Three lads - aged about 10 - had all raced each other to help open the door for my friend. When we met up she said they just saw her and as of one mind acted to help.

I repeat, the future will be OK, and we are probably the problem 😁

I want to echo this. When DH and I are out and about, young people are always helpful. They also seem to grasp that it is polite to address the wheelchair user not the person pushing it when asking questions, serving them in a shop etc. Something that passes some older people by.

@SerendipityJane
I can only go on the young people in that age range I know (I'm in education, so a fair few...) and my dcs friends.
They all voted green in the last GE and plan to in the next one.
They have all drunk the twaw koolaid and hate Israel. And yes, I do mean hate.
And we don't live in the SE or a trendy area. I imagine the support in those areas in that age group is even larger?
I hope that Polanski is ousted soon - he is a dangerous buffoon. I liked Caroline Lucas.

Badvocthebad · 04/10/2026 18:46

And as for the implication I'm "slating" the "young".
Please.
I'm giving my lived experience, which is as valid as any.

In some areas its far more than 40% @Chersfrozenface

You appear to be anticipating an attack.

This isn't that kind of thread ....

No.
I've been accused of slating the young.
Which I did not.
Voting data show clearly where support for the greens is growing most.
Ignore it if you want 🤷‍♀️

DuncinToffee · 04/10/2026 18:50

The twaw cool aid, you mean they are more open and accepting?

I think Caroline Lucas was brilliant. No time for Polanski or Ali.

Same here, Caroline Lucas was a brilliant speaker excellent in debates.

Piggywaspushed · 04/10/2026 18:50

Also not the thread for sneering phrases about Koolaid. It's so derisive.

BIossomtoes · 04/10/2026 18:52

I suggest that anyone looking for a fight is in the wrong place. Regular readers of these threads will know they’re a quiet haven of peace.

Piggywaspushed · 04/10/2026 18:54

Many times people on MN say the left push the right away by not listening to them and dismissing their views. Perhaps some people might respect and listen to the views of the young rather than mocking them. See also : France.

I really hope in your role in education you don't tell the young people that they have drunk Koolaid.

There isn't a line. We often disagree with each other on this thread!

Agreeably.

The scariest young people I meet are distinctly to the Right. There is a growing number who think racism and homophobia are OK to vocalise.

No one is ignoring anything. I am not surprised the Greens are popular with the young. The more left wing parties are often appealing to the young. In my day it was the SWP.

Does all this apply to your own DC?

placemats · 04/10/2026 19:14

Oftentimes certain people don't shit in their neighbourhood and go elsewhere to do their dirty work. Is something I've observed in life.

Personal attacks are not welcome here.

DuncinToffee · 04/10/2026 18:50

This. As the parent of a trans DS, I do so like seeing people treat him with the same decency and courtesy they apply to everyone else.

placemats · 04/10/2026 19:16

Oh and those little shits will always quote you. It's a form of personal attack if not done in good faith. Which it never is.

dontcallmelen · 04/10/2026 19:21

The young people I meet when out & about (I use buses a lot) the vast majority are very polite & helpful Yy always thanking the bus driver my oldest dgd is nearly eleven her & her friends are very caring of one another I’m inclined to agree with Jane we are more of the problem only got a look at some of threads on MN so full of vitriol spewing such bile & supporting people who shouldn’t ever be given the time of day what worries me is the prevalence of these views & how even politicians stoke the fires using language that is totally unacceptable despite fellow MPs that have been murdered as for the sainted kemi & the fecking tapestry she should hang her head in shame.
