Ooh if my kids decide to hold a funeral, I want
Just Breathe by Pearl Jam
Wish you were here by Pink Floyd
and Eulogy by Frank Turner

HeinousBeaker · 29/09/2026 18:53

“Do you realize?” By the Flaming Lips, and “Blue Marbled Elm Trees” by King Creosote. Both have perfect lyrics

julesagain · 29/09/2026 18:59

I have verbally told my family that I want to come in to T Rex, love to boogie and out to Bacara, yes sir, I can boogie. I want people to smile whilst desperately trying not to tap their feet or sing. In the service I want anacapella version of Bowie and Mercury, under pressure, because it just sounds so awesome.

DozyCrow · 29/09/2026 19:00

I've told my DC they don't need to organise a big funeral. I'm happy for them to send me direct to crem and have some sort of gathering to celebrate my life afterwards, if they see fit.

If, however, they want a funeral for closure, then I'd like to go in to Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Eva Cassidy. I love the way she sings it.

During the service I'd like My Last Goodbye by Sarah Hession. I came across it very recently and the words moved me.

Champions theme by Carl Davies. With the horse galloping on the skyline in the opening credits of the film playing on a big screen.

Enter to - Moving On by James
Reflection - Let’s Stay Together by Al Green
End with - Love Is In The Air by John Paul Young

Oooh can I come to your funeral please? I’d love that!

I also love TRex’s Cosmic Dancer:

I danced myself into the tomb
I danced myself into the tomb
Is it strange to dance so soon?
I danced myself into the tomb

Hopefully my body is going to a medical school for direction.

I wonder if I can pick some music for the medical students to listen to?

For my dad's funeral I picked, "Make me a chanel of you peace".

One of the last things we (me and dad) did was see 'Come from Away' and it features part of the hymn.

If I was planning again I would specify only 1 or 2 verses, it did go on a bit.

In the sweet by and by, sung by Dolly Parton.

hobbledyhoy · 29/09/2026 19:23

Jupiter from The Planets by Holst and the Proclaimers, After You’re Gone.

Odd mix admittedly but I have eclectic tastes…

Appreciate this may not be in the spirit of the thread - but I wouldn't. I'm definitely going to let my DC do my funeral. I've been to a couple of funerals recently where the dead person pre-chose lots of aspects of their own funeral and I'm not convinced that it is a good idea.

A funeral is the opportunity for the living to grieve the dead. If it is all pre-arranged by the now dead person, then that is not what happens - in my opinion. So, I'm going to let my DC choose whatever they think I would like. If their choices are horrific, I won't know! But I presume it will bring them some kind of relief / satisfaction / pleasure to have chosen them for me.

What a weird post. Should the deceased person not have the right to choose their own funeral?
I would hate my parents putting this on my shoulders.

Disco inferno by the Trammps

To my surprise, one hundred stories high
People getting loose y'all, getting down on the roof
Folks are screaming, out of control
It was so entertaining when the boogie started to explode
I heard somebody say
disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
(Burn baby burn) disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
Satisfaction came in a chain reaction
(Burnin')
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self-destruct
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody going strong, and that is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say
disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down y'all
(Burn baby burn) disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
Up above my head
I hear music in the air
That makes me know
There's a party somewhere
Satisfaction came in a chain reaction
(Burnin')
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self-destruct
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody going strong, and that is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say
disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
(Burn baby burn) disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
burn that mother down
(Burn baby burn) disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
When my spark gets hot
when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
(Just can't stop) when my spark gets hot
disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
(Burn baby burn) disco inferno
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
(Burn baby burn)
(Burn baby burn) burn that mother down
(Burn baby burn) disco inferno

I'm not having a funeral service but if I did I'd have something uplifting and it would definitely be 1980s music.

I might have chosen a Christmas song as a joke but a relative (not on my side of the family) beat me to it and we listened to 'Walking In A Winter Wonderland' one scorching hot day in July. I thought 'no' at that point. ☃️

My mum and dad both had the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana which is haunting and beautiful. However, my mum also had "We Will All Go Together When We Go" by Tom Lehrer ... oh she would have laughed.
