A bit morbid I know, sorry!
have you given this much thought? I know it sometimes pops into my head when I hear a song that moves me.

mine would be Blessings, by Hollow Coves. I think joyful and mellow. i love the lyrics

what’s yours?!

If time is not a consideration I want lots of weeping and wailing, everyone in black, lots of eulogies …

OMGosh I've just had the most amazing idea! Eulogies - I'll write them myself and have various people from my life read them! Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?

(I'll get my coat)

Actually, I think I’d make a good celebrant!

I'll provide the wailing and weeping for a small fee.

As well as Sanvean that I mentioned earlier, I'd really like to have a Cocteau Twins track. But trying to choose the best Cocteau Twins track is like trying to choose your favourite child. Maybe Pur, or Frou Frou Foxes, or Pandora, or For Phoebe Still A Baby, or Cico Buff... I may have to just put in my will "Make sure there's a Cocteau Twins track. Any of them. Roll dice if you have to. They're all gorgeous."

All These Things That I Have Done by The Killers

I have 2 songs I want, Dream a little dream of me, (Mama Cass) and spirit in the sky, (Doctor and the medics version) funnily enough my sister also wants that song too but the Norman Greenbaum version ( she's a bit older than me).

To the people leaving family to choose, I had arguments over what songs to have at my mum's funeral, songs I know my mum loved as opposed to what my sisters thought, and I lost, 🙄 Then I had the hard choice of choosing song for my late husband, who was only 43 and Catholic i was told I was only allowed to choose 1 song (different if he had been left in church overnight) he weirdly had decided he didnt want the song he had chosen a few days before he died as it hadn't the meaning he thought, ( losing my religion) though he loved the song I chose I kind of regret not going with the song my youngest chose. So tough when my husband loved music so much. Hymns were easier to choose for both Mum and husband though.

I'd like Morning has Broken, the Cat Stevens version. Played at my wedding as well.

Yes, this has always been on my very long list too. I would also love Sailing by Rod Stewart, and have mandated a couple of choral pieces: Stars, by Ēriks Ešenvalds, and Lay a Garland, by Robert Pearsall. Negotiable on the first two, the second, not.

I want to be carried in to Welcome to the Black Parade, (instrumental version, played by a string quartet). Then out to Galloping Home, (otherwise known as the theme to Black Beauty).

Oh my word, Black Beauty! Yessss!

My best friend arrived to Black Beauty. (I never knew it was called galloping home).

I’ll See You In My Dreams (Joe Brown sang it as the closing song in the Concert for George). A beautiful little song.

My Dad chose this for his funeral. I'd not heard it before, and I found the lyrics a bit odd for his lockdown funeral, with the only attendees a few elderly people in their 80s and his daughter (me) and one grandson. They seemed to be 'speaking' to a significant other, and my Mum had pre-deceased him by a year and a half.

I'm sorry you had occasion to hear that.

@Rottweilermummy

I'm sorry you had that with your mum's funeral. I anticipated something similar with my mum when my dad passed away in 2021, but I was very fortunate that she largely let me plan the funeral (I was a proper daddies girl and we were very alike) whilst mum dealt with the practicalities - both playing to our strengths really.

Dad had been a Ten Pound Pom so we had Waltzing Matilda for his entrance; What a Wonderful World with a photo montage; and he went out to They Can't Take That Away from Me by Ella Fitzgerald, who was his favourite female jazz artist. The opening lines were just perfect as he always wore a tweed cap (which I still have) and only ever drank tea 😊

The way you wear your hat
The way you sip your tea
The memory of all that
No no they can't take that away from me

I made a playlist for his wake which I still listen too when I'm missing him and it's hugely comforting. Makes you realise how very important music is in our lives.
